Die Chemnitzer Linux-Tage @Chemnitzer Linux-Tage (CLT) sind eine der größten und bekanntesten Open-Source- und Linux-Veranstaltungen im deutschsprachigen Raum. Sie finden jährlich in Chemnitz statt, normalerweise im Frühjahr, und richten sich an Einsteiger, Fortgeschrittene und Profis aus der Open-Source-Community.

Die CLT bieten Vorträge, Workshops, Stände von Projekten und Unternehmen sowie ein Rahmenprogramm mit Install-Party, LPI-Zertifizierungen und Aktivitäten für Kinder (CLT-Junior). Die Veranstaltung ist bekannt für ihre freundliche Atmosphäre und den intensiven Austausch zwischen Entwicklern, Anwendern und Interessierten.

Über das Fediverse wird auch gesprochen. Zum Beispiel:

friendica installation on the VPS hosting

Up to this point we basically performed a standard LAMP installation on a ubuntu 22.04 LTS VPS hosting.

The following steps concern the actual friendica server installation.

creating the directory for friendica and the user www-data

¡IMPORTANT!
The following command and setting should only be used if you are on a clean brand new ubuntu VPS setup as it will or at least might meddle with your already existing web page setups as @tom s politely pointed out:
"This would damage a lot of (server) installations out there. Do not do this in /var/www, if you are not really sure, what you're doing."

As of now I skipped this step as I do have already a DB with password and name on the original installation I will have to migrate to this new VPS.

Hector Martin rezygnuje z funkcji głównego programisty Asahi Linuxa

Hector Martin, który odpowiadał za dystrybucję Asahi Linux umożliwiającą uruchomienie tego systemu na komputerach z procesorem Apple Silicon, zrezygnował z funkcji głównego programisty 7 lutego 2025 roku.

Spór dotyczył wprowadzenia obsługi interfejsu DMA w jądrze Linuxa przez sterowniki napisane w języku Rust. Christoph Hellwig odrzucił poprawkę, sugerując, że wprowadziłoby to większą złożoność w zarządzaniu projektem jądra, co sfrustrowany Martin uznał jako „próbę sabotażu”.

W jednej z odpowiedzi adresowanych do Martina, który pisał o „zawstydzaniu w mediach społecznościowych”, Linus Torvalds, twórca Linuxa, skrytykował jego podejście:

Może zaakceptuj to, że to Ty sam jesteś problemem. […] Media społecznościowe nigdy nie były rozwiązaniem problemu – a już na pewno, gdy nie osiągnęliśmy konsensusu nad tym, jak ma wyglądać praca nad daną częścią jądra systemu.

Jądro Linuxa od 2022 roku stopniowo wprowadza kod napisany w Ruście, co spotyka się z oporem programistów preferujących język C. Wielu z nich otwarcie sugeruje, że nie zamierzają zmieniać swoich przyzwyczajeń „tylko dlatego, że Rust jest na fali popularności”. Jednak w przeciwieństwie do języka C, Rust znany jest z dużo sprawniejszego i bezpieczniejszego zarządzania pamięcią.

W swoim jednym z ostatnich wpisów Hector Martin napisał, że nie ma sensu angażować się w projekt, skoro „ostateczną decyzję i tak podejmie Linus [Torvalds – przyp. aut.]”, przy oskarżając Hellwiga o naruszenie „Code of Conduct” – tj. regulaminu społeczności kontrybutorów do kodu Linuxa, za jego komentarz przyrównujący „mieszanie kodu pisanego w Ruście i języku C do choroby nowotworowej”.

Ich bin heute auf der Suche nach …

… einem möglichst vollwertigen Ersatz für Garmins Basecamp.

Nachdem ich mittlerweile mit der Einkaufsliste / Bestandsverwaltung #Grocy (https://grocy.info/de) sehr zufrieden bin, ist die letzte #Software, die mich noch an #Windows bindet - #Basecamp (https://www.garmin.com/de-DE/software/basecamp/).

Sollte ich einen passenden Ersatz für #Linux finden, kann ich mich komplett von #Microsoft verabschieden 😀

Die Alternative sollte #GPX Dateien importieren und im Anschluss editieren ‼️ können, sowie möglichst #OpenStreeMap als #Kartenmaterial verwenden. Das Einbinden anderer Karten wie zum Beispiel der #OFM (OpenFietsMap https://www.openfietsmap.nl/) wäre ein nicht zu verachtender Bonuspunkt.

Zurzeit nutze ich die "Organic Maps Betaversion" (https://organicmaps.app/de/) und zum Bearbeiten den "Viking GPS data editor" (https://sourceforge.net/p/viking/wikiallura/Main_Page/).

Das funktioniert (irgendwie) ist aber für den ständigen, oder schnellen Gebrauch nicht die Ideallösung ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ich bin auf der Suche nach ...

... einer #Einkaufsliste wie zum Beispiel #Grocy (https://grocy.info/de), aber als "Lightversion".

Grocy ist wirklich fantastisch, aber für meine Bedürfnisse doch "ein wenig" zu überdimensioniert. Zurzeit nutze ich sehr gerne #SplashShopper auf meinem #Palm #Treo - den muss ich allerdings mit einem #Windows Programm synchronisieren. Davon einmal abgesehen, macht und kann SplashShopper allerdings alles das, was ich von einer digitalen Einkaufsliste erwarte.

Was ich mir wünsche:

Eine #Synchronisation über vielleicht sogar mehrere ( #Android ) Geräte und einer #Linux oder besser #Webversion (selbst gehostet).

• Möglichst #OpenSource und keine proprietäre Software, die meine Daten vielleicht weitergibt oder damit ihre KI trainiert.
• Die Möglichkeit, bereits erstellte Listen zu verwenden; sind es doch meist die gleichen Artikel, aber in unterschiedlicher Stückzahl.
• Die Eingabe von Artikelpreisen und Stückzahlen.
• Ein ganz einfaches Handling - auch Klick, Print und Go wäre schön.

Weil Grocy doch recht umständlich zu bedienen ist, nutze ich zurzeit oft den guten alten Einkaufszettel mit Papier und Bleistift ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi,
I'm working on my first #friendica #VPS installation, here you'll find my initial post about general thoughts like what distro to use, size and costs.
I'm using the tutorial "creating a friendica server - ubuntu" by @Hank G ☑️.

As of now I'm doing well in the process and want to start this post to document differences and questions while installing the server.

This server is going to host an already existing friendica node I have to move from another hosting provider. That means that for example the DB doesn't have to be created from scratch but moved and other smaller details.

I will try to address the different steps of installation in answers to this post and appreciate help, ideas and observations.

I'm doing this from a #linux desktop environment from the console but there shouldn't be differences if you want to do this from a #windows machine.

TROM in numbers

Some TROM numbers!

TROM.tf

Social (friendica): we have 1.100 users and this year it was a record of sane registrations. Still the majority of accounts are likely not active. Our database is around 50GB in size and we store 23GB of files.

Files (nextcloud): we have 100 users and 81 of them are active. We store a total of 370GB of files. We are still able to provide trade-free accounts with 10GB storage space for each.

Chat (matrix): around 500 users, 22GB of files stored and a 200GB database (too big, needs optimization). Unsure how many of these users are active but we are using this for our own TROM chats every single day.

Videos (peertube): 1.400 users, 2.800 videos stored with a total of 400.000 views and 1TB in size. Unfortunately only a few users are active and uploading but this is our main TROM hub for videos and we will do our best to keep it alive and grow it.

In total our TROM.tf provides 17 services and is around 2TB in size. We do daily backups of the system with Timeshift (some 1.2TB) plus daily backups of our files and services to Borg.

TROMjaro : This year we have coded from ground up our own custom made Layout and Theme Switcher apps and made them better. We are still managing a library of over 600 curated trade-free apps and have released a new ISO almost every single month!

TROMnews : This year we did a major upgrade to the website. We made it a lot better, more diverse, and relevant. Every month there are thousands of items that are posted to this website.

VideoNeat : Since 2012 we kept this website relevant and updated. We have over 1.300 documentaries/courses available trade-free!

Trade-Free Directory : We have over 750 entries in the directory, manually added and reviewed. A must have database of wonderful projects that we will use more in the future. We are trying to add more to the directory whenever we have time.

TROMSite : Do not forget that we are still providing 2 huge documentaries, over 30 books, and many videos. All trade-free, all full of relevant information. The hope is that we will start to create new content soon!
