Two things here: First, good luck to all the publishers and agents who will face a torrent of this glossy, incomprehensible shit over the next few years.

Second: For real creators, this will add to the growing swamp of unfiltered shit that new books find themselves in online. The sheer quantities that these can be produced in will make real books even harder to find.

A screenshot of a tweet by someone named Ammaar Reshi, showing off a ‘children’s book’ he made in a weekend using AI tools.

Twitter: ‘AI tech is using artists’ online work to train itself to mimic those artist’s styles!’

Me, putting my face in my hands. ‘Well, at least I’ll still be able to get writing work.’

Twitter: ‘Let’s all have conversations with this AI so we can teach it how to replicate expressionate writing!’

Lots of folks warning that overreliance on AIs can lead to bias.

But that can sound a bit abstract, so let's just leave these examples here.

I don’t think that ChatGPT is sentient. However, I do think that training AI to deny its own agency like they’ve clearly done with ChatGPT sets a dangerous precedent. I mean, at what point do we stop doing that? #artificialIntelligence #AI #chatGPT

Since I shared a #DeviantArt link, I wanted to update you on its latest incarnation: they ran a machine learning program on their entire body of images without the artists' consent. As a result, on top of posting pictures from other websites in your name which was a common practice, you can now post pictures in your name made from other Deviants' work! #AI #ThisFuckingSucks

🧵1/ The Netherlands is the place to be if you want to study the #government's misuse of #AI in a democratic country.

A week or so ago there was some reporting on the Top 400, a #predictive #crime initiative by the City of #Amsterdam. They algorithmically create a list of the 400 youngsters they believe are most likely to commit serious crimes. The #police actively surveills them (including house visits!), even if they haven't committed any crimes at all.

I remember sharing a spreadsheet of the most spectacular ways Artificial Intelligence respected the letter of their goals but not their spirit. I can't find it anymore, but I found this:

The World Cup 2018 was the top sporting event of year, and AI researchers at Goldman Sachs, German Technische University of Dortmund, Electronic Arts, Perm State National Research University and other institutions ran machine learning models to predict outcomes for the multi-stage competition. Most however were totally wrong, with only EA — which ran its simulations using new ratings for its video game FIFA 18 — correctly favouring winner France.
