Exactly two years ago, we started to post links on #Mastodon via our account @heiseonline 👇

https://mastodon.social/@heiseonline/109314036284496776

It took longer, than I expected, but here we are: it seems like this account now brings continuously more #traffic to heise.de than #X (#Twitter) in its entirety, although it only has ¼ of the follower number (and many of them don't seem to be active anymore).
I'll prepare some graphs after the weekend.

Vorerst ist das hier der offizielle Mastodon-Account von heise online.
Wird jetzt erst einmal händisch befüllt, aber wir haben schon weitergehende Pläne und wollen hier mehr machen.

To the newcomers

"Life is neither static nor unchanging. With no individuality, there can be no change, no adaptation and, in an inherently changing world, any species unable to adapt is also doomed."

Jean M. Auel

No place is perfect, adapt and enjoy with time you will establish your network.

I keep saying journalists should leave Twitter and use Mastodon, which is better for them in every way. At TechDirt I've posted a somewhat lengthy why-and-how: https://www.techdirt.com/2023/01/04/journalists-and-others-should-leave-twitter-heres-how-they-can-get-started/

#journalism #twitterexodus
Summary: Elon Musk has demonstrated contempt for free speech in general, and journalism in particular, with his behavior at Twitter. He is also demonstrating why it is foolhardy for anyone to rely on centralized platforms to create and distribute vital information. Journalists — among many information providers and users — should move to decentralized systems where they have control of what they say and how they distribute it. And philanthropic organizations have a major role to play. Here is a way forward.

Can't stop thinking about this person who made the distinction on TikTok between old school social media for being in touch with your friends and making new ones, and "performative" social media where the point is to reach people you don't know.
I think some of the friction between OG mastodonians and the #twitterExodus is that the former were trying to recreate old school, but the latter are coming for performative and angry that it's not built for that

Same experience here. I started to see similar bunches of threads since 2-3 days ago in my stream. These were composed of people expressing outrage or indignation about a "Mastodon purity police" discouraging freelance artists from advertising or selling their wares on Mastodon.

No context on where the original exchange occurred or who was discouraging the advertisement or sale of said artwork. I did surmise that this must be due to the recent #TwitterExodus 🤷‍♂️🐦

Jokes and snark aside. With #Twitter banning links to any other social network now, the window for using tools like https://fedifinder.glitch.me and https://www.movetodon.org is closing rapidly. Better run them again in the coming days to find any stragglers.

This is apparently the tweet that led to my suspension from Twitter. Right as I was reinstated they announced a new policy that they apparently found me to have retroactively violated

Earlier today Elon Musk said that my ban was temporary, 45 min later he denied my appeal to reinstate my account and confirmed that I am *permanently* banned. The email I just received says the decision cannot be reversed.
I have never once violated Twitters rules or terms of service. I’ve never had a single tweet flagged, my account was permanently banned with no warning and with no reason, after I reached out to Musk for comment.
