#Friendica needs new contributors!

I'm not used to do this, but with the large influx of new users and node admins recently coming from #Twitter, our small team is now behind the curve for handling support requests, bug reports and bring about much-needed features.

The project is built on a #PHP / #MySQL platform, but we also need people to be able to assist others just using the software to give developers some space.

If you're willing and able to help, please follow @Friendica Support and the project on Github: https://github.com/friendica/friendica

Thank you!

Let this be a lesson to tech journalists that no matter how close you get to a tech leader and shill for their companies, there’s no guarantee they won’t turn on you after the slightest criticism. So maybe just hold them to account like you’re supposed to.

Elon's Email to Swisher: Elon Musk apparently thinks Kara Swisher is an "asshole." For the latest episode of the "On" podcast, the tables were turned on Swisher as producer Nayeema Raza put her in the hot seat, asking about her relationship with Musk. "He's not speaking to me," Swisher said. "I'm an 'asshole.' He emailed me this recently."
Swisher said the email came after she tweeted reporting from WaPo about him wanting the US to pay for providing Starlink services to Ukraine. Swisher noted that she agreed Musk should get paid and made that point on Twitter, but apparently that wasn't enough. She said Musk emailed her with the subject: "You're an asshole " Inside the email was a screenshot of her tweets. "In this case, I was supporting him, which is really kind of ironic." Swisher said. Listen to the full pod here.

The thing about Twitter is that it really lacks a lot of the features you'd expect from a true Mastodon replacement.

For example, there's no way to edit your toots (which they, confusingly call "tweets"—let's face it, it's a bit of a silly name that's difficult to take seriously).

"Tweets" can't be covered by a content warning. There's no way to let the poster know you like their tweet without also sharing it, and no bookmark feature.

There's no way to set up your own instance, and you're basically stuck on a single instance of Twitter. That means there's no community moderators you can reach out to to quickly resolve issues. Also, you can't de-federate instances with a lot of problematic content.

It also doesn't Integrate with other fediverse platforms, and I couldn't find the option to turn the ads off.

Really, Twitter has made a good start, but it will need to add a lot of additional features before it gets to the point where it becomes a true Mastodon replacement for most users.

I thought it was important I share this picture of a #squirrel with a #donut in its mouth to the entire #Fediverse because when I posted it to #Twitter, it got one like. And I know #Mastodon will not allow such injustice.
A grey squirrel stands on top of a bush, arms at its side, and a chocolate-glazed donut in its mouth. The donut has a clear human bite mark facing the camera as if it was tasted, then discarded.

In case anyone is wondering how the Twitterverse is doing right now ...

Average #Twitter user: Please follow me, anyone. Anyone?
Average #Fediverse user: Please unfollow me, it would be right-o with me.

Content warning: Twitter; Elon Musk

The hashtag #artistsontwitter (sic) is currently trending on #Twitter. This smells of desperation, while I also recognize that jumping over to the #Fediverse isn't seamless. We're in the in-between period where anything can happen.

Now that many #twitter employees have been dismissed, are there any that started to be active in the Fediverse?

I’m less happy for the #Fediverse to grow than for #Twitter to collapse so quickly under the rule of the wonderboy.

Personally, a bunch of people I wasn’t following in Twitter came and I won’t follow them here either so it’s a blank operation. My posts are receiving marginally more reactions which can be both a boon and a curse. I was satisfied with the previous levels of activity so I erring on the side of cautiousness.

We’re getting more bug report over here at #Friendica 🙈

For all the talk of Mastodon being better about harassment it doesn’t seem like it has any features ppl who deal w/ tons of harassment have been asking Twitter for:
* Mass blocking capabilities
* Ability to block/limit anyone who likes a specific post or follows a specific person
* Ability to see only notifications from mutuals, etc.

Can you even limit ur replies to mutuals only on here? Doesn’t seem like you can?

Hi! I’m a technology columnist at The Washington Post. I was previously a tech reporter at The New York Times and The Atlantic. I love communication technology and online culture news. I share a lot of links and hot takes on internet/tech stuff! 🥰 #technology #media #journalism #journalist #nyt #washingtonpost #nytimes #twitterefugee #Twittermirgration #twitterisdead #twitter

I have a few contacts who cross-post to #Twitter and the #Fediverse, and I currently like their duplicated posts on both sides. Should I stop liking their tweets to encourage them to ditch their Twitter account? 😈

(disclaimer: not serious)

My long-standing pet peeve with #Mastodon is the post character limit which forces people to make threads like on #Twitter. Sure, it's 500 characters which reduces the numbers of posts strung together, but it still results in a worse experience since posts are individually delivered to recipients unlike Twitter where they are presented together.

On my side, Mastodon threads are rarely complete unless the last post of the thread was shared with me, or they were each individually interacted with. It didn't have to be like this!

Seeing how fast #Twitter is unraveling under Musk's very new rule (just a full week today) makes me way more appreciative of the previous leadership by contrast. Good luck to the remaining employees while the social network people didn't believe could disappear is sinking.

In some way the #Fediverse feels like the true #Metaverse of a #Cyberpunk #Dystopia. Or #Utopia?

A #consciousness stream of #hypermedia connected across #relay nodes - available for #all to see.

Are we #screaming into the #darkness? Is there #anybody out there?

#Wetware for hire, #Meatsacks for sale. Be #Whoever #you want to be - #anything to #escape from #Twitter #Hell

Today at my blog: In which in one fell swoop, I finally #delete my accounts at #Facebook, #Twitter, #Instagram, #Flickr, #500px, #Netflix and #Hulu, to instead embrace a #web3 #fediverse future at #Mastodon and @write_as. https://write.as/81zbo41t8vo4v132.md

For #twitter refugees: the _worst_ thing in #mastodon (activitypub): there are **no global messages**. You cannot see global trends, tags, cannot search, can't discover random people easily. The server you pick determines the view you see.

I wonder how the AP userbase will change due to recent events on #twitter ...

I'd like to erase all my tweets and leave the account empty

how could I do that ?

#twitter

Nun will #Musk doch noch #Twitter kaufen.

Gibt es dann wieder eine Welle oder haben wir das schon hinter uns?

Oh no, through “Related” tweets I caught a glimpse of the gender discourse on #Twitter and, folks, I’m sorry to report it still isn’t pretty. 🥵

Yep.

The goal of #Mastodon was, appeal to old ex #Twitter users. Success.

#Pleroma, appeal to nerds. Success.

#Soapbox, appeal to new ex #Twitter users. Success.

Of course all the software is still approaching their goals at varying speeds, but they're honestly largely complete. If you left the software alone for five years it'd all probably be fine.

Cross-posting images Friendica/Twitter

Hi, my #Friendica node (https://mexico-pensante.blog) is working and (very slowly) growing 😀

Cross-posting to #Twitter is still important for me because I have ~500 #followers there.

However, if I send #posts with #images to Friendica and Twitter, the Twitter version does not display the image; just the link. Obviously, that's a problem for getting #attention. As a consequence, I post on #TweetDeck and then channel it to Friendica. But I want to forget about logging into Twitter...

Any hint, on how to embed images in Friendica posts for #crossposting to Twitter?

I can send anything to Twitter, but my own posts...

I sent my first contributions to #Twitter, using the #Friendica addon: a Quote Share of a journal RSS I follow on my Friendica node and a Twiiter #Tweet.

However, I tried in various ways (direct, quote share) to send my own post (inviting people to my Friendica instance 😉, containing a link to http://mexico-pensante.blog). This one never arrived. Is there any filter that prevents advertising the own network, ...?

Thanks @tio and @Steffen K9 🍮! It seems that my connection was successful. At least I can see my account on the social media -> #Twitter settings now. And I receive the messages of the people I am following. However, I sent a 'public' post with 'post to Twitter' selected and still cannot see the post on Twitter ~10 Minutes later. Is there anything missing?

¿How to "activate" the Twitter addon in Friendica?

Hi, I just installed the #Twitter addon on my #Friendica node https://mexico.pensante.blog and registered for a Twitter developer account (which was approved after some discussion..). I added the API key and secret in the #addon configuration.

But now? I cannot see any Twitter button/ menu. How can I configure what to read/post to Twitter?
