I got the #rust program lsd ( https://crates.io/crates/lsd ) packaged into #debian ( https://packages.debian.org/sid/lsd ). It's my favorite ls replacement.

seriously, wtf?

Also #Apple pirated most concepts from other companies like #Xerox and to this day #Linux wasn't successfully sued for "Software Patent 🤢 🤮 Infringements"...

Hello @Friendica Developers
I asked the maintained if the #Arch #Linux #Gitea package if he plans to switch the upstream source to Forgejo and he responded that he does not plan to do so.
I don't want to share more details publicly.

What should we do with the gitea instance git.friendi.ca? Keep running gitea or switch to #Forgejo?

I need some one liner for #Linux CLI to convert a PDF to DIN A4 paper size.

Background, I scan a receipt or something and the scanner creates a PDF in the size of the receipt paper slip, I want that to be converted to an A4 paper with the content in the middle of the page. Anyone have an idea that does not require to much dependencies and can be setup with basic available #Debian packages from official sources?

Hello everybody! My name is Sam. I'm a #Linux enthusiast who lives in Canada. I like self-hosting, and really enjoy tinkering with servers.

Sometimes I play games on my #OwnCast server at https://stream.pavot.ca

Moving here from #Fosstodon as the server was getting a bit too big. This instance looks nice. :ablobcatwave:

So wie es aussieht wird die Programmiersprache Rust immer mehr zu einem ernsthaften Player und kommt raus aus der Nische. Erst im Linux Kernel und nun in Android und dies macht m.M.n. auch durchaus Sinn.

@derAlff_iot
I run it on #Ubuntu #MATE #LTS... should work fine with #Linux #Mint, i would assume. It is an #Electron based application.

I feel at home on my current instance, therefore not going to switch to a different instance. The topic is of interest for me though, so I'll be watching out for interesting accounts to follow on linuxgaming.fans. #linux #gaming

Hello #Fediverse! We are https://linuxgaming.fans, a #Mastodon instance based around #Linux and #Gaming on the OS. No matter if you are running a desktop #debian build or an #arch based #steamdeck, we're here to discuss games, configurations, how-tos, and finding new friends to share our passion with!

Our registrations are limited at the moment as we are still in the process of configuring the server. You're welcome to submit for an account though!

Hope to see you soon!

I have rediscovered Celestia 🌠 (https://celestia.space/), the absolutely mindboggling #astronomy simulation for #linux and game consoles (aka. windows®). For more than a decade it has been removed from #debian but after a todays mention (and in fact I had to figure out its forgotten name) I realised that they again offer fresh working versions for download. 🤩
And I am speeding through the galaxy arm right now at about 500 ly/s. 😁 (That's about 10^10 c.)

@Hypolite Petovan I have setup a local #Apache and added an entry to /etc/hosts to point to my local machine. Then in a /etc/apache2/sites-available/friendica.conf I setup a virtual host on that host name and even setup a self-signed SSL certificate so I can run #Friendica locally. To be able to receive mails locally, as I have #Linux running here, I had to a bit patch Friendica to disable a regex check on the entered email address. Now when I want to locally federate with e.g. #GNUSocial I just have to repeat above steps and I remember I was able to setup "remote" follow between these two local instances. For Windows users, there is #WinAMP around for a very long time, including #Mercury mail server so you could be able to repeat it even on Windows.

Mastodon, Peertube, Pixelfed: easily replace Twitter, Instagram and YouTube

For the first time (that I noticed) on the channel, #Mastodon brought a video more views than Twitter. And no, it wasn’t the video about the fediverse, it was the latest #Linux news video.

Both are really small compared to what Google search brings, but still, it’s kinda cool. And my Twitter following is way bigger, so it’s doubly cool.

:linux: My computer upgrade from GNU/Linux #Fedora 36 to the new #Fedora37 went smoothly! (#KDE spin) :blobcatheart: Even with more than 4800 packages installed. The full process was easy thanks to the detailed documentation on https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/dnf-system-upgrade/ 👍

I'll soon update my install guide for digital painters: https://www.davidrevoy.com/article913/fedora-36-kde-spin-for-a-digital-painting-workstation-reasons-and-post-install-guide but before that, I need to test it more than a month.

So far, really happy with the effortless upgrade process from one major release to another.

A screenshot of my main first monitor; a quadHD resolution of the KDE desktop environment running Fedora 37. A terminal (konsole) show info about my system with neofetch (mainly the name of the OS, and theme used, 32GB of Ram, a Ryzen 7 3700CPU and a Radeon RX 5500 graphic card). Also, more than 4800 packages, if it speaks about the number of upgrade I had to do. The screenshot also has a directory (Dolphin) open, with the episodes of Pepper&Carrot sorted correctly. In background, a speedpainting of Pepper&Carrot , enthusiast, on Krita, and with the number "37" in big.

#ActivityPub is to #Linux

#Fediverse network is to Linux users/community

Software which implemented ActivityPub is to Linux distros. Examples:
- Mastodon is to Ubuntu
- Pleroma is to Debian
- MissKey is to Linux Mint
- Friendica is to Pop_OS

You don't stop using a refrigerator because the brand you bought broke down immediately. You find a new brand.

It's the same with Linux and the Fediverse.

Ah that’s awesome!

I ended up getting a lil frustrated, so I’m taking a break for now. It’s seeming like it might be better to wait until I get a separate computer and slap #Linux on it

::: Linux 6.2 will include mainline support for Apple M1 hardware!

Currently, if running Apple M1/M2 Macs & wishing to put Linux in, one should use the Asahi Linux kernel.

There are drivers not yet mainlined, but bit by bit all is to go into the upstream Linux.

Nice OOTB experience for Apple's Arm-based hardware on mainline Linux will happen in near future; then there'll be no need to specifically use Asahi Linux.

I need a server OS that basically maintains itself (automatic updates… ideally automatic rollback on failure but at least manual rollback support).

So I’m looking into Fedora CoreOS but very few VPS hosts seem to support it (wish Hetzner did… that would be ideal for me).

The other one I’m considering is OpenSuse MicroOS.

Any other suggestions? Ideally ones supported by at least one VPS provider with speedy instance setup + an API.
