Asbestos: The piece is me asking ‘What is home?’. Do you have one, is it safe, can you afford it? Never as a country has our sense of what home means been more at threat. I painted this figure wearing a cardboard box on his head to start a conversation with the public about what home means to them. As a country we are currently in an existential crisis over housing.

Bifido (direct translation): This wall belongs to an old abandoned tobacco factory. For years, people of all sexes and ages have worked inside it, many hours a day. As is the case in thousands of other places. A life at work, a life without life. Life in your free time, spent being entertained in some refreshing recreational activity. I often think of the concept of free time. I hate free time. It is the charity of a society that wants us to be slaves. You are pregnant with a sweat that exhausts, without giving joy. Making a work at work for me meant expressing all my dissent against this absurd idea that work (as a mere sustenance) gives meaning to our life. Making art is my job and I love it.

Murmure: This work questions the importance of waste recycling, and the tendency of developed countries to make great efforts to send the problem away from them. It questions the voluntary blindness of our societies, casting our problems away and expecting some sort of natural order to restore balance in the ecosystem.

The mural was entirely painted with acrylic and brushes, with the goal of being very realistic from a far, and as you come closer to see the brushes strokes and the color work. Also this wall is unique in a way as it is a traditional playground for Basque pelota and we wanted to keep as much as possible the natural beauty of it and play with it instead of totally covering it up to preserve this cultural heritage.

In the heart of Lyon, France, adorning the façade of a building, stands the magnificent Wall of the Silk Weavers (La Fresque des Canuts)

This enormous mural, painted in the trompe-l’oeil style, mesmerizes viewers with its hyperrealistic imagery and intricate details, offering a captivating glimpse into the everyday life of the La Croix-Rousse neighborhood.

Created by the talented group of mural painters known as CitéCréation, the mural first came to life in 1987 as a tribute to the neighborhood’s rich history. La Croix-Rousse once served as the bustling center of Lyon’s silk industry during the 19th century, earning it the nickname “the hill that works.” The mural, known as “Le Mur des Canuts,” pays homage to the silk weavers who resided and toiled in this vibrant community.

“Floating World” by Ray Bartkus in Marijampolė, Lithuania.

This remarkable mural by Ray Bartkus was intentionally painted upside-down to create a magical effect. The swimmers, rowers, and swans appear right-side-up only when reflected in the waters of the Šešupė River, which flows through the heart of the city.

Visitors to the old dam are invited to rediscover the mural’s beauty time and time again. As Bartkus explains:

“The drawing itself is created in reverse, and its true form is revealed only in the water’s reflection. I hope that every time people pass by, they will discover something new, because this artwork, like our days in life, is never the same as it was yesterday.”

In Porto, Portugal by Vhils: “New wall completed last Friday for “Look at Porto”, in the great city of Porto, Portugal. The piece combines natural and human elements, with the figure’s eye gazing out poetically towards the city and its old neighbourhoods, humanising the built environment while highlighting the wealth of its human heritage”.

In 2020, the University of Bristol in Bristol, UK, saw the installation of a fascinating and unique public art piece.

Created by artist Luke Jerram, this facility not only boasts stunning visuals, but also offers a bench inside, allowing visitors to sit back and immerse themselves in what feels like a colorful rainbow conservatory.

The story behind this art installation began in September 2019, when Luke Jerram was approached by Milan-based production company 3D Produzioni. They requested an artwork to celebrate the 600th anniversary of Brunelleschi’s dome of Florence Cathedral (Duomo di Firenze). The artwork needed to be at least 5 meters in height and fabricated quickly for a temporary presentation, with its design and creation documented for a program.

Luke developed several concepts, but the final commissioned artwork is based on a spiraling lamella dome structure. This dome is cut in half, with the two halves placed parallel to each other, resembling the two palms of hands coming together in prayer.

While the Florence Cathedral serves as a temple for contemplating God, this new artwork is designed for contemplating nature. Suspended in the apex of the dome is an Extinction Bell, which tolls randomly 150-200 times a day, symbolizing the number of species lost worldwide every 24 hours. This estimate of species loss comes from a 2007 UN Environmental Programme report. The Extinction Bell raises awareness of biodiversity loss, making audible events that are invisible to us and occurring simultaneously across the world in multiple habitats.

Experience the breathtaking visuals of this unique public art installation and reflect on the pressing issue of biodiversity loss, as you sit inside this rainbow conservatory at the University of Bristol.

Hannah Bullen-Ryner Art: My ephemeral version of ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ by Johannes Vermeer.

Hannah Bullen-Ryner Art: Two little Warbler’s and a tiny Golden-crowned kinglet. I have always been drawn to circles around my work, it’s like looking into a little window into another world, or a portal, just for a moment. Even though it’s tiny, this piece took quite some time! I made the birds simultaneously, laying their eyes first and then all their beaks, and working my way out from there. I then built the blue pebble mosaic around them. (Tricky because ohh so delicate!) These tiny pebbles were collected by my parents at the beach.. they came to me as a mixed bag of wondrous colours and these are all the beautiful sea-blue tones.

Hannah Bullen-Ryner Art: Seahorse… People question how I can possibly find all these materials, but the answer is really very easy. My work is very, very small. I need very tiny ingredients and I am never not looking. I’m a magpie and have tiny pebbles and things constantly, in every single pocket. I also recycle elements over and over and over again. I store them in half coconut shells that I leave on site and cover with an old fence post. If petals have dried I dunk them in some water until they are workable again. Hopefully this gives you a bit more of an insight.

In the past I’ve struggled to get their sleek form right, but I had extra time today, and I am so pleased with how this turned out! I also had fun smashing up great lumps of chalk to create these tiny fragments, using a bigger, sharper rock, caveman styles.

Hannah Bullen-Ryner Art: Octopus. She’s far from perfect because I made her in just under two hours, and the wind, oh the wind! We had fun Mother Nature and little ol’ me, arranging and rearranging the tentacles. In the end this is our collaborative effort! Made predominantly using flowers *borrowed* from my parents garden, and tiny pebbles and shell fragments picked out from their gravel!

Hannah Bullen-Ryner Art: Male Cardinal. Did I specifically know I was going to make a Cardinal today? No.. Did I gather lots of red things? Also no. Did I therefore have to use every single scrap of red I had hanging around in my coconut bowls? Um yes! I genuinely don’t know why I do this to myself but hey! I love him! Perhaps he came to visit you?

Hannah Bullen-Ryner Art: My first ever ephemeral Swan… I was gifted one orange and three white cut flowers from my local supermarket that had fallen from a display, so I used a few orange petals for the beak and the white petals along some parts of the neck.. everything else is foraged as usual.

Hannah Bullen-Ryner Art: One of my all time favourite birds found here in the UK, the tiny Bluetit. Made here, with a mossy and lichen-y tummy and a sparkle in their eye. Continuing to send out a message of love and hope to all those suffering at the hands of war.

Hannah Bullen-Ryner Art: Today I only had around 45 minutes to make some art so I just free-flowed like I used to, no reference pics, just me and the elements.. and this little fluffy appeared and made me smile..

Hannah Bullen-Ryner Art: Meet my tiny, baby Opossum friend. So cute I really wanted to take her home in my pocket! Thank you for the recommendation to make one of these beautiful souls! While I created her (sitting on the woodland floor) I made friends with a Magpie who got brave enough to come within about two feet of me to collect some yummy pellets I had put down. A family of Long tails chirruped in the branches above, and naturally, my trusty friend the Robin stayed close by keeping me company.

A beautiful, carved art piece utilizing a dead tree breathing in some new life into the old wood. Every inch of which has been carved into an intricate statue, with hundreds of human and animal figures piled on top of each other, in an eternal struggle to reach the top.

BIO (direct translation):

Caiffa Cosimo, aka CHEONE, was born in Gallipoli in the province of Lecce on May 26, 1979; since he was a child he showed a particular interest for drawing and painting. He grow up surrounded by artists and art lovers including an uncle and the father of a friend, a well-known painter from Gallipoli; he often looks at them at work and learns the techniques of painting on canvas from them.

At the age of 8-9 he moved with his family to Germany, where he lived and studied until one day, by chance missing the bus, he noticed in a little hidden street some older boys who were painting on a wall with spray cans; he was immediately fascinated by the technique and colors they used to make their pieces; he stopped to watch them all afternoon.
From that moment he began to approach the culture of writing, starting to make his first lettering; after these he begins to devote himself to the figurative until for personal reasons (a woman) returns to live in Italy, precisely in Nerviano in the province of Milan.
He knows some b-boys, members of crew Quimmoda, a crew from Rho (MI), of which he joins; with them he begins to make himself known throughout the area.
