Israel’s genocide in Gaza depends on the infrastructure and services of tech companies like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.

On #TechWontSaveUs, I spoke with Mohammad Khatami and Gabi Schubiner of No Tech for Apartheid about how tech workers are pushing back on the companies’ complicity and trying to end their relationships with Israel.

Pre-October, all I ever knew was that Google really doesn't want you to talk about this, and they will silence you at any chance they get. Post-October, it was like not only will the company silence you, but if other workers are literally stalking you or accusing you of terrorism, the company will not do anything about that.

Great news! Amazon has got back to me about the £700 iPhone they failed to deliver (and wouldn't refund or replace) Bad news: what they told me...

Based on this experience, why would anyone buy anything expensive from Amazon ever again? Please share, like and comment if you agree.

Watch my #video.

Deals on Kindles may seem attractive, but don't forget Amazon is one of the most devoted peddlers of DRM. We prefer books we can loan to our friends, free of restriction and prying eyes. Read more about how to live DRM-free: https://u.fsf.org/1aj #EndDRM #DRM #BoycottAmazon #Amazon

Sonofabitch...I'm not seeing ANY news of this posted anywhere, and that should tell you that the billionaires already have absolute control over what propaganda we're exposed to.

#Ecuador votes to #KeepItInTheGround

"In a historic decision, Ecuadorians voted on Sunday against the #OilDrilling of a protected area in the #Amazon that is home to two uncontacted tribes and serves as a biodiversity hotspot.

As a result of the vote, state oil company #Petroecuador will be required to dismantle its operations there."

☣️ Unsurprisingly, #Amazon continues its planet-destroying practices. Reporting today exposes them secretly spending massive amounts of money to fight a new law up for vote next week in #Oregon (US). The new rules would require large data centers and crypto miners to move to clean energy over the next 17 years.

⌛ Never mind we don't even have that long to stop irreversible #climate damage.

:boost_love: Please share widely to expose their evil, and #DitchAmazon.

Oh for fuck's sake. Instead of fixing its lax security that allows pirates to scour the site and steal ebooks, Amazon is automatically eliminating legit copies of author's books with zero warning for violating Kindle Unlimited's strict exclusivity rules when its bots find free pirated copies online. This is stunningly crass and obnoxious, even for Amazon.

Refreshing what a bit of decent values and #HumaneTechnology can do to help a business.

How not to be a #hypercapitalist robber baron like everybody else. Some best-practices by #eCommerce Galaxus:

- Pricing history of products

- Show return rate of products

- Show no. of defects within warranty period

- Show handling duration of warranty cases

- Deliver to closest local branch, avoid online payment

Honesty is the only path. May they blow #Amazon out of the water!

The OP simply said “best”. Best in what? You’ve obviously not used an OLPC. Phone, tablet, & laptop can all be scratched off because you can’t read a backlit LCD at all in sunlight & batteries will die before you finish reading. Kindle can be scratched off b/c it’s proprietary closed-source, brings DRM, & supports one of the most unethical corps in the world: #Amazon.

It’s fascinating to see the recent series of stories about how so few of the tech companies’ future bets actually panned out as planned: drone delivery, autonomous cars, crypto, etc. Alexa is just the latest to add to the pile.

What’s concerning though: Amazon’s “new favorite child” is its health tech business. The last thing we need is more privatization and tech companies distracting us from what matters in healthcare.

If you needed yet another reason not to use #Amazon Marketplace.

So, Amazon thinks my novella paperback content is stolen from my ebook content, and I have been unable to resolve the issue.

They are now telling me they are closing my author account. The whole experience with them has been traumatic.

If you want to read my work, it's available from other vendors, and I plan to go back to hand-selling my smaller stuff. I was happier that way, honestly.

Amazon Marketplace is harmful, episode 362

In the United States #Amazon has a contract with USPS, the national mail carrier. Last mile deliveries are performed by USPS, but not by regular postpersons. This status quirk enables Sunday/holiday deliveries that aren’t done by full-status postpersons.

On the other hand these Amazon-contracted sub-postpersons aren’t trusted with the postal key, a sesame to access mailboxes and package rooms in residential buildings throughout the city of New York.

In my building, this leads to Amazon packages being left in the hall, and apparently there has been enough package theft reports that the management company had to put up signs urging Amazon delivery people not to leave them the hall, but I believe they are paid way too low (as sub-postpersons) to comply with these rules that wouldn’t be needed if people didn’t order on Amazon in the first place.

CQFD.

She had to give away her baby so you can enjoy free shipping on your #Amazon order. Is it worth it? I say no. twitter.com/VICE/status/14…

I don't know how to tell you to stop using #Amazon Marketplace anymore, but thankfully for me Amazon keeps making new reasons.

Last week, I learned from a USPS delivery worker that #Amazon has a deal with USPS where they have their own delivery workers for the last mile. These workers do not have access to secure USPS mailboxes which means Amazon packages are just left in the lobby of my building.

Another good reason to ditch Amazon specifically.

Recruiter cold email: "Have you thought about joining Amazon?"
My reply: "I have thought about joining Amazon and I concluded that it would go about every single moral value I hold so I'll pass, thanks."
