Calckey is a Fediverse server type which includes lots of features that Mastodon doesn't yet have, such as emoji reactions, markdown, customisable interfaces, widgets and lots more.

To see for yourself, have a look on the official website at:

➡️ https://calckey.org

For the latest updates, follow the official account at:

➡️ @calckey

If you want to try signing up, there's a stable server at:

Meta aka Instagram is working on a Twitter competitor that is rumored to be ActivityPub compatible.

If you run a fediverse instance (Mastodon, Pixelfed, Calckey and others), would you ban a Meta instance?

Boosts appreciated 👍 #fediverse #barcelona #activityPub #meta

Does #ActivityPub have a concept of a geographically tagged post?

I'd like to be able to set a latitude & longitude in such a way that people can discover something in a specific #geolocation.

Anyone know if that's possible - either with the #MastodonAPI or other tool?

Is it federated on the #AT protocol? Or via #ActivityPub / #Fediverse? Last I heard they were doing their own thing.

Would anyone be interested in some free stickers of our logo (Sepia, PeerTube's mascot, riding a bike)? Trying to spread the love for #OpenSource #ActivityPub #PeerTube #Urbanism #BikeTooter #WalkableCities. A small batch just for fun! 😛🚲🎥
urbanists.video logo as a sticker placed on rear fender of bike. The logo is an orange, happy cuttlefish riding a purple bike.

Yes, but that is still not good. Within ActivityPub, one cannot write a *message* that, a priori, is known to be correctly readable by any of the intended recipients -- unless it is a short (< 500 bytes) text in plain ascii, with no italics, boldface, or other markup, and no embedded images... >>

Fully nomadic Mastodon fork!

Someone seems to have succeeded in forking #Mastodon and migrating the fork to #Nomad, the underlying protocol of #Streams which provides #NomadicIdentity. There's little information about what exactly is going on, only a tech demo video exists on PeerTube. It shows two test instances and the exact same account with the exact same identity running on both, remaining fully in sync. So yes, it's nomadic.

The choice of Nomad instead of #Zot is understandable as it has better integrated #ActivityPub support, so there might not be much incompatibility between vanilla Mastodon and the fork, and it'll stay compatible with the rest of the #Fediverse. Compatibility with #Hubzilla and especially (streams) will even be enhanced, not only because the fork finally recognises nomadic channels, but also also because it clearly features text formatting and quotes. It remains to be seen whether the handling of embedded images will be improved, too.

This is still very experimental, and more information has been announced to follow soon.

@zen_xen_ni Ludzie mogą być zainteresowani interakcją z tymi z FB, nie spodziewam się automatycznych blokad, raczej wyjątkowo.

Chyba że FB coś odwali.

To jednak byłby jakiś postęp w "socjalizowaniu" FB.

Ciekawe na jakim etapie z wdrożeniem #activitypub jest Tumbls🤔
@miklo

Content warning: tl;dr: All that cool new stuff you want in the Fediverse already exists in the Fediverse, right outside of Mastodon

@Genders: ♾️, 🟪⬛🟩; Soni L. #ActivityPub. The language which (most of) the #Fediverse speaks.

It is how Mastodon instances talk to other Mastodon instances. And it is how, for example, Pleroma instances talk to Mastodon instances. Or to each other.

@Owner_of_donky No, you cannot, through #ActivityPub . But if the instance provides a #RSS feed, you can try that one.

Oh no indeed, #clearnet torrenting is also completely insecure for anything which could be in any way compromising.

I'm inclined to agree to a point, it would be preferable to have something far closer to a #P2P setup. Unfortunately connectivity issues (end-to-end on my CGNAT? No! - average ISP) & privacy (network analysis & dragnet) on the clearnet make that a bit inconvenient.

At the #ActivityPub level, single-user instances aren't meaningfully different from multi-user.

Towards federated git collaboration

cross-postowane z: https://szmer.info/post/289222
Git was designed as a decentralized version control system from the ground up. Yet it has been subverted by centralizing hosting and collaboration platforms that compete on projects hosting their code on them. Disagreements on where a project should be hosted regularly result in flame wars. But why, since we live in a world of federated services? If the Git hosters would federate, it might not matter on which server a merge request or an issue is filed.

The #gitea issue targeted at adding #activitypub is still open, but it seems to require in-depth architectural changes. So what would be the best bet for a Git hosting platform to be the first in entering the #fediverse?

@Robert "Szkodnix" :misskey:

@evan @darius @miaq Evan, it's such an honor to be building on the standard you helped create. #activitypub has a ton of momentum right now. Count me as a true believer.

Meta: Fediverse

Yes #itWorksLikeEmail but still I really don't understand how #friendica works. For example on this thread https://libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-1163-e510-d442-32c014292555 the original post was sent to 103 remote servers, my friend digit@iviv.hu commented on it. My response to his comment was sent to 24 servers, but my response to my own comment was sent to 105 servers. I suspect him being on Diaspora* and most of my contacts being on platforms like #Mastodon than only support #ActivityPub has an influence here.

If I try to reference the same post from my Masto account, I thought it would look super weird, like I was talking to myself in a way that didn't make any sense, but I actually only see the OP https://hostux.social/@fu@libranet.de/109835482564374801 while when I search for my later comment I see it https://libranet.de/display/0b6b25a8-2063-f7e8-a037-f64709822385 and the comment of my own I was replying to, but not the OP !Friendica Support

@Kokichi (🇵🇱) @m0bi No to na razie takie coś sobie odpuszczają.

Thank you to the developer community of #Friendica @Friendica Developers for keeping up their work on the project!, especially @Michael Vogel @Hypolite Petovan @Fabio and @Philipp Holzer

a heard with the slogan: I Love FreeSoftware - Show your Love

And thank you @mike for founding the project and all the work you put into it. Thank you @Evan Prodromou for identi.ca and your work with @Christine Lemmer-Webber and many others on #activitypub #ilovefs

@alex , Groups were finalized today.

https://gitlab.com/soapbox-pub/soapbox/-/issues/1347

Does that have any bearing on things?

Interesting in hearing your perspective on why/why-not and your thoughts on moving forward on it, when it's the right time, etc.

Stellar job on events, BTW 👍

It would sure be nice if you implemented this before mastopub.

There's going to come a day when the last person turns off their code using #activitypub . Everything comes to an end eventually.

But when that day comes, hopefully decades from now, it will be 100% that person's choice.

I'm proud of everyone who made sure that would be the case. ✊🏼

@Shelenn Ayres @Cătălin Petrescu It should be a practical discussion and not an ideological or emotional, like "feelings of person X" is hurt by the dislike button". That's to much emotional about it. Remember when #Youtube took down the dislike feature? Some people didn't like it that they got so much dislikes on their view. This practically means they cannot take negative critics and don't want to improve themselves. MrPetovan has deleted my comment there where I have pointed this out, that only softies will cry about receiving/seeing dislike features. Real people won't do that, they just deactivate it (and that change was introduced already by him) or ignore it. I ignore the dislike button as long as I don't want to click it. Ripping out features from a software is bad for the software, plus it is part of #ActivityPub .

From the #ActivityPub spec, it seems like servers must know your social graph as an inherent part of the protocol. Is this correct?

I'm writing a privacy-centric social media app that hides your social graph, and I'd like to adapt it to AP but that seems impossible. Possible approaches include:

a) embed an AP server in the client app to do the AP server role (is this realistic?)

b) continue with my own protocol and build a bridge to AP

Any other ideas? All thoughts welcome!

#ActivityPub Plugin for #WordPress v.0.15.0 is now live.

Changelog:

* Enable ActivityPub only for users that can publish_posts
* Persist only public Activities
* Fix remote-delete

I have been largely keeping out of the debate about #fediverse “governance”. As someone who has participated in OSS governance systems I see the value of them and I do think a #fediverse foundation could be a good idea. More importantly I think now that the overall #activitypub system is being used so much more there will be a need to revise and extend the protocol and for that we will need @w3c activity (workshop / working group).

this has to be one of the most under-stated introductions I have seen here!

So let me offer a better one: Evan is one of the reasons we are all here. He is credited as one of the creators of the #ActivityPub protocol:
https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/

Back in the day (a decade ago), he also used to run the biggest instance of #StatusNet, identi.ca. My old account is still there, even though I have lost access to it:
https://identi.ca/rysiek

StatusNet was the precursor of fedi.

Welcome, Evan!

Watching your posts for a long time, I now understand why you just had to co-invent the #ActivityPub protocol that made this sector of the Fediverse happen. You just had a lotta stuff to say to and ask us about 😀

Shoutout to all the #activityPub developers that are dealing with this huge influx of people!

I have the unique privilege of running the only non-mastodon instance (https://pixelfed.social) among the top 20 most popular #fediverse instances.

Doing my best to keep it running smoothly, and also ship bug fixes, new features and the mobile apps 😅

I interviewed @evan about creating #ActivityPub, his complicated feelings about Mastodon, and opportunities for #developers in the #fediverse. Needless to say, he has some excellent ideas for the fedi-future, so I do hope you read it. https://thenewstack.io/the-creator-of-activitypub-on-whats-next-for-the-fediverse/

Can anyone direct me to a comprehensive explanation of how/what posts show up on a an instance's federated timeline?

Particularly, I'm referring to an #Akkoma instance, but I wonder if the mechanism is similar for all #ActivityPub servers.

#Admin #MastoAdmin #MastodonAdmin #FediAdmin #Pleroma

@utzer ~Friendica~ I’m not sure if we can do that with #ActivityPub, I’m not even sure it’s desirable. What’s the need?

Two years ago, for #APconf, I gave a talk about the #ActivityPub ecosystem that was really a talk about the kind of social software infrastructure I think we we need.

In particular, I talk about software infrastructure under our control that optimizes for rich and fulfilling lives.

It's a real broad vision, but I think it might be interesting for people on the network today to watch.

If I had the hubris of wanting to distribute my single-user node posts through an #ActivityPub relay, is there a way to subscribe write-only? Same question for read-only?

⚠️PLEASE BOOST⚠️ Do you want a better Internet? Help the people who make it happen!

@cwebber co-authored #ActivityPub, the protocol that makes Mastodon happen. It's what allows different Fediverse instances to talk to each other, preventing another Elon Musk from happening.

Now she's building @spritelyinst, a FOSS distributed programming platform. The mission: social media done right.

Help her build a better Internet! #DonateFriday https://spritely.institute/
