Stephen Miller Rushed to Hospital After Accidentally Stunning Himself with ICE Shock Gloves

Image/photo

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In what was called “an experiment gone horribly awry,” on Thursday White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller tested a pair of ICE “shock gloves” on himself and inadvertently sent 380 volts of electricity coursing through his body.

Moments after Miller made the questionable decision to grasp his own neck with the electrified gloves, White House staffers found him writhing on the floor spasmodically and foaming at the mouth.

After he was rushed to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said that Miller was “rambling and incoherent, so we expect a full recovery.”

At the White House, Donald Trump had no comment about the incident until Natalie Harp reminded him who Stephen Miller was.

A quotation from Bertrand Russell

If you wish a man to commit some abominable crime, from which he would naturally recoil in horror, you first teach him loyalty to a gang of arch-criminals, and then make his crime appear to him as exemplifying the virtue of loyalty. Of this process, patriotism is the most perfect instance.

Bertrand Russell (1872–1970) English mathematician and philosopher
Education and the Social Order [Education and the Modern World], ch. 1 “The Individual vs. the Citizen” (1932)

A quotation (probably) from Hannah Arendt

The death of human empathy is one of the earliest and most telling signs of a culture about to fall into barbarism.

A quotation by Harris, Sydney J.
Men may be divided almost any way we please, but I have found the most useful distinction to be made between those who devote their lives to conjugating the verb “to be” and those who spend their lives conjugating the verb “to have.”

Quote of the day:

SOMETIMES THE FIRST STEP TO FORGIVENESS IS UNDERSTANDING THAT THE OTHER PERSON IS A COMPLETE IDIOT.

“What an astonishing thing a book is. It’s a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you’re inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic.”

Consumer debt is the lifeblood of our economy. All modern nation states are built on deficit spending. Debt has come to be the central issue of international politics. But nobody seems to know exactly what it is, or how to think about it.

The individualist is like a wolf who prefers the dangers of liberty to the routine of domestication. Individualists compare themselves to the bird who would prefer to suffer and struggle on its branch than to die a slow death in the servitude of a gilded cage.
