Summing up tests "activating" and "deactivating" @[Mentioned people only] on #mastodon. Apparently there have been some changes.
(from v3 to v4?)
You can't add more people into already existing posts. They won't be able to display it nore get notifications.
(if that ever existed)
You can deactivate/delete mentions, the profile won't get notifications of updates but still can see or search those toots.
note:
still awaiting confirmation of behaviour on #friendica

thx, first of all!
As of now I actually don't need help.
I have those "tests" already awaiting me in a friendica profile, actually in several, but hadn't the time to check. Also, as toots over here have the 500 character restrictions the amount of info just matched, I'll reply from friendica itself later.
At the same time I needed to sum up the results to get them out of my head, not forget them or mix them up and delete thes test toots over here as they were clutering real toots.
👍

•As this is about notification not about inicial mentions but when re-editing the content of already existing replies on one hand, and actual change of mentions by editing already existing posts/toots and eventual results, it's kinda difficult to grasp, even worse when starting the intra platform comunication.
There were definitely some issues in the past how mastodon handled and/or handles the settings of restrictions of posts and replies. As these are things under the hood, and even is varying if you use desktop or an app this really starts building up some kind of entanglement in your head that there comes a moment you're not even sure anymore on which proofile your on or where you posted what.
Adding to that eventual delays in the network and even differences in the versions of plattforms it's like your head goes:
Next thing, you change your browser because the one youre using goes "berserk", feels like having more than one greek horse in it's belly and sudenly one ore ano

Than suddenly with epiphany you can't do profile changes on mastodon so you have to change to another browser again. Next, text editing in mastodon on a desktop is stone age kinda like, compared to friendica, than you come over here and suddenly you can't change the window size of this reply window with epiphany at least in frio, but the other options out there chromium/brave/firefox are all sold out and at the same time you know that maybe it's just a bug and not that you f*** system is compromised and you end up like:
.. and all while waiting if you get a notification that actually maybe doesn't even exist.

•The behaviour of friendica stable (2023.05) apparently is as follows.
You don't get notifications about edits of replies, as does happen on mastodon while your mention is "active/existing". When your mention is "deactivated" you still can see the reply and the changes in the edit, like to say no changes in the behaviour at all.
