Wow #birdwatch is sort of a cool idea. It’s a bit like how when an account is banned on mastodon, one can list the reasons publicly on the banning instance. I could see this sort of community moderation and contextual addition being useful in the #fediverse as well.

Hi, the federated timeline shows all the public posts from around the #Fediverse that your own server knows about. This usually means that one user on your instance follows another on a different instance, thus bringing their posts to your instance.

I just realized that on my Friendica account I have 659 #Fediverse / #Federation followers, while I only have 114 #Twitter followers, despite the latter network having way more users and cross-posting to and from each other.

This just shows that network total size just isn't a relevant metrics when choosing a social media platform.

With each new #Facebook scandal like the recent WhatsApp-related one, the #Fediverse welcomes a wave of new users and admins. #Friendica gets its tiny share of the newly converted to decentralized social media. Some stick, most don't, but there's always this one guy (it's always a man) whose first few messages on GitHub are to angrily complain that Friendica isn't user-friendly enough and that it is spelling doom for a project they didn't know the day before and for the #Fediverse as a whole.

This has been going on ever since I joined the project in 2016, and we're still here. 🤷‍♂️

Idea for Fediverse Schema

IMHO its time to have an own protocol-prefix for Fediverse links, like:

fedi://admin@philos.fkn-systems.de

So that aplications can open directly the correct program or handling.

And it should be an RFC too - or expand an likly RFC.

Sometimes I wonder how much my #mastodon experience differs from that of people on other #fediverse instances.

For example, I see a lot of toots about the presence of racism, sexism, transphobia, techbros etc. on Mastodon, but at the same time I hardly ever experience those things myself. That's not to say that these don't exist, just that I don't often come across it. The fediverse is a big place, maybe experiences differ per server. Idk, am I just lucky to have found a chill Mastodon bubble?

Kind of wish #Pleroma would create notifications for every response in one of my threads, rather than every time a status mentions me.

There are a handful of platforms that do not produce mentions in the reply body (Friendica), whereas others use the Display Name for mentions (Hubzilla, Zap).

It'd be kind of neat if we could "Switch Notification Styles" from microblogging to something more like Facebook.

One thing that I've noticed from federating with #Friendica, #Hubzilla, and #Zap with #Pleroma: statuses that mention me render the mention with my display name, and not my user handle.

This isn't necessarily *wrong*, it's just that the mention is displaying in a way that's native to their own platform. Is there a way to improve how mentions are rendered, so that they look native on the platform that's rendering them?

Like, it'd be nice if I saw my mentions as @sean instead of @deadsuperhero or whatever. So I guess the question is, how exactly might this be fixed? Is there a way for both platforms to render the same mentions differently?

Don't loose posts from rare posters anymore!

I had a problem with #Friendica, compared to Faceshit. I constantly read posts by only the most frequently posting accounts. And others were just lost on the timeline.

So I made a little script. Idea is to group contacts by posting frequency into couple of groups created just for this purpose, like "rare", "very rare" and "frequent". I run this script from time to time to automatically move contacts between these groups.
