UN calls for return of Russia-abducted Ukrainian children in US-backed vote

The #US supported the resolution, while #Russia , #Belarus and #Iran have voted against it. Fifty-seven countries, including #China, #India and #Brazil, #abstained from voting.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, #Ukraine has identified over 19,500 #children who were illegally transferred to Russia, Belarus, or Russian-occupied territories. Fewer than 1,300 have been brought back.

"There will be no just #peace in Ukraine without the unconditional return of #UkrainianChildren. This resolution is not about politics. It is about humanity," Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa said at the U.N. General Assembly debate.

If Russia does not face a firm response from the #US. and #EU, Russian President Vladimir #Putin will continue "#escalate #escalating," having more actions to disrupt and paralyse the West.

Over the last few weeks, #drones have #violated the #airspace of at least eight #European countries. The wave began with 19 drones crossing into #Polish territory in early September.

This was the precise instant when YouTube Music employees became aware that we had lost our jobs, as we were addressing the City Council.

In the upcoming #US #presidential #election, Biden and Trump are on the #ballot. Both may have cognitive limitations, but let's not beat around the bush – some question Trump's mental sharpness too. So, let's play a round of "Top #Trumps" to compare who's more fit for the job.

#Russia 's information warfare in the #US didn't stop after Trump was elected. And US social network giants have failed to address it in the last 4 years. Partly because they directly benefit from content engagement, partly because as centralized platforms with billions of users, they naturally offer a bigger incentive to spread misinformation than any effort they are willing to mount to fight it.

The real solution, of course, is breaking the system into human-sized parts, through #decentralization. Even the biggest english-speaking #Fediverse instance has only 400,000 users, which makes it a mediocre target for misinformation with no opportunity for paid reach towards the nearly 3 million #Fediverse users.
