Mastodon.social alt text analysis report! ๐Ÿง

Me and my friend Cristal just published a report on image description usage on mastodon.social, as a group project for the Introduction to Data Science course of the Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Societies Erasmus Mundus Joint Master program.

Thoughts and feedback are welcome ๐Ÿ’•

A huge thanks to @stefan for publishing the dataset on which we based our analysis!

NOTE: We are absolutely aware that the report has very little actual relevance, as the dataset contains a super limited amount of posts from one instance only. It was mainly an experimentation to test our data analysis skills.

Anyway, tl;dr (and pardon the digression?):

#Pinetta's not dead! As the pet shop owner said, "it's just resting".

Personally I'd love to hear from like-minded people who think they could either contribute or make connections with experienced people on this. People who can work with #Python and #Django for the prototype, people who know #CommunityBuilding and #TrustAndSafety. And, in the end, if it's meant to happen, it will happen, and we can stop making jokes about it being vaporware.

I keep coming back to how similar #R is to Perl, and I didn't really realize how similar until I saw how much #tidy reads like #Python. How many of you out there still use #Perl regularly? I've been thinking about relearning it.

I never did an #introduction and I keep hitting the character limit on my profile blurb, so:

I'm Michele Ann Jenkins aka Maj.
I was federated before it was cool and have just been biding my time on FB and Reddit until a critical mass happened somewhere better and now here we are!

I am equally interested in anachronisms, futurism, and current events. In all timelines, looking to listen & learn from a diversity of voice and lived experiences.

Ever evolving tag cloud because I keep being reminded of other interests:

First time I read about open-source "star" jacking on Github and the much more nefarious usage of open-source python packages to install malwares.

Last week we've started testing a rework of a Python+ffmpeg duo service to a pure Rust implementation.
The service is a custom logic around video processing.
The Rust code is built around gstreamer-rs bindings.
ffmpeg doing less then the custom Rust implementation consumes 1.5GB RAM and 1.15 CPU.
Our new Rust implementation consumes 133MB RAM and 0.18 CPU.
I'd say this is a huge win. I'm really glad that the effort payed back.

I love #Mermaid graphs but I would love them even more if they could be generated without #JavaScript. Can't find any library (#Python, preferably) that could do this.

Anyone knows of one?

Hello friends,

Do you know of a tech coop that is accepting new members? Does your community require some IT work to be done (programming, running servers, and similar)? Does your small company want to contract or hire an extremely experienced IT person? I need to work on a part time basis, and I have over 20 years of experience. I am the only member of our four person household that can currently support us. Please help.

So I've updated my site and now I have my resume there (moving it off Glitch) at https://jacky.wtf/about#work. I'm looking for #RemoteWork mainly in application software development. Languages I'm comfortable with are #Python, #Rust and #Elixir. I know #Ruby as well but I'm definitely rusty (heh).

Feel free to boost for visibility.

TIL that apt-installed Python packages are located in a different part of the file system than the pip-installed packages. This explained why the pip-installed certbot-plugin-gandi didn't work with apt-installed certbot.

Uploading photo using API?

!Friendica Support, I can't figure out how to upload photos to #Friendica using API, I keep getting "Error 400, no media data submitted". Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Attempt in #Python:
r = requests.get(someurl)
encr = base64.b64encode(r.content)
payload = {'media':encr, 'album':'Mobile'}
r = requests.post('https://friends.deko.cloud/api/friendica/photo/create.xml', data=payload, auth=HTTPBasicAuth('user', 'password'))

Attempt in #Bash:
$ base64 /tmp/img.jpg > /tmp/img64.jpg
$ a=$(cat /tmp/img64.jpg)
$ curl -u user:password --data "album=Mobile" --data "media=$a" https://friends.deko.cloud/api/friendica/photo/create.xml

In both cases I get "400, no media submitted" response.
