I want to add an application into the #ActivityPub (mostly for fun).

Is there any kind of local toolchain which allow to test the proper implementation so that over #Fediverse systems can understand it properly?

Boost would be great, thanks :rubberduck:

Please don't use #Fedified! 🙏

This is what it says about itself:

"(Fedified) is *the* way to make sure that you're following the account managed by the same person you used to follow on Twitter."

It wants to be a central authority. This is dangerous, and opposite to what the #Fediverse stands for.

People become dependent on a central authority, then it gets bought out by billionaires.

You can already verify your account on here without using any centralised lists:

👑 🔇 Cool. Realized you can download the so-called #fedified CSV list and import the file to your #Mastodon #mute list so you don't have to see all the clout chasers coming here thinking that their following count should give them some kind of special privileges in the #Fediverse.

:boost_requested: Boost for public service? 💜

First of all, thanks for creating this fantastic app to traverse the #fediverse! Love it!
Need to know how to customise it. Is there an easy to follow guide?

Understanding a little bit more about the #fediverse through data. Here is a plot of all #fediverse instances at instances.social as a function of their number of users and toots (statuses) and if they are open for new accounts. In general, instances are small in the number of users (median = 28). Interestingly, there are a lot of small, very active, and closed servers in the #fediverse. Also, some of the biggest servers are Japanese communities.
This chart shows the relationship between the number of users and the number of toots (statuses) for all the instances in the fediverse. Each point corresponds to one instance, where the horizontal coordinate is the number of users and the vertical coordinate is the number of toots. Points are colored in orange if the instance is open for new registrations or blue if they are closed. The plot shows a large dependence between number of toots and number of users. We also see some interesting facts: there is a lot of blue points in the left top part, which correspond to small, very active and close for registration instances. On the top right we see the instances which are biggest in the number of users and toots. In that part of the plot three instances are annotated: "mastodon.social" (open), "mastdn.jp" (open) and "pawoo.net" (closed).

you're being unreasonable. #Elon popularised the #fediverse more than anyone ever in the history of mankind! 😁

I thought it was important I share this picture of a #squirrel with a #donut in its mouth to the entire #Fediverse because when I posted it to #Twitter, it got one like. And I know #Mastodon will not allow such injustice.
A grey squirrel stands on top of a bush, arms at its side, and a chocolate-glazed donut in its mouth. The donut has a clear human bite mark facing the camera as if it was tasted, then discarded.

It's nice that #Mastodon is getting all this new attention. Just wanted to remind everyone that there's more than just Mastodon on the Fediverse.

I wanted to setup a single-user instance on the Fediverse, but did not want to deal with the involved Mastodon install (which I've done a while ago). I found Soapbox with Rebased as the back-end and used that. The setup was super simple, it runs well on a low resource machine and the UI is fantastic.

Thanks to @alex for making Soapbox.

Let’s try this again. Where you at #fediverse? Boosts welcome so we can get the best sample size.

  • North America/South America (27%, 477 votes)
  • Europe (67%, 1187 votes)
  • Asia/Pacific (4%, 78 votes)
  • Africa (0%, 6 votes)
1748 voters. Poll end: 2 years ago

these days people crisscrossing between posts and boosts and following random people and entering random threads to start up their presence. There isn't a warmup phase as #fediverse don't offer that: if you're not getting involved you get no messages. That's a hard period, when regulars should keep repeat with extreme patience the expected #norms here, apart from the local server specific norms.
Some pepole think this can be skipped, but they're wrong (IMHO).

#ActivityPub is to #Linux

#Fediverse network is to Linux users/community

Software which implemented ActivityPub is to Linux distros. Examples:
- Mastodon is to Ubuntu
- Pleroma is to Debian
- MissKey is to Linux Mint
- Friendica is to Pop_OS

You don't stop using a refrigerator because the brand you bought broke down immediately. You find a new brand.

It's the same with Linux and the Fediverse.

#Introduction Hello Mastodon! I've spent the last day looking around and I like what I see, so thanks #fediverse for what you've built, and the warm welcome to new folks like me.

Who am I? I am no one. Just someone who's been lucky enough to work in #Antarctica for 16 years, and is back for another summer season, this time on the #antarcticpeninsula .

I am employed here, but don't represent anyone but me. I'm proud to work in Antarctica, and happy to share with you. Not a #twittermigration .

Kommenden Freitag, 11. 😉 https://valug.at/

@Shelenn Ayres For me it's a "Yes, but".

The #Fediverse has a rather low discoverability which is both a boon and a curse, but it still has some. People posting problematic content may not reach you once you mute/block them, but by default it will land in the local timeline of their instance, and in the global timeline of every remote instance they are interacting with. So even if it can't harm you anymore, it can still harm other people who didn't ask for it either.

Thankfully #Friendica has admin controls for this where accounts can be silenced on the local and/or global community pages, but moderators still need to be aware of the potentially offended content.

Average #Twitter user: Please follow me, anyone. Anyone?
Average #Fediverse user: Please unfollow me, it would be right-o with me.

One of the reasons I believe the #Fediverse isn’t and probably never will be attractive to celebrities is that there currently is no preferential treatment/increased moderation designed around them.

On commercial platforms, they are an integral part of the business model so it makes sense to dedicate more resources towards their well-being, despite the service staying free for them.

I can imagine a Fediverse instance with a monthly fee for the same kind of extra moderation service Facebook and Twitter are currently providing for free to celebrities, but it might still be unattractive.

The hashtag #artistsontwitter (sic) is currently trending on #Twitter. This smells of desperation, while I also recognize that jumping over to the #Fediverse isn't seamless. We're in the in-between period where anything can happen.

One of the quick pieces from last year. I make those in-between freelance projects because I need to make personal stuff to refresh. And when there's not enough time, a small scale is the way to go.

Is there a #fediverse #relay which can join a `v1/streaming/public` API endpoint, effectively relaying public posts of an independent server?

@silwol@LeCalicot I'll take that as a reminder to bubble up "write up how I think we could have both the semantic uniqueness of URIs and the UX sweetness of hashtags on the #fediverse" on my To-Do list

This one is for all the new people on #Mastodon: did you know that the #fediverse has more than just a microblogging replacement? And that they can all interoperate with your Mastodon account?

Check them out!

Good Morning #fediverse #tzag time for some black magic #coffee

I’m less happy for the #Fediverse to grow than for #Twitter to collapse so quickly under the rule of the wonderboy.

Personally, a bunch of people I wasn’t following in Twitter came and I won’t follow them here either so it’s a blank operation. My posts are receiving marginally more reactions which can be both a boon and a curse. I was satisfied with the previous levels of activity so I erring on the side of cautiousness.

We’re getting more bug report over here at #Friendica 🙈

Hi @PastaThief , @Spencer and myself (and others!) aren't using the Mastodon software, even though we can communicate with you! Please be sure to check out the remote profile of anyone you intend on providing any advice strictly related to the Mastodon software, as it can give you a clue whether your advice will be relevant to their own use of the #Fediverse.

@Aurelpec Hi, welcome to the #fediverse! Please consider filling out your profile; the culture here is a bit different than Twitter and many people won't want to be followed by accounts that don't have an #introduction post, a bio, and a profile pick so that they know a little bit about you. Welcome again, and let us know if you need any help getting acclimated!

I have a few contacts who cross-post to #Twitter and the #Fediverse, and I currently like their duplicated posts on both sides. Should I stop liking their tweets to encourage them to ditch their Twitter account? 😈

(disclaimer: not serious)

New users, welcome to the #Fediverse. Shitposter.Club is possibly the oldest instance still in operation, and arguably its flagship instance. We were here before you, we will still be here after you have gone. Registrations are closed because you are not worthy.

Can't like, reshare, or mark this post

hello !Friendica Support

I am using the 2022.10 version of friendica. I know the bug, that i can't like a post of somebody I don't follow. but this one, I also cannot reshare. I can also not mark it for later:

https://amical.info/display/ec054ce7-3663-5eb3-90a2-841075052231

Also I don't see all the counted likes and comments, that exist on the original post..
somebody has an idea ? what to do... ? should i use the develop version? never tried that

As long as possible, I kind of want Twitter to become absolutely unsalvageable, where only journalists, brands and celebrities would have stayed on it because their attention-based business model doesn't work as well on the #Fediverse.
