Cover (video thumbnail) of the video: it shows a view of the tablet on my desktop, with keyboard on the top and the title (XPPen Artist 16 Pro Gen2 Review) in big, not that I want to poluate your TL, it's just the size necessary for a thumbnail on video platform. 😉

XPPen Artist Pro 16 (Gen 2) - review on GNU/Linux

Finally reviewed Dice Legacy (2021) and it’s disappointing, as foretold by the early reviews. I wanted it to be better, but the studio DESTINYbit’s answer to the well-deserved criticism has been surprisingly immature.

Here it is, my #Review of Death Stranding. I left the game not much better than when I entered it ~75 play hours ago, which is a testament to the talent the studio had to deploy to make any sense of Kojima's hypothetical grand plan. #VideoGames

I just added my name to the list of researchers and academics, who refuse to #publish, #review or do editorial work for #Elsevier's journals.

Elsevier extracts rent from publicly funded #research by making society pay for it twice through article-processing-charges and subscription.

It also draws unreasonable profits from labor that academics do for free.

LVL004: Friendica - A Review

This is my review of the Friendica social network, and a follow-up to a previous video I did about the Fediverse. Friendica is my new favourite way to interact with social media, and in this video, I explain why.

As always, my current social media contacts are always on my web site.

For more information about Friendica, see their website.

For more information on the Fediverse in general, this site gives a nice overview.

Off the cuff review of Disco Elysium

Started playing Disco Elysium by British studio ZA/UM and after about 4 hours I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand I absolutely love the inner monologue with all the different aspects of one's personality and the tailored experience the initial stats value provide through successful automatic checks and the interjection they trigger. The passage of time also is an interesting mechanic.

On the other I feel like all the political topics are just for show. Several political philosophy terms are thrown around in conversations with NPCs, but they either fizzle into a vague apolitical stance or it puts the main character who, like the player, doesn't have a good grasp on the political history of the game world, on the spot to express unnuanced opinions through seemingly forced dialogues options.

What about you? Have you played or finished or abandoned Disco Elysium?

I've been disappointed by Thing Explainer by Randall Munroe of XKCD fame, I didn't feel it was as wholesome as the rest of his work usually feel to me. #review #book

Mini #review: I checked out the new Netflix-produced sitcom The Crew (2021) made by, and for Kevin James apparently. I was intrigued by the setup in a NASCAR racing team, but eventually I realized I'm probably tired of shows laugh-washing mediocre white men.

Another #LEGO set #review, an unanimously positive one this time!

I've started buying #LEGO sets again, and, well, I have stuff to say about them. We start with a mostly negative #review of the LEGO Technic 42098 Car Transporter set.

#videogames mini-#review: BattleTech (2018) by Harebrained Schemes is shiny and enjoyable to play, but ultimately the asymmetric goals between the player-controlled tight-budget mercenary outfit and systematically outnumbering kamikaze enemies forced me to cheese the game. 😕

None of you acknowledged this marvelous piece of writing about a special #videogame, surely you must have missed it in the never-ending firehose of social media posts.

I finally sat down to write my fast and furious experience over the last month with a slow and steady #videogame, Euro Truck Simulator 2 from SCS Software.

#Movie mini #review: I watched again Drive (2011) by Nicolas Winding Refn with Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan and I honestly couldn't remember why I liked it the first time. The opening robbery scene still is masterful, but the rest of the movie is a slow and boring drag.

Mini #VideoGame #Review: I really wanted to like Impact Winter (2017) by Mojo Bones and published by Bandai Namco, a snowy post-apocalyptic survival game. Both the visuals and the soundtrack are top notch, but the awkward combat mechanics ruined my games.

Mini #Movie #Review: Despite a star-studded cast (Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Keaton), The Other Guys (2010) is a crass comedy that's never good nor bad enough to be good. You can safely avoid it on Netflix.

20 years later, my search for a worthy successor to Bullfrog Productions' Theme Hospital has finally reached an end. Oxymoron Games' Project Hospital isn't wacky nor cartoony, and yet it is damn good.

Review of the Joker movie sight unseen

Yesterday I wrote way too many words about Joker, a #movie I didn't see and definitely don't want to watch.

Enjoy!
