I want to run my own #fediverse instance.
Like the #Mastodon interface.
But I understand running Mastodon requires more computer resources than #Pleroma.
I recall seeing development of frontends for using under any of the fedi's.
But I cant find it. Any suggestions/ advice?

It’s genuinely sad that I can’t tag you, @freemo, @stux, and @p in a thread without it divulging into chaos and screaming

Especially since y’all are all the most prominent of #Fediverse admins anyways

@Hypolite Petovan

I guess that's it basically.

Can you have a look at the link above?
It's supposed to be geoblocked so not sure how it looks from over there.

The tri-lingual inversion show case site is finished so far.

I host my own decentralized social media #Friendica node and I use a custom domain for email but I would never run my own mail server.

With regards to your initial question, mastodon.social is more a convenience than anything else. All their users are united by the common fact they didn’t have to look for another Mastodon instance to register an account on the #Fediverse. I don’t mean this negatively, convenience is a valuable quality.

promotion and crowdsourcing campaign

@Friendica Support

offtopic,
but no idea where else to post this.

Hi there!
I'm think about kinda a campaign to promote the categories mentioned in this post and a possibility to do some crowdsourcing/crowdfunding.

On the monetary part I'm not interested at all to take part in it.
Not in the administration nor the decisions about the distribution.
In other words I wont take part in those aspects.
(most likely I will try to take part in the discussion)

What is needed to go on thinking about it would be a (I guess bitcoin) multisig wallet created with #electrum.
For that purpose it's necessary to define/find the people who hold the keys, how many keys and the kind of multisig wallet.
(2/3, 2/4, 3/5, 3/6 for example)

If you are not familiar with the terms just ask as many "stupid" learning questions as you want.

Kiwi Farms is a murderous community that gets away with it because of the benefit of the doubt since there aren't any "physical" interactions between Kiwi Farms users and their victims. But the damage they do is real. On the #Fediverse you can block the domain kiwifarms.cc but I'm afraid there is little that can be done to thwart them beyond that.

Seems like the famous Byuu/Near who developed bsnes/higan (the best SNES emulators) has committed suicide. Very sad. #linux #linuxgaming #emulation #supernes #nintendo #byuu #near

someone really needs to update the wikipedia article about the #fediverse its awful https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse

Are there any #fediverse people around the Greater Phoenix area?

#fediverse #question #newbie
Is it possible to have closed/private groups to share interests and ideas and organise ourselves? Or is that an add on thing through a different platform?
Am loving the fediverse experience so far. The more familiar I get with how it works the more awesome it is!!!

Years before the Internet became available outside universities, I was running a #FidoNet node, a network of #BBS which allowed users to exchange mail and post to discussion groups.

We were volunteer-driven and funded by donations. More hierarchical and more bureaucratic than the #fediverse: we had elections for administrative roles, a long policy everyone had to agree to, voting for policy changes...

FidoNet reached 20k nodes at its apogee.

Problem federating with pleroma

How many people will read this post throughout the #Fediverse ?

Count yourselves, please.

Pluming for freedom

Hhhh, reconsider this. They are your typical edge lords using humor to advance discriminatory beliefs. Although if you want the same kind of shit, you can go over to shpposter.club where I believe they're trying to emulate the same community. For #fediverse admins who blocked SPC, you can #fediblock this new domain on sight.

As @Hypolite Petovan explained to you, your node can only search what it is aware of (means in local database only). Otherwise any search query needs to be replicated to all nodes causing a huge load on the network. There is an other way. You can subscribe to hashtags like e.g. #Friendica or #Fediverse or whatever you want. When your node has the relay enabled, it will include posts in your timeline with that hashtags you subscribed on.

You can "subscribe" to those tags by clicking on them (at least under Friendica) and click "follow" then. That's a healthier way (for the node network) instead of actively searching all nodes and causing a lot load on them. Don't see only yourself searching all alone, other users search, too!

It would appear that everything is finally working with my Friendica instance, in no small part because of @Hypolite Petovan. I am not a full-blown idiot when it comes to PHP and the like, but it is great to have someone at his level so willing to help and further the cause of the #fediverse. Thank you again, Kind Sir.

Great to see high-profile #LGBT accounS in #fediverse Well-known #transvestite #EmilyHoward is now on @pleromazela@pod.jamidisi-edu.de https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ8e6UVpLNg

Hubzilla (Facebook alternative) is the only social network to have a protocol allowing you to clone your account elsewhere for backup, redundancy, or migration

Content warning: Just something positive about the #fediverse

Introduction

Hi everybody!
I'm João Pinheiro, an EFL Portuguese teacher from Portugal and this is my first post on Hubzilla!
I wish you all a great week!
Stay safe!

Just, cool to see Russian and English idea exchange, regardless of content...

Hey, how'd you translate? I'm trying to figure out if you can do it =in= the #Fediverse with a plugin, or you are going to like google translate?

Wow #birdwatch is sort of a cool idea. It’s a bit like how when an account is banned on mastodon, one can list the reasons publicly on the banning instance. I could see this sort of community moderation and contextual addition being useful in the #fediverse as well.

Hi, the federated timeline shows all the public posts from around the #Fediverse that your own server knows about. This usually means that one user on your instance follows another on a different instance, thus bringing their posts to your instance.

Just a reminder: I'm working on a new web frontend for #fediverse platforms using the Mastodon API. The intention is to make it look like #Diaspora.

I'm kind of a noob at this sort of thing. If you know Vue and are interested in building this thing together, let me know!

I just realized that on my Friendica account I have 659 #Fediverse / #Federation followers, while I only have 114 #Twitter followers, despite the latter network having way more users and cross-posting to and from each other.

This just shows that network total size just isn't a relevant metrics when choosing a social media platform.

With each new #Facebook scandal like the recent WhatsApp-related one, the #Fediverse welcomes a wave of new users and admins. #Friendica gets its tiny share of the newly converted to decentralized social media. Some stick, most don't, but there's always this one guy (it's always a man) whose first few messages on GitHub are to angrily complain that Friendica isn't user-friendly enough and that it is spelling doom for a project they didn't know the day before and for the #Fediverse as a whole.

This has been going on ever since I joined the project in 2016, and we're still here. 🤷‍♂️
