This is a very good educational channel, and yet is buried by the YBTs algorithms. Almost 150.000 subscribers yet less than 1.000 views per video. A perfect example of what these platforms are. Ad platforms who care about serving ads, making money. Trade. Attention and data trade.

I (Tio) gave up on this stupid game of using these platforms to "reach" people. I did so years ago. Yes we barely get any eyeballs now, but the ones we get are probably quality ones.

I would rather fail to reach people on the Fediverse than on Youtube and Facebook. Even worse, on Tiktok.

Yes pretty much no one gives a shit when you tell them to move from Youtube, Facebook, Tiktok, Instagram, to Peertube, Friendica, Pixelfed, and so forth. They say no one is there. They prefer to be the online slaves of a few big companies.

Shallow values, little courage, a state of sleepiness. Unfortunately this society has transformed people into total zombies. Easy to control.

That being said, TROM will not only continue on these trade-free platforms like Peertube and Friendica, but will create new content. And if no one watches, fine. At least I will keep my sanity.

The network is named "Fediverse", not "Mastodon".

If you call the network "Mastodon", you discriminate against all Mastodon users. You discriminate against the users of Pleroma, Akkoma, Misskey, Calckey, Firefish, Iceshrimp-JS, Iceshrimp.NET, CherryPick, Sharkey, Catodon, Meisskey, Tanukey, Neko, Mitra, GoToSocial, snac, Socialhome, Friendica, Hubzilla, (streams), Forte, Pixelfed, Vernissage, Lemmy, /kbin, Mbin, PieFed, Ghost, Flipboard, WordPress, WriteFreely, Plume, Funkwhale, Bandwagon, Castopod, PeerTube, Loops, Owncast, Mobilizon, Gancio, BookWyrm, Flohmarkt and many other Fediverse server applications. Because you exclude them from the Fediverse. You exclude everyone from the Fediverse who isn't on Mastodon. And that's more than 30% of all active Fediverse users.

The server software that you probably use is named "Mastodon", not "Fediverse".

If you refer to Mastodon as "the Fediverse", you claim that the whole Fediverse is as limited as Mastodon. Which it isn't. The cool features that you want "the Fediverse" to have, the dreadful features that you want the Fediverse to never have, the Fediverse most likely already has them right now.

Mastodon doesn't. But the Fediverse does. Not the whole Fediverse, but the Fediverse.

I'm not on Mastodon. This is not a Mastodon toot. I'm on Hubzilla (https://hubzilla.org, https://joinfediverse.wiki/Hubzilla). Hubzilla is almost four years older than Mastodon, and as you can see, it's (optionally) federated with Mastodon, otherwise you couldn't see this. And it has features that you may want, it has features that you may fear, and it has features that you probably couldn't even imagine.

At the same time, however, Hubzilla does not have Mastodon's culture. It has its own, older culture that is tailor-made for Hubzilla and its features. And it won't give up its culture in favour of Mastodon's culture.

Am 05.07. (Samstag) gibt es in der c-base eine Veranstaltung für Fediverse-Einsteiger:innen und -Anfänger:innen. Wir nennen es

und genau die wollen wir aufzeigen. So einfach verständlich wie nie 😀.
Das ganze Gerede mit "Ach, [abwink] diese Instanzen, diese Opensource Apps, diese Anmeldungen, ach nee, nich meins" - wir Expert:innen widerlegen das fachfraulich:männlich — denn es geht eben doch einfach. Staight in your Grandma's face! (wobei die Omas, die ich kenne, besser mit solcher Technik klar kommen, als die Opas; lasst Euch auch hier von Klichés nicht einlullen!)

Gibt zudem Hands on Workshops und hast Du nicht gesehen.

Ich hab auch eine kleine Flyer-Grafik dafür gestaltet (komplett AI-frei mit Gimp und Blender!) . Vielleicht könnt Ihr die dahin weiterreichen, wo ich nicht hinkomme:

Ich bin weder bei Facebook noch bei Insta oder sonstwo — damit schieße ich mir an der Stelle ins Knie, denn Ihr seid ja schon hier — aber eigentlich gehört der Flyer eben genau nach Insta und Co. Danke!

Und ja, ich "lege auf" später da. Allerdings mit Kassetten (also lege ich ein!) die ich gerade im Moment bespiele nach meinem ureigenen System, was ich irgendwie selbst nicht ganz verstehe. Chaos wird regieren. Mit ausschließlich freier Musik (Creative Commons + Demoszene). Oh yes, der freie Netzfaktor liegt immens hoch!

Bitte sagt es weiter und schickt uns Leute auf den Hals → im Ernst, wir freuen uns.

I'm really proud to share with you a video I made: "Introducing the Fediverse: a New Era of Social Media" https://news.elenarossini.com/fediverse-video/

In this 4-minute video I explain what the #fediverse is to people not familiar with it, mentioning some of its great features and benefits (interoperability, no ads, no surveillance...) and I set it in contrast to the world of Big Tech social platforms. I argue that, with the rise of Big Tech oligarchs and the current political climate, there has never been a better time to join the fediverse.

I hope you will enjoy this video and that you will find it useful (maybe as a tool to introduce your friends, family, colleagues, school administrators, local government officials to it).

The fediverse has truly changed my life, making me a better, more empowered digital citizen. I am endlessly grateful for it, so this is my contribution to the cause ❤️

I am also incredibly thankful for the work of @samaaberg and @patel.riyen who helped me bring my vision to life with their amazing cinematography skills and their assistance throughout the process, providing brilliant feedback to the script / edits from the POV of fedi newbies.

Linux communities beware of #PewDiePie fans

Regardless of PewDiePie’s personal #politics (which clearly, at the very least are problematic), it is fairly well known by anyone who has been following him for any number of years that the vast majority of his fan base are enthusiastic fascists.

Now #PewDiePie , who’s content centers around PC gaming and Windows, has decided to switch to #Linux and published a video encouraging his followers to do the same. This means a very large number of his #fascist fan base is going to be switching to Linux.

Now many Linux communities are going to be forced to more explicitly choose their politics. Like the parable of the Nazi bar, if the community remains politically neutral, it will become fascist in short order.

A few things to be wary of:

• People asking you not to be “too political” or to “focus on the technology, not the politics” is a classic and highly effective fascist ruse to get moderators to lighten up on fascist elements posting in their community.
• People complaining about free speech rights. The #Internet and the #Fediverse is already a domain where people can speak freely about their politics by running their own server and building their own community with few to no government constraints. You don’t need to compromise on whether fascists have the right to free speech in your community.
• Arguments over your code of conduct (CC) and “safe spaces.” Keep them up-to-date. Research other people’s CCs, learn about the history of why these CCs came to be, learn about what the function of each clause of the code is included and phrased the way it is. These were usually designed to make explicit the fact that a community wants to be a safe space where underprivileged people can feel comfortable expressing themselves, and it is very easy to make people afraid to express themselves. Fascists understand these CCs and the concept of “safe spaces” were explicitly designed to exclude them, and often attack these ideas.

Die CLT bieten Vorträge, Workshops, Stände von Projekten und Unternehmen sowie ein Rahmenprogramm mit Install-Party, LPI-Zertifizierungen und Aktivitäten für Kinder (CLT-Junior). Die Veranstaltung ist bekannt für ihre freundliche Atmosphäre und den intensiven Austausch zwischen Entwicklern, Anwendern und Interessierten.
