Don’t know. I will find out I guess. This lives on a tiny server running #Pleroma. I really like #Soapbox front end, @alex has done an amazing job. I am still learning a lot everyday, 🙂

The part I like about hosting my own server is the freedom and flexibility. I can ‘watch the world go by’ from my own instance. Follow whoever I want to follow.

How about setting up your own instance on a server such as #Vultr and use a lightweight app such as #Pleroma and use a skin such as #Soapbox to administer it?

It's nice that #Mastodon is getting all this new attention. Just wanted to remind everyone that there's more than just Mastodon on the Fediverse.

I wanted to setup a single-user instance on the Fediverse, but did not want to deal with the involved Mastodon install (which I've done a while ago). I found Soapbox with Rebased as the back-end and used that. The setup was super simple, it runs well on a low resource machine and the UI is fantastic.

Last I checked, it was a #SoapBox frontend (pretty fricken' kewl), but no web access (WTF is sup wit dat, bitches?), And so I was unable to create an account.

And although there was an #Apple 🍎 app, no such #Android beast.

Is that correct? And what kind of goofy logic is that where you can only access the site if you have an #iPhone?

I suppose i would have tried to use #Fedilab, i would suppose, but you need to already have an account to do that.

I know I'm not "missing out" on anything, but What am I missing here?

I mean, we have "right to oblivion" in EU, and also someone can feel own content as disposable after some months. (For example bot and API)

Of course all the software is still approaching their goals at varying speeds, but they're honestly largely complete. If you left the software alone for five years it'd all probably be fine.

hello, there is something that i don't understand regarding the #soapbox . soapbox-fe is located in opt/pleroma/instance/static, and there i can see only few folders, but when i clone it from the gitlab, there are a bunch of other folders, and i cant find any of them on my server. so, how can i update the soapbox-fe with the changes that i did in app/soapbox/components/sidebar-navigation.tsx thanks @alex

Yeah that's a #Mastodon limitation

#SoapboxFE is designed to be adaptable to #Mastodon. For example, use it with a #Mastodon instance and you can see trending hashtags, trending posts, and recommend users to follow, which are all #Mastodon features, but if you use it with a #Soapbox instance, you won't be able to use or see those features

The #Soapbox website also suggests #Namecheap to users, which is a CF’d registrar who shares your identity & domains with #Cloudflare even if you /buy/ whois privacy (indeed you have to pay extra for whois privacy & then they leak the info anyway). Then to top it all off, the s/w repo is jailed on another Cloudflare site: #Gitlab. WTF.

Do you mean enter the public key (ETH wallet addy) into the #Soapbox-FE pwd field?

#Mitra itself asks (requires, like you said) you to sign with say, MetaMask, but you're presumably (hopefully) not suggesting that someone paste a private key anywhere.

Regardless, and no matter how you stack it up, Soapbox-FE is a totally rockin' UI.

My testing with #soapbox was short lived. If I add a soapbox URL in pixelfed search, I get an error occurred, results could not be loaded but if I try mastodon URL, no problem each time.

Maybe #pixelfed is just not compatible? Is soapbox the same as #pleroma the way it handles URL? Anything to check @alex@gleasonator.com?

Well, hardly anybody knows what #Mastodon is, and a good chunk of them don't know what #Pleroma is, and more people know what #Pleroma is than what #Soapbox is, do it actually doesn't surprise me too much. It's pretty sad tho.

Slight complaint about the new #Soapbox @alex but how come the menu slides from the left to the right if the button to open the menu is on the right? Shouldn't it make the menu appear on the right?

Ah interesting. It seems that fe.soapbox.pub works just by redirecting the homepage to fe.soapbox.pub/auth/external. Any instance on the dev branch can also let you log in with an account from another instance using the same nomenclature (see social.teci.world/auth/external)
