Fediverse, I need your help!

A friend of mine is looking at ditching their Facebook page. I want to suggest them 3 Fediverse instances they would enjoy but I have no idea how to go about it myself since I never had to go through this process myself. They like TTRPG, Transformers, social justice and live in Philadelphia and I'm taking suggestions.

A lot of the TTRPG folks I chat with hang out on https://dice.camp and it seems to be well moderated. ALSO not exactly matching those keywords; I feel like they might dig the vibe of https://tenforward.social

Help me out here. I've never really grasped the concept of certain instances being "for" particular topics or interests. Isn't the point of the fediverse that everyone can talk to everyone regardless of which node they live on (deliberate blocking notwithstanding)?

@Brian Ó Several Fediverse platforms have this concept of the "Local timeline" where you can browse through posts published by users on the same instance. Depending on the server you signed up on, this timeline could feel very, very different in tone and interests.
