Can we please have a setting in the administrator panel to set the character limit for a Mastodon instance?
The current lack of such a setting does nothing apart from create a two-tier fediverse where folks who have the time to maintain their own Mastodon fork and folks who use other ActivityPub servers can write as much as they like whereas everyone else is limited to 500 characters. Weโre not kids; make the option accessible and let instance owners decide for themselves.
I've asked for help with setting up a mastodon server before and gotten nothing.

Its running and I can login with the admin account but its not getting anything from the fediverse, my other 3 accounts on different servers are not connecting. Please, someone help me.

At long last, beamship is LIVE!!! Thank you ALL. It was a DNS resolution error, was using our internal DNS ๐ญ so, THAT has a problem to... Next problem is the email system.

All is working up to the email confirmations. Still not sending messages to confirm new accounts and probably notifications.

Ah, okay, the app doesn't register itself...
Usually a #Mastodon app registers itself as an app on the instance and then obtain a token through a user login.
Then the question would be, does #Friendica allow to create manually an app and then an user token...
As i just set up a #Friendica instance last year for testing, i can't answer this from my mind...

If you follow someone who boosts way too often, and you want to see their posts but not their boosts, you can do this:
1. Go to their profile page
2. Click on the menu button ๏ธ
3. Select "Hide boosts from..."
If you change your mind later, go back to their profile and select "Show boosts from..." instead.
This is just a test. Can you read it from Mastodon/Pleroma/Friendica et al?

At the bottom it shows the number of boosts. Click on the icon and youโll get a list of others that have boosted the post. Same with favorite icon. Ta-dah!

I'd like to interject for a moment.
What you're referring to as #Mastodon is in fact the #Fediverse. You see, Mastodon is just one of many possible software projects that interact with the wider Fediverse through a protocol called #ActivityPub. There are many other projects you can use, Mastodon isn't the only one, nor was it the first. Pretending it is either of those things is doing a huge disservice to all the people who made the Fediverse what it is. Originally, the protocol in use was OStatus and GNU Social was one of the first convenient instances - Mastodon came much later and ended up doing a huge disservice to the Fediverse by intentionally removing support for OStatus abruptly even though the warriors of GNU noted ActivityPub would be implemented within 3-4 months. Thus, the warriors of GNU were not amused by the intentional segregation of the network and the GNU+Jihad on the Fediverse was born - the warriors are interjecting to this day, despite how many people call it "Mastodon" by mistake.

I just realised that #mastodon "full text search" is crap. I cannot find anything at all, search only my own stuff instead of "full".
