I finally pulled the trigger and bought a second-hand copy of the #LEGO 71411 The Mighty Bowser set. And at almost 3,000 parts, it’s a hefty chonker. On the plus side, his eyes and eyebrows are posable, for delightfully silly effects. On the minus side, without the by-bag sorting of a new set, the paper instructions have a terrible color palette and I made several color errors during the build, which made me think I was missing more parts than I actually did.

In the end, the set looks pretty close from the original #Nintendo subject and my main issue will be to find a spot in my apartment for this large and rather heavy model.

The main pain point in my #LEGO hobby process is drying the parts of the sets I sell or store. So much so that I finally bought a $100 Williams-Sonoma exclusive salad spinner with a stainless steel basket suitable for “microgreens” and, I assume, the smallest LEGO parts.

Please like and subscribe for the upcoming unboxing video, followed by a demo and later a tips and tricks segment.

#LEGO people, I want to commission a #MOC of a real-world vehicle, however I’m not sure where to turn to ask. I thought I could message the designers of previous MOCs I bought on Rebrickable, but the website policies forbid soliciting work from users.

I don’t have the direct contact of these designers, and I’m running out of ideas. Is there a centralized platform where LEGO designers can be commissioned to create specific MOCs I wouldn’t know about?

Reshare welcome!

I've not talked about my #LEGO hobby for a while, but yesterday I received my 1000th feedback from buyers and sellers on Bricklink. This earned me a little purple brick next to my pseudonym anywhere it is displayed on the site.

It would probably be more significant if I still had any interest in participating in the community, notwithstanding I have been eyeing the number recently creeping up towards this artificial milestone.

I know it's in an uncomprehensible language (#Hungarian) but this is

The #Unboxing Video Of The Year™

The guy is unboxing #LEGO packages and realise on live that the Hungarian State Post have #stolen most of the contents from the boxes. (And he will never get his money back.)

And the police seems no problem with the "boxless but unopened" stuffz on the online marketplaces.

Priceless. Or the opposite.

The world of second-hand #LEGO sellers is very diverse. You have the opportunists eager to make a quick buck, the meticulous hobbyists, the small brick and mortars business owners… And then there’s this tucked into a package.
A small piece of paper on a desk reads “Thank you for ordering from Hanger (sic) 18, which features bricks shipped from Roswell, NM, the UFO capital of the world. As a token of our appreciation, please enjoy this custom micro-scale build of a genuine UFO.” Next to the text, a one-step one-part LEGO instruction shows a small gray dish. Next to the paper on the desk, here is the expected small gray dish part.

Reminder that #LEGO custom-prints the inside flap of its shipping boxes to apologize for not custom-printing the outside panels.
A cardboard box flap reads “Why are LEGO® Shop Boxes so plain?
You might have noticed that our shipping boxes are not quite as colorful and exciting as our toys. There's a good reason for that - many people order gifts for others from LEGO Shop. By keeping our boxes plain, we help gift givers keep their secrets!”

How to separate a LEGO Projectile Launcher Rapid Six Shooter

Since I was sent fully-assembled #LEGO projectile launcher rapid six shooter (18587/18588) with the wrong color trigger for my use, I looked up how to separate both parts.

Thankfully this conundrum has been solved using a custom rig in 2016 by Brickbuilder0937 over on the Eurobricks forum.

Me: I love the standardization of #LEGO that allows me to easily find replacement parts for incomplete sets!
Also me: *enjoys purchasing the most unique lots like individually stickered parts and rare color elements*

A few years in my #LEGO hobby, I’ve now built hundreds of sets from all themes and years. I picked some of them, but most were found at random and restored from loose parts bins I purchased off classifieds.

So it’s rare when I’m truly amazed by a specific model, but I’ve been impressed by the 70614 Ninjago Lightning Jet set from 2017. The model is extremely voluminous for the number of parts, with an original friction wheel system activated by a finger trigger.

Pictures don’t do it justice, so here’s a short animation demonstrating the rotating wheel in action. (~10 MB)

I finally did it, I confused two shipping labels and shipped the wrong #LEGO order to two of my buyers. 😰

I contacted them both, issued partial refunds and they agreed to ship each other’s package using new shipping labels I paid for, and now I’m waiting for them to do the actual shipping.

I don’t do well sitting on my hands, having done everything I could, relying on strangers to right my wrong. 😣

I sincerely hope a bright and bushy-tailed tech bro showed up at #LEGO and pitched generative #AI to replace or "help" in any part of the set design process and was promptly laughed out of the building.

#LEGO #MOC (My Own Creation) theft is when a LEGO knockoff manufacturer will just "appropriate" an independent designer's MOC manual and part list and create a boxed set out of it, even using the original designer's model pictures as cover art.

Seen on Rebrickable, a popular MOC website:

To some Chinese MOC thieves, please do not directly sell my instructions without my permission, I have added some politically sensitive words to them. If you sell it, you will have an incorrect political stand for your government because you support Taiwan's independence.

🌊 Miniature octopuses, scuba tanks, life rafts, flippers, sharks and some very rare green dragons are still washing ashore along the Cornwall coast today, 25 years after a container of Lego was washed off the deck of a cargo ship.

This #LEGO bin will be the end of me. It was relatively cheap for the volume, but it contains more than 100 sets identified through stickered parts or assemblies, but no minifigures in sight which will probably make completing some sets challenging. And this persisting index finger pain...
A living room with two large plastic bins that used to contains the LEGO collection of someone on its way to college. One bin is still half-full of loose parts, a few dozens of plastic bags labeled by LEGO set are lined up on the floor, while several plastic containers containing parts sorted by type are crammed on a coffee table.

I’m unhappy to report that I’m starting to get low-level pain in my right index finger when I part #LEGO assemblies or use the Switch Joy-Con controller for too long.

This sign of aging doesn’t bode well for either activities as I’m not sure I can do anything about it except limit my time.

Fun find of the day, a picture I took in my living room of a #LEGO MOC I collected the parts for and built ended up on a Russian Aliexpress product page: https://aliexpress.ru/item/1005004334919236.html

Since I won't be able to show you this week pictures of the finished #LEGO Mad Max models I designed, how about some renders?
A LEGO model render of the Mad Max: Fury Road vehicle nicknamed "Buick". It's a highly modified 1948 Buick Special 4-door Sedan with dually tractor wheels in the back, a heavy duty wheel kit in the front and a cut in the front of the hood to allow for a massive air filter. It also sports an anti-aircraft gun on a slew-ring turret on the roof. A LEGO model of the Mad Max: Fury Road vehicle named "BigFoot". It's a Dodge Fargo 1940 pickup truck sandblasted body on a monster truck chassis with a harpoon gun and a flamethrower mounted on the roof.
A LEGO model render of the Mad Max: Fury Road vehicle nicknamed "Caltrop #5". It's a 1972 Cadillac Eldorado which body is covered in black pitch and lifted at the back while the frame itself stays level. It sports a machine gun mounted on the windshield and two seats with original dark red upholstery at the back for additional gunners.
#LEGO

#LEGO update: Mad Max: Fury Road vehicles are visually striking, pretty well-documented without access to the actual movie and based on real cars, which makes them ideal candidates for my style of design.

See, it’s too hard for me to create a model from scratch, thankfully I don’t have to since people have been creating models for the stock cars that were modified for use in the movie.

I then recreate the model in Studio based on the instructions that I purchase on Rebrickable for around $5, and I start altering the design to match the Mad Max look, not unlike the actual process the movie production had to go through.

Hopefully I should have tangible results to show in a few days when I receive the remaining parts I need to build the first two models I designed this way.

I've received a notifications that one of my #LEGO packages was successfully delivered in Australia, and this place still doesn't feel real to me, even if I visited it twice.

There are many things I didn't expect before I started handling large quantities of second-hand #LEGO, but the grossest has to be how much stranger's hair I have to deal with on a regular basis.

LEGO The Fifth Element Taxi MOC

Tonight I finished building my largest #LEGO #MOC in terms of number of parts (2100+) and it's a model from a movie that's dear to my 14-year old heart, The Fifth Element (1997). I watched it so many time dubbed in French that I was disappointed when I first heard Bruce Willis' actual voice, much softer than the French voice actor's.

The model itself is sizeable and sturdy, with a detailed interior and intricate body curves. The roof is appropriately busted through and the bottom is fully detailed even though it's quite hard to see when the model rest on its accompanying stand.

The instructions aren't cheap, but they are almost 300 pages long with nearly 600 steps to accommodate the number of parts. A separate PDF can be printed on sticker paper to add the final visual touches to this model.

Finally, the parts, they cost me about US $160 to buy the parts I didn't have from my own collection, so count about US $200-250 starting from scratch. There are a few elements that are somewhat rare, but the rest is available and cheap.

For this year's April's Fool prank, #LEGO sent a mystery set to a handful of LEGO Ambassadors (bloggers, youtubers) where the instructions didn't end up matching the box art.

I’ve never been that much of a collector before I started restoring #LEGO sets from bulk bins, and I can see why. Most of a collector’s time is spent sifting through tons of ordinary stuff in search of a rare find, I’m now realizing.

Looks like I will have to fill US Tax Code Schedule C form with my regular filings from now on because I'm collecting a lot of money with my #LEGO hobby. How exciting! I get to play self-employed accounting while not staking my livelihood on it!

@sigridellis Here you go! I restore #LEGO sets from second-hand bins and I recently sold a couple Harry Potter sets I randomly found. I feel a little icky making any sort of money out of this franchise so I've been donating the proceeds to trans charities like this one.

In the last #LEGO bin I sorted, there were a few Harry Potter sets that I've restored and put for sale. I've been feeling icky making any kind of money out of them so I've started donating the proceeds to transgender charities. It isn't that much (US$90 total if all the sets sell) but it is something. After the first sale I've also started indicating this intent in the lot description on my online store fronts, hopefully it will deter bigots.
