#ClimateChange mitigation.

Wrong idea - The tech heads talk of constructing Carbon Capture machines. That would require hundreds of thousands of machines, more mining, more power consumption #fail

Right approach #nature

But, the photo of another deforested landscape. This is not wetland, Tree's used to & would grow here. Sheep keep it looking like this.

Photo taken in #Sheep District National Park, #England (officially called the Lake District National park)

#ClimateAction #ClimatePolicy
The photo shows a stream running through a deforested landscape. The only place where the odd tree grows is where humans or sheep couldn't get to them (e.g., on the vertical rocky crags).

As Tree's grow they capture carbon. To mitigate climate change we need to use solutions, big & small, that don't emit & or sequester atmospheric carbon dioxide

Have you ever noticed the various colors of different oceans? This is under the Juno Pier in South Florida on the Atlantic. Every picture I have taken there, the water is a beautiful blue or as someone suggested it’s more of an aquamarine blue.

Painting of a blue a white coloured stream. On the left the soil is covered with grass in several shades of green. There are some thin trees with brown trunks and little light yellow leaves. On the right is a grey and blue coloured quay, with some green bushes on it. In the background through the trees you see more blue water and the shape of blue mountains. The sky is light blue.

Brief #Introduction, since it seems to be the etiquette around here. Hi! I'm Mel, a PGR at QMUL researching abortion policy implementation in subnational Argentina, through lenses of various geographies, #policy and subnational studies, and literature on #feminist #activism. Red Squirrel.

It was a change for me to watch a few of these in a deciduous woodland. They're so often photographed in pine or fir tree forests.

Made for rather autumnal colours behind the squirrel, as it sat on a stump, eating a nut.

Many can identify with life being challenging. Which brings to mind the 1.5 mile hike to Crabtree Falls in NC. Listed as easy/moderate. Rain the day earlier made the rocks slick & mud on trail difficult. The Fall foliage cradling the cascading waters was pure Zen. To all currently on life's difficult trail, may you find inner peace.

Cradled between the fall foliage of yellows, golds and greens the cascading waters of Crabtree Falls in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a welcome sight after a mile and a half hike.

Relevant to my previous post, here is another article about the tragic ongoing loss of biodiversity.

TITLE -- "Biodiversity: State of Emergency"

Key points:

◘ By 2050, 38-46% of animal and plant species could be wiped out from the planet.

◘ Of particular concern are Central and South America, sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia, which are more vulnerable to soil impoverishment.

◘ Within 30 years, the number of people living in arid regions could rise from 2.7 to 4 billion, increasing the risk of migration crises.

◘ Land degradation and climate change, leading to declining crop yields and social and economic instability, are likely to force 50-700 million people to migrate by the middle of the century.

A new year-long project of photographing a large country park has begun. It's a daunting task as the area is rich in wildlife and flora, and includes several large reservoirs, so in sweltering heat I started small in one of the many meadows. Please click for full views.

Here's some #FungiFriday news:

In Hungary we have an online vote every year for Fungus of the Year.

The 2023 vote just concluded, and it seems like the 2023 Fungus of the Year will be the Gomphus clavatus (a.k.a. pig's ears).
It beat the citron amanita and the pine bolete.

(We also have votes for Mineral of the Year, Bird of the Year, Wildflower, Butterfly, Fish, Insect, etc. I live for these votes.)

Prompt 2: Tree

A Transylvanian Roma folktale says in the old days trees could walk.
A rich man once saw a beautiful old oak, and ordered it to follow him home, to be cut up as firewood. Then he ordered the tree to carry him and his food along the way. Then ordered it to steal the bell from the church tower, just because.
At that point, lightning struck, and God decided trees should not walk and obey people anymore.
