Back in the old days before I became software developer, I used to be a plumber, one thing I learned back then is to like the idea of connecting simple, semi-independent components into one large network.

As both political activist and free software user, I'm not total stranger to the concept of Fediverse.

the #Fediverse is design to respect your #freedom and #privacy. this is more then just service provider being nice, this is ensured by free software, open standards and the decentralized nature of the network. together it comes to your data being yours. the freedom to publish your content or to keep it private, is the core of online freedom of speech and privacy.

No wonder, therefor, that when I decided to start a blog, my first step was to explore the #Fediverse and it's different platforms (social networks, file hosting, microbloging) to find a platform suitable for writing and sharing with others, independent of any centralist corporate network (such as Facebook or Twitter) and at the same time easily distributed on such networks.

In the case of a blog, privacy is a lesser issue, and the top priority is freedom, not being subject to censorship, thanks to the basic fact that you can be banned from a server but it's almost imposible to ban you from the whole network.
when choosing a platform that respects your freedom, a strong case that comes to mind is the case censorship of #Layla Khaled by Zoom, Facebook and Youtube (thanks to @cbug@venera.social).

the result, maybe temporary result, is using
Plume. a blog engine written in #rust. it does have problems, but that is for another post.
the federated design of the #Fediverse lets me "boost" (like retweet) this in my @bhyoram@mastodon.social account, which in turn is piped to my twitter.

I may dive into #Plume source code one day, to help improving my ecosystem, it's more fun then maintaining "friends" in the big book of no faces.

I am wondering, why so few people use #Friendica. I personally started out on #Mastodon, but soon already moved on to Friendica, as it simply gives a huge extra load of features: compatible with all Fediverse #protocols (even #Diaspora), excellent feed reader functionality (in combination with #Nitter, #Bibliogram and #Invidious I get a feed from all my important #Twitter, #Instagram and #Youtube contacts directly in my Friendica timeline, without having an account on any of those commercial platforms), native Twitter bridge support (which I personally don't use), longer posts, a lot of extra #socialNetworking functionality like #forums, #events, #friendship, etc.

I do admit, that Friendica's #UI is much less modern and dynamic than Mastodon's, but this is the only downside I've found so far, and I'm also surprised, that no new UI has appeared within the last years, which would mitigate that.

I'd appreciate your views on that, and would be happy to hear other reasons for the fact that according to https://the-federation.info/, Mastodon currently has 440,713 monthly active users, while Friendica only has 1,770... 😀

So @Ingo Lantschner wants to work on the #wiki, specifically the German part of it, the start page (de) is currently not in a good condition, I told him to just fix it. If he needs help he can comment here and "call for help".
I hope you gals and guys will support him, wikis are not easy to understand in the beginning.

One think I don't know for example is, how to tell the wiki that /de/seite/name is the equivalent to /page/name (on in de and one in en). Can someone tell me? Why do we actually use different names for the site, the URL naming could be en, nobody would care about that, right?

The the next question, the #Fediverse page should be translated as well, even so it is in /docs, right? I still don't get what it was with /docs, is this the content of /help, no it is not? So it is what was in the wiki on github, is it?

@Ingo Lantschner ich glaube die erste gute Idee wäre die Startseite auf deutsch wieder so zu gestalten, dass sie wie die englische aussieht. Die Links kannst du dann wahrscheinlich analog wählen, ggf. eben auf deutsch. Wobei ich nicht sicher bin, warum wir nicht einfach die gleichen URLs nutzen und Seitennamen nutzen wie auf der en Version, dass wäre zumindest deutlich einfacher?
