A pet portrait painting of my cat Olivia. Acrylics on 16x20 canvas, finished a few days ago. This is a memorial painting; she passed away in 2018 from complications from bone cancer. I miss her so much every single day. I could not bring myself to do her portrait sooner, and it was a difficult one for me to complete.

Last year I made my first trip to Elkin, North Carolina to explore the area. I ventured into the downtown area and noticed this bridge that was built in 1899 was listed a photo opportunity on their map.

With this still being an active rail line, I carefully framed this shot and gave it a vintage look in post processing.

Usually when I see the Northern Cardinal they are generally at a distance and fly away if I approach.

One day I was visited by this cardinal who flew in very close to me to the point where I didn't even have to zoom in on him because it was that close.

I took this as a visit from a loved one from heaven and reminded me of the following quote "Hope is seeing the light, despite all the darkness"

Many can identify with life being challenging. Which brings to mind the 1.5 mile hike to Crabtree Falls in NC. Listed as easy/moderate. Dead acacia trees at Dead Vlei salt pan amongst the sand dunes in Sossusvlei, southern Namibia. Some 900 years ago the climate dried up and dunes cut off Dead Vlei from the river. It became to dry in DeadVlei for the trees to even decompose. They simply scorched black in the sun, monuments to their own destruction. The trees are now nearly 1000 years old and standing in this hot desert.

I was able to capture this image during the late winter early in the morning so the crowds were low and I was able to set up in the middle of the sidewalk.
The tall Douglass Firs frame the lower falls on both sides. The tops of trees further into the image further frame the falls. Normally I would describe a photograph from the foreground into the background. In this case I will do the opposite. Also I don't normally place the main subject dead center. But in this case the main subject is Lower Yosemite Falls in beautiful Yosemite National Park. The falls are flowing at a reduced flow as it's early spring and early morning. The snow that feeds the creek at elevation melts slower at night and reduces the flow. On both sides of the falls beautiful green Douglass Fir frame the falls and the granite cliffs. In the foreground 2 large Douglass Fir trunks frame the seen.
