Creating several friendica instances and other websites as sub/domains on one VPS with one IP

Filtered word: nsfw

Hi @Friendica Support

Not sure if the following has been part of information and discussion around here.
Apparently there are several Nostr relays that bridge, with or without asking for permission, profiles to somewhere else.

In this link there is a csv file with known servers that can be importet into the server blocking list:

To begin with I wonder what happens if our sites and profiles display CC-BY-SA-NC as #copyright notice. Any use by #AI scrapers should become illegal and indemnisation inforcable.
Also if you search for #robotsTXT in google, this is what you get.

A screen shot from today of a google search for robots.txt.
The informational text for standard questions by google itself reads:
"Is it illegal to scrape a site if there is no robots.txt present?
Ignoring robots. txt instructions can result in your scraping activities being considered unethical or even illegal.3 nov 2023"

#meanWhile ..

.. the #mastodon community wastes it's time trying to pimp up the stars of it's #APP in #googlePlay, the #robotsTxt of it's instances disallows exactly one #AI bot scrapper to not search for all public data available about the #fediVerse. Not only on it's mother ship but on all instances, so the elonGated can create his target lists of "the enemy inside".

.. good job, well done! ..

"We want to bring organisations and content creators into the Fediverse, step by step."

Our Foundation co-founder has just published an interesting piece on how we're working to help organisations and content creators find their way to the Fediverse!

question for #MastoAdmin #FediAdmin — how IS the money side of things going for y’all? are you paying for it all out of pocket or are your users helping out? is this a hobby (that you invest in) or a side job (that provides some extra pocket money) for you? what are the numbers looking like?

because i see so many articles claiming that it’s impossible to run a social media service and not charge your users or bombard them with ads, but i see preciously few instance admins actually ask for help with costs other than hiding a donation link somewhere you can find it if you go looking. so what’s the truth?

oh, here's some JUICY rumored details about meta's plans for the fediverse

tl;dr "Meta will only federate with select larger instances from the beginning. There will be contracts which also provide for financial compensation for the instance owners."

can't entirely verify their validity but it's still worth posting just in case

You make some strong arguments here. It's great to see you laying out your reasoning in detail and with passion. theart: That's the spirit. What | have learned, however, is that Meta will only federate with select larger instances from the beginning. There will be contracts which also provide for financial compensation for the instance owners. Meta positions itself as a “savior’, because especially the big instances have a very strong financial pressure. Users take it for granted that someone else is paying for everything. In these contracts, Meta also specifies the rules regarding the moderation. Instances will have the option of allowing ads from Meta or not (with the benefit of additional compensation). Smaller instances will have the possibility to register for a federation with Meta in a second step, but there will be no financial compensation and Meta decides if they will grant access based on their reputation.
Regarding Meta, I'm in the industry for 25 years and have a few friends who worked at Meta from the early years until recently. One s stil there. Regarding UFol, | was part of the disussion at the time, we held a vote at Emacs.ch P R S But don' take this at face value, obvisouly these admins have to sign harsh NDAS. But it sounded very credible and | could not imagine it going any ther way. Examples of big instances (from Japan | believe?) show that the long-term burdens are simply unbearable and operators just wait for the right moment to e 1donot critizise Meta for their attempt to use the favor of the hour to their ‘advantage. As a public corporation its theijob to make proft. As I said, its not them who will decide the fate of the Fediverse. ‘Overworked/stressed out admins, high costs for infrastructure, ongoing disputes ‘and moderation challenges are what threaten the Fediverse. It was not meant to ‘9row o fast before we find common solutions for these issues. What do you think?

Can anyone direct me to a comprehensive explanation of how/what posts show up on a an instance's federated timeline?

Particularly, I'm referring to an #Akkoma instance, but I wonder if the mechanism is similar for all #ActivityPub servers.

Looking at the-federation.info, even with all the *insane* growth (from ~600k monthly active users, to >3mln today, in 3 weeks), the accounts-per-server stat actually *went down*.

Because the number of known instances went up from ~10k to 15k.

This is fantastic. Thank you to all #FediAdmin folk who took upon themselves to create and nurture new communities on fedi. :blobcatmegumin:
