Warum sich das #Fediverse nicht so aufregend, nicht so prickelnd anfühlt wie die großen, kommerziellen sozialen Plattformen.
Evan schreibt auf Twitter:
Major social platforms have been optimised to give you addictive jolts of brain chemicals like adrenaline, serotonin and dopamine when you use them.
When you move to a decentralised network or a site you run yourself, you will miss this chemical jolt. People sometimes say that the new site doesn't feel "fun" or "interesting". They are literally in withdrawal from addictive chemicals.
That lowered level of engagement is a feature, not a bug. Mastodon sites or WordPress blogs aren't trying to keep you glued to the screen so they can show you more ads.
The needs they satisfy are different: creative self-expression, meaningful conversation, connection with people you actually know and care about.
If you can get through the withdrawal stage without running back to your social networks, you can have a much better relationship with yourself, your friends and family, and the Internet.
