Help my mum get something out of the #fediverse

My mum uses Facebook currently because there's a few groups on it that she likes.

I'm no longer on it, and she's joined the #fediverse (on my instance) but I'm struggling to find replacement groups.

So, does anyone know any good #fedi #groups/instances focused on #gardening, #mushroom / #fungi identification, #wildlife in general, wildlife in the UK, etc.?

Please don't @ her (she doesn't yet fully understand how this stuff works, and isn't looking for people to contact her out of the blue). Hence why I'm looking for groups or instances that I can point her at the local timelines of. Then she can control her own interactions with them.

She's fluent in #German and #English.

But please do @ me with any info.

Boosts appreciated.
Ah, and it works now. I couldn't send her there before, as the follow buttons were all broken
@Ian Molton they still seem to be broken for me. If I click follow, it tells me to sign in, then tells me my log in details are incorrect.

@Tobias ok, Iโ€™m going to post screenshots.

I scrolled through the list, and picked out the Friendica Support group.

I click on โ€œFollowโ€ and get this screen.

Iโ€™ve tried everything I can think of in that box, and itโ€™s either failing without giving an error message or timing out.

So I clicked the little door symbol at the top to log in, and used the username & password I use to login to Ianโ€™s instance, but get this error message

Presumably thatโ€™s because I donโ€™t have an account with that particular instance, but I donโ€™t know what else to try.

@Tobias Shouldn't that be filled in automatically, though, as it is when following a user?
On that last point, yes, you are correct; you don't have an account on that instance. AIUI, you shouldn't need one either.

On the first point - Im not sure why you got that screen. It looks like I get the same.

The global directory seems to work for following *users* but not forums - Perhaps the same fix needed for Forums as was recently made for following users? @Tobias
@Ian Molton@Tobias Iโ€™m also really disappointed by the lack of forums. The only one (other than the support one) that I was remotely interested in by name, I clicked on and it was more of a pisstake than anything else.

Searching by hashtags doesnโ€™t seem overly helpful either - I was looking for an ADHD community, but all I got was a load of peopleโ€™s introduction posts
Ah - update...

@Tobias

It seems like the friend requests work ONLY for local users.

Non-local users all do the same as forums do.
@Tobias Iโ€™ve tried again with both option. I get a blue bar across the top as it submits the request, but no redirect.
@Ian Molton@Tobias hmmm, that just seems to send, regardless of being on a different instance.
@Tobias@Ian Molton the screen doesn't change for me. I certainly donโ€™t get redirected anywhere, or asked to verify.

Iโ€™m going to try sending you a friend/follow request to see if I get the same thing.
@Tobias

Why does it not behave like the first screenshot, where all I have to do is click a button? Why would I want to fill that in manually?
Can you please paste the link that's not working?
Sorry, it was meant for Tobias
