Now we have a wiki for #Fedilab!

We are slowly migrating the existing (and not-so-complete) documentation to the new wiki 😀

If you would like to help by adding/maintaining a wiki page for a feature you like, DM us and we can create a wiki account for you 😀

Here's one of the pages we moved so far:
https://wiki.fedilab.app/wiki/User_Interface

Next month, #Fedilab will be 8 years old. That's somewhat amazing to write that.

The app growed with your help. Most in-app features that we have implemented thanks to your suggestions became available through the Mastodon API.

- Bookmarks, translations, scheduled messages, timed-mute, home muted for lists, etc.

So simply a big thank you for your support and make the app as it is🙏

When visiting a user profile, you will see only messages that are known by your instance.
This can be frustrating especially for small instances.
#Fedilab offers an option at the bottom right, through a magnifying glass button (see the screenshot). By clicking on it, you will be able to see all messages. The app will manage everything for you in background to interact with that messages.

You can of course set that behavior as the default one in Settings > Interface.

Screenshot of our profile with an arrow pointing to a magnifying glass icon button at the bottom right of the header profile.
Screenshot of the settings from the Interface tab.
The option "Remote profiles" is showed and the switch button is turned off.

Surely a remember for long time users, but maybe unknown by other #Fedilab users.
Think to long press buttons. It often hides something.
If you use several accounts, just long press buttons under a message, it will allow you to finish the action with another account without switching. Everything is done for you on the background (boost, fav, , bookmark, reply,...)

@Hypolite Petovan Fair enough, makes sense.
I've been using the #Fedilab app on Android to reply and change the permissions on the reply, but I've just realized I haven't really tested how the posts are actually permissioned in Friendica.

We introduced pronouns support in #Fedilab recently thanks to a suggestion (https://codeberg.org/tom79/Fedilab/issues/1028)

@megalodon is the first app that worked on it.

We extended that beautiful idea to some views where we thought it could be useful (when replying or when searching for mentions).

We will do our best to contribute with other apps for a kind of normalisation of this feature (especially for the localisation around the English word "pronouns").

Did you know that you can change the default layout of messages in timelines with #Fedilab?

- For more compact messages: Settings>Theming> disable "Elevated cards"

- You can remove the left margin in Settings>Interface

- You can aggregate action icons on the left side. (Same settings: "Compact action buttons")

- You can also display counters, hide/show bookmark and translate buttons at the bottom.

- You can even request a Pixelfed view for messages having media.

Just a reminder that #Fedilab supports #Peertube software for viewers and publishers.

Also, Fedilab allows you to discover Peertube with your Mastodon account. It means you don't need a Peertube account to navigate and interact with Peertube instances.

Fedilab has a dedicated UI for this feature. If you want to know more about it, just click on Peertube in the main menu. You will have a helper to find instances that match your expectations. You will be able to switch between them easily.

Screenshot of the instances picker. They can be filtered by categories and languages. Screenshot of a video where it's possible to interact with a Mastodon account.
It's possible to write a comment, reblog, add to favorites or bookmark the video.

Wo muss in welche htacessdatei was rein, damit Friendica funktioniert?

Review time again! Here's a concise look at the third party app Fedilab:

You can use it with Mastodon accounts (including forks like Glitch), PeerTube accounts, Pixelfed accounts and many other types of Fediverse account.

It's got a really nice array of options if you dig down into the settings menus, it does a lot of things that the official apps don't do. I've tried to summarise the good stuff in the review.

#FediTips #Fediverse #Fedilab #Apps #Mastodon #PeerTube

In #Tusky #Fedilab u.a.

Do you have any app suggestion to use with #Friendica? I'm using #Fedilab but I'm not enjoying the experience. So far, the Web browser seems to be the best way to use Friendica... Any thoughts?

Did you know that #Fedilab allows you to discover #Peertube with a dedicated layout to that software?
For that, just open the main menu and select "Peertube".
You will be able to select an instance with helpers.
Even if you don't have an account, you will be able to interact with your Mastodon account.
And if you like Peertube, you can register with the app thanks to an instance picker.
#FedilabTips
Screenshot of the main menu. The Peertube entry under "My App" is highlighted. Screenshot when opening a video. There are many ways to interact like sharing, adding to fav or comment.

A Mastodon account is connected but we can watch videos and interact. You can also change the resolution, playback speed, etc.

@schmaker

I can't remember how my own installation went, but I knew that I needed to install Ntfy, so I think somewhere in there, there was a message to install.

#Fedilab

Hello @Friendica Support
I'm writing to you from #Colombia, #SouthAmerica. My account is hosted on a server in #Argentina. I'd like to know how, either from #Fedilab on #Android or from a browser on #Windows10, I could follow several tags simultaneously, without having to add them one by one.
I'd also like to know how to use #Friendica as my "main network", so that when I post on #Friendica, the post is also done automatically on #Mastodon and #Diaspora*.
Thank you very much.

@schmaker
Have to check #Fedilab for this. #Tusky is polling every fifteen minutes.

@schmaker

I don't use push notifications.

Have installed #Tusky, #Fedilab, ...

Afaik this just effects, how fast you will get notifications about... notifications... 😉 ... so e.g. someone mentioned you.

Mostly using #Mastodon (and #Mammuthus), i have to admit, but also installed a #Friendica instance once... 😉

@Ian Molton Thank you for documenting this all. Sorry, that I cannot help you a bit here. For the last error, can you provide some log file? Maybe #Fedilab tries to access some URLs Friendica is not supporting.

Thanks to the makers of #Fedilab for your continued work towards #accessibility on #Android.

The latest version of the app has an setting to require alternate text before making a post. A great reminder for users sharing images on Mastodon, Pixelfed, or Friendica servers.

I hope all Fedilab users turn the setting on, so everyone can benefit from your pictures!

#AndroidA11y #A11y #AltText #Blind #LowVision @apps
Screenshot of a settings screen. There is an option set to true that says: "Mandatory media descriptions: The message will not be sent if a description is missing with a media."
Screenshot of a picture being uploaded with a toot. There is a warning sign next to the word Description. There is also a popup warning that reads "There are missing media descriptions."

The picture being uploaded is a drawing of Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion from the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Just a small reminder concerning URLs. You can long press links that will open a menu with some options. #Fedilab #FedilabTips
Long press on a link displays a pop-up menu. You can display full link, share it, open with another app, copy it and even check if it redirects.
We checked if the link redirects and the app displayed the redirect URL.

@hankg
Depends. Public timelines could be accessed without authentication.

#Fedilab supports this for example.

A great work from #Friendica devs that we will quickly add to #Fedilab.

- Quoting support with the API
- Display the context of replies in timelines.

There are also fixes for DMs and Block.

This seems to be an app on iOS(?). On Android this is working in #FediLab for long already.
So: This is something a client can/should do, not a server software (like Friendica) imho.

With #Fedilab 3.14.0, if you have a #Pixelfed account, you can now force the Pixelfed view in Settings > Timelines.
This setting is per account.
Screenshot of Settings for Timelines. The pixelfed presentation has been turned on.

We pinned the tag #Fediverse and with a long press, we added in "Any of these" #Fedilab, #Mastodon and #Pixelfed.
Now the pinned timeline will display all messages having these tags.
You can also exclude tags. #FedilabTips
Screenshot of Fedilab where a pinned tag has been long pressed. A menu allows to add "Any of these". We added fedilab, Pixelfed and Mastodon.

Hello !Friendica Support
when I click a #Fediverse post link in #Firefox it opens in @Fedilab Apps, but it only works to load the post if a Mastodon account is selected and not if a Friendica account is active.

How can we trouble shoot this? @Fedilab Apps what does #Fedilab do with such a link, which API call does it perform to retrieve the post?

To #GlitchSocial, #Akkoma, #Pleroma users.

Where can we find common API endpoints and specific API documentation?

We would like to support some custom features with #Fedilab

We created that thread. Your help is welcome. Thank you.

https://codeberg.org/tom79/Fedilab/issues/702

!Friendica Support How does permission handling in Friendica work while responding to Mastodon comments via some Mastodon app? Personal experience: Wanted to send a private response, chose "direct message" in #fedilab, sent - to figure out the response seemed publicly visible in a private browser tab without being logged into Friendica? Am I too stupid or is this a side-effect of the known issues in changing visibility in threads? It feels pretty ... dangerous matter how. 😶

Small update for #Fedilab (3.13.1) in prod.

Added:
- DeepL translation support free/pro keys (Settings > Timelines)

Changed:
- Hide buttons for media when editing

Fixed:
- GIF loaded as static images
- Suggested accounts cannot be followed

@PhenomX6I loathe being compelled to visit a third party site when I'm doing #Fediverse stuffs, but when it comes to audio and videos, #Soapbox is one of the most capable of all Fediverse server platforms.

I can post a link to a podcast or song on a #FunkWhale server for example, and play it right here without ever having to leave my Gleasonator account - it handled such media better than pretty much any other platform, and even those that do accommodate in site viewing, Soapbox is much much prettier.

When it comes to YouTube, however, a trick i picked up in #Matrix, that also works in Soapbox, is to simply run it through a sanitizer like #Invidious.

Then i can play the video inside Soapbox.

This is handled automagically with #Fedilab if you're posting to a Soapbox Pub server.

For scheduling your messages you can use our webapp #FediPlan

https://plan.fedilab.app/

Nothing is stored (no database involved), it only interacts with your Mastodon instance.

Supported features :
- webapp available for all OS
- polls
- media can be edited
- autocomplete (tags, mentions, emojis)
- Custom emojis of your instance available in emoji picker.
- check your scheduled messages (edit / delete).

With an easy way for authentication. #Fedilab
"For the authentication, just follow steps to get the authorisation code that you copy/paste. No need to create one through your instance. " "Emoji picker will also embedded custom emojis from your instance. "
"You can compose your message. Also autocomplete features is supported. " "You can edit your media before posting them. "

Don't forget that if you are running several accounts with #Fedilab, just long press buttons such boost, fav, bookmark, reply, etc. It will allow you to pickup another account to finish the action without changing.

So, you will never lose what you are currently doing. The app will do everything in background for you even if the message is not known by the instance of the selected account.

Time saver, isn't it?

#FedilabTips

#Fedilab 3.11.2 has been published in prod.

If you have issues when using the mute accounts from home, you will have to unmute some accounts.
We will improve that feature in coming days.

This release fixes a crash in timelines for some users.
