After watching a YouTube video a friend recorded of one of his Silksong playthrough, YouTube recommended me a recent provocative video about Denzel Washington allegedly storming off The Late Show with Stephen Colbert stage. I didn't click on it, but it did pique my curiosity, as I didn't expect either men to behave this way. A new MIT study titled, Your Brain on ChatGPT: Accumulation of Cognitive Debt when Using an AI Assistant for Essay Writing Task, has found that using ChatGPT to help write essays leads to long-term cognitive harm—measurable through EEG brain scans. Students who repeatedly relied on ChatGPT showed weakened neural connectivity, impaired memory recall, and diminished sense of ownership over their own writing. While the AI-generated content often scored well, the brains behind it were shutting down.

BEWARE of Google AI generated video scams -- eight second segments can be a critical clue!
Fraudsters are now using the new advanced #Google #AI video system to create scam videos (including claiming to be from #YouTube) of humans speaking to camera. These are EXTREMELY convincing. One clue (for now) is that the created videos are often limited to eight second segments. To create longer scam videos, fraudsters are stringing together these segments of no more than eight seconds each, usually with a quick fade between them to mask the discontinuities between the segments.
Google is making life much easier for the fraudsters, but much worse for you.
That's it, I had to pull out one archive website I hosted because it was getting pummeled by AI crawlers and I wasn't able to find a good way to throttle requests with Apache 2.4 and mpm_itk.
You won, #AI, you have content that isn't available for anyone else anymore.

The statement “why would I bother to read something someone couldn't be bothered to write?” almost perfectly captures so many peoples’ feelings about #AI.
And it evokes @pluralistic’s reminder that although AI probably can’t do your job, an AI salesman can probably convince your boss that it can.
In the end, this technology (or rather the market for this tech) is aimed squarely at its least noble use: cheapening and degrading human labor that doesn’t fit neatly into a balance sheet.
