FOSS Browser v 16 "Richard Stallman" (WIP)

Why I use #Firefox

  1. The about:config page
  2. Mozilla cannot decrypt my data on their servers
  3. Translating web pages is also completely private
  4. Mozilla develops their own browser engine
  5. The best support for extensions on #Android
  6. A great picture-in-picture player

I #trust #Mozilla more than I trust #Google, #Apple, #Microsoft, or any other company that makes #web browsers. This trust is based on the fact that Mozilla chooses the highest level of user privacy when developing services such as Firefox Sync, Firefox Translate, and others. A web browser is an integral part of a person’s #online life, so it makes sense to choose a #browser from a company that one trusts the most.

How many #browser #tabs do you have usually open?

Stupid #poll cannot have more than 4 options, so extremities are welcome in comments.

  • 1-10 (40%, 87 votes)
  • 11-49 (30%, 65 votes)
  • 50-199 (20%, 45 votes)
  • 200+ (8%, 19 votes)
216 voters. Poll end: 7 months ago

#BraveBrowser is installing VPNs without users' consent, even if you didn't willingly enable their #VPN service. Just stop using #Brave, it's garbage.

Edit: the services are disabled by default, but they were still installed with very little to no transparency about them towards the user, alongside all the other stuff that's often unwanted from Brave users (Pocket on Firefox is to blame too, lol.)

A list of recent hostile moves by #Google's #Chrome team; handy for sharing with your entourage, to explain why they should stop using #Chromium / #GoogleChrome and use #Firefox or #Epiphany as their main #web #browser :

* The "Manifest v3" sabotage of content blocking extensions: https://www.theverge.com/2022/6/10/23131029/mozilla-ad-blocking-firefox-google-chrome-privacy-manifest-v3-web-request
* The attempted sabotage of #JPEGXL: https://www.cnet.com/tech/computing/chrome-banishes-jpeg-xl-photo-format-that-could-save-phone-space/
* #WebEnvironmentIntegrity a.k.a. #DRM for whole websites would hurt the web, #opensource browsers and OSes: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/07/googles-web-integrity-api-sounds-like-drm-for-the-web/

#Vivaldi allows you screen capture full pages on #Android!

In the quick menu select the Capture Page to start the Screen Capture, you can capture either the visible area or the whole page.

Is this a broken #soapbox installation @alex@gleasonator.com or a bug? #Rebased is showing 404 error in #browser console when visiting empty #trends status page while other blank pages do not. For new installs, here's the page with error: https://www.example.com/api/v1/trends/statuses

Don't use the #Brave #browser, especially if you're #privacy -conscious.

1. Shitty crypto scam embedded into it (BAT)
2. Whitelists privacy breaking scripts (https://brave.com/script-blocking-exceptions-update/)
3. Embedded "Brave Today" in new tabs which can't really be completely disabled and makes a shit ton of requests, including tracking ones
