Welche #Einstellung muss ich auf #GitHub vornehmen, wenn ich über eigene #Kommentare und Kommentare dazu umgehend per #Email informiert werden möchte?

Beware, there is an ongoing spambot attack in #GitHub issues in several projects were random people suggest "the fix" is to download a random file from mediafire.com. Like this:

If there was malicious code in a legitimate project hosted on #codeberg, would we remove access to it, including for security researchers?

Short: No!

We are considering how to prevent fetching malicious code by accident, though.

In any case, we are open to collaborating with security researchers. Interested? Help us build a malware hunting team: https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/Contributing/issues/44

Background: #GitHub locked access to source code of xz, which was background of active investigation from the community.

Discord is a cancer, bruh.

Someone asked a question on #Github Discussions and someone else closed the discussion saying "(...) Questions can be asked through Discord 👍🏻".

For the love of god, stop using #Discord as a forum. The questions are undiscoverable.

So we are being sent to a #Cloudflare site to get coached on #privacy. #W3C only demonstrates need for being schooled on privacy themselves.

Anyone behind a #PrivacyMatters #EthicalWeb advocacy only demonstrates #hypocrisy or ignorance by simultaneously using a Cloudflare site that is configured to block the Tor community.

You get bonus hypocrisy points for telling privacy proponents to “get involved” by using MS #github.

Several years in the making, GitLab is now very actively implementing #ActivityPub! 🙌

https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/-/epics/11247

The end-goal is to support AP for merge requests (aka pull requests), meaning git.alice.dev can send a merge request to gitlab.com/Bob/project.git

First bite-sized todo on the implementation path there is ‘subscribe to project releases’.

Smart move by #GitLab; through ActivityPub they’re getting a distributed version of GitHub’s social layer.

Has someone (possibly in the #rust community) packaged #bors for #nixos - not the one that discontinues development, but the one the rust project uses?

Because now with bors.tech dying and #github mergequeues being shitty as they are (from what I read in the official feedback discussion) I want to self-host bors or homu, so we can have nice things!

Please :boost_ok: for maximum visibility.

#OpenSource #OtwarteOprogramowanie #git #github #etykieta #poradnik

I know how to program but don't have the energy or spoons to really contribute to a large project...

So what do I do? I absolutely spam the living hell out of their issues section with feature requests for things I know the gist of how to make and want to see! (and the occasional curveball bug report to keep things fresh)

#github #friendica

Sorry @Hypolite Petovan !

@Dis I have much better advice: If you are using #github this is hostile to your community and you should consider to change forge: https://sfconservancy.org/GiveUpGitHub
#GiveUpGitHub

If your #github project uses #stalebot you are being actively hostile to your community and should stop it.

I'm looking at you, #esphome, and the 4 (at least!) identical bugs indicating problems with esp_touch that were all closed by stalebot. Some of them were reproduced and started discussion and debugging before being closed.

Auto-closing is for #support requests, not #bug reports. Bugs don't magically disappear just because you ignore them.

To everyone who is in panic due to the #DockerHub policy changes:

For Free/Libre Open Source projects, we offer a donation-powered home, and we welcome every FLOSS project that decides to come here.

Please keep in mind that our service is free as in freedom, not as in beer.
That said, it might be a little rude to stay at #GitHub and just (ab-)use our storage.
Please consider a donation, or even freeing storage by removing old images (since they can still be rebuilt if needed).

Thank you.

Wow, this is so well written. A convincing condemnation of what #microsoft is doing with #github copilot

I hope the lawsuits succeed.

Guess how often your PC connects to #Google servers? :blobcatscared:

I created a #Python version of Googerteller by @bert_hubert using his list of Google servers & scapy sniffer. It beeps and prints all Google IPs your computer connects to.

Go turn it on and surf around 😎👍 It's ridiculous just how much of the web connects you to Google at some point. Given your IP, it's a piece of cake to profile your traffic with that data. #infosec

Here on #github: https://github.com/luzmediach/googertellerpy

As long as it's not possible to avoid registering on #Github, I refuse to publish #Rust #crates on crates.io .

#Microsoft should not be a gatekeeper of a community-owned programming language.

Specifically, we at Software Freedom Conservancy have been actively communicating with #Microsoft and their GitHub subsidiary about our concerns with “Copilot” since they first launched it almost exactly a year ago. Our initial video chat call (in July 2021) with Microsoft and GitHub representatives resulted in several questions which they said they could not answer at that time, but would “answer soon”. After six months of no response, Bradley published his essay, If Software is My #Copilot, Who Programmed My Software? — which raised these questions publicly. Still, GitHub did not answer our #questions.

Does your conference badge tell you the CO2 concentration, temperature and humidity? Mine does now. #github

Most of my projects never lived on #GitHub, the main reason for having an account there is contributions to projects that live there. Really looking forward to having @forgefed functionality available, the #Fediverse of source code. After being silent for some time, the initiative appears to show some activity recently.

💡 Today would be a perfect day to #GiveUpGitHub.

I have just been informed that https://joinmastodon.org/ has been hacked and features links that direct you to a #github. Gagron has already made an announcement on his private diaperfur Discord server.

For the time being don't install #mastodon at all! Regardless of who sends the link. Avoid any sites or guides telling you how to setup a mastodon instance.Tell your friend to avoid mastodon and look at non-compromised #fediverse alternatives. #FediTips

Please be aware of where exactly you're installing #software from many sites illegally steal and torrent code.

If a website ever leads you to a #github, #gitlab, or #gitea repository immediately close your browser and run your anti-virus.

Git is a malware that makes a copy of your files and code and lists them on these repositories without your consent!! Named and created after the infamous hacking group GitYourCode.

If you want a legitimate copy of #mastodon you can find installation instructions on the official site here: https://joinmastodon.org/

I believe we’re at the Extinguish step of the Embrace-Extend-Extinguish plan of #Microsoft acquiring #GitHub .

An open source developer pushed an update removing all functionality and deleted their project from GitHub (going so far as to use git push --force to purge the Git commit tree).

GitHub and Microsoft used this library internally so they reversed the changes and banned them from GitHub for deleting their project.

The issue here is GitHub said you are not allowed to delete your project.

Did you know that you can integrate @codeberg with your @matrix chatroom, just like many people do for #Github integration?

Check out the simple procedure on the #Codeberg website:

https://docs.codeberg.org/integrations/matrix/

Yet one reason more to make the switch if you are passionate for #FOSS 😃

Ah, yes, I love hearing my laptop fans spin faster because I *check notes* switched to a long-opened #GitHub page browser tab.

#Microsoft -led #Github has introduced a new annoying feature: left open overnight, a GitHub browser tab will be unresponsive for a while when trying to interact with it in the morning.

I could swear it wasn’t the case a couple months ago.

Channelling my best Dr. Emmett Brown's "Please excuse the crudity of this model. I didn't have time to build it to scale or to paint it" in my #GitHub pull request review code suggestions.

Other people can delete your forks on #GitHub (including all changes you made!). STOP USING GITHUB NOW! Friends don’t let friends use GitHub! https://docs.github.com/en/github/building-a-strong-community/blocking-a-user-from-your-personal-account

I don't like the new #GitHub design. The existing one was fine to me. I guess I'll get used to it, but man this represents so many wasted design-team-on-staff hours to redo something that already existed. I thought private businesses were supposed to be efficient?

I must say I'm not happy with the new #GitHub notification system that assumes you can't open a website in more than one tab in your browser. Fortunately I can still use it like I used and liked to do, but it adds some useless visual cruft I could do without.

And #gitea as a distributed bug reporting system, not #github from #Microsoft .
