I made a lot of progress with becoming digitally independent and #foss within the past few months: switching from google docs to markup editors for my diaries and creative writing, learning hugo to build websites for my art and comic, downloading more music instead of streaming it, moving from google drive and cloud based apps to syncthing, and getting into mastodon. I wonder what's next..

I was giving a computing ethics lecture about #FOSS and #antifeatures around 2014. Lots of folks there had never even heard of #FDroid. Maybe it's still not well-known?

F-Droid is a repository and platform for FOSS on Android. Their app can manage your other apps, much like you do with the Google Play Store.

When I need an Android app for something, I always check F-Droid first, just because the apps are trustworthy.

Perhaps you can explain a bit Alex?

Last I checked, it was a #SoapBox frontend (pretty fricken' kewl), but no web access (WTF is sup wit dat, bitches?), And so I was unable to create an account.

And although there was an #Apple ๐ŸŽ app, no such #Android beast.

Is that correct? And what kind of goofy logic is that where you can only access the site if you have an #iPhone?

I suppose i would have tried to use #Fedilab, i would suppose, but you need to already have an account to do that.

I know I'm not "missing out" on anything, but What am I missing here?

The free open source livestreaming platform OwnCast has set up a demo server at:

https://watch.owncast.online

It currently runs a loop of videos by people who self-host their livestreams using OwnCast, along with short videos promoting other libre projects.

If you run a free open project and have a short video (under 1 minute), you can have it added to this loop by contacting @owncast.

OwnCast servers include Fediverse compatibility, so you can follow them from Mastodon etc. When a stream you follow goes live, you'll see a message telling you about it in your timeline.

I'm beginning to get frustrated with my self-hosted mail. Somewhere between my android mail app (Samsung Mail), my desktop app (em client), and mail server (hmailserver), in a rare blue moon I'll have an email that gets out of sync and won't load on desktop. My theory is the android mail app is causing IMAP flags to not get set correctly, since #thunderbird has issues too.

I need a good all-in-one #mail solution that is #FOSS with a good admin UI.

Well, I hadn't planned on adding additional features to A Rust Site Engine today but... Two Release Tuesday can be a thing can't it?

https://crates.io/crates/arse 0.6.0 adds accessing individual posts directly. Underneath the feature add was a major refactor of the application's core and the Engine struct itself. While rendering and load times were already very fast, I was previously loading the Tera template for every single request. Now it's done once at startup.

There is currently a campaign that tries to raise money to improve #Anbox (an Android emulator) on #ubuntutouch.

#Volla has already donated a thousand Euros to kick things of and the campaign has raised 1500โ‚ฌ ๐Ÿ’ธ so far.

This is a good start, but they need at least 6000โ‚ฌ to hire a freelancer ๐Ÿ’ป๏ธ.

Use case: starting a new job, taking a uni course, writing a masters thesis, plus personal goals to achieve. Walking around with a massive to do list in my head.

I'm trying out apps to keep track, but they're not integrated. Think mail in one app, calendar in another, Nextcloud + deck, tasks in a notes app. Since it's not integrated, I'm often doing double work or lose track. How do other people do this? ๐Ÿค”
