The "search" field is magical: it can look up remote users or services, too!
For example one can follow a #writefreely #blog by searching for the "user" it's publishing on, like @globally-echoing-notes
It works because that service offers an AP compatible protocol.
There are no #public posts. 🥺
Posts are sent only to the people following you (plus your local server community which may be a few people or a lot, it depends on where you are), nobody else.
People wanting to follow you cannot see your old posts either.
The system is basically "subscribers only", that's "federation".
I don't want to see impressions and engagement rates here. I don't want to care how much "reach" I have.
The most valuable analytics for me, in this space, are the conversations in my Mentions column.
Boh!
Danke

Followers and mentions are the obvious answer, but anything beyond that is additional load on the network and servers, which becomes more and more important as the number of users and messages grows.

On my side, Mastodon threads are rarely complete unless the last post of the thread was shared with me, or they were each individually interacted with. It didn't have to be like this!

Integrate Mastodon in Friendica?
How can I integrate Mastodon into my Friendica instance (post and fetch)?
Friendica (Mexico-Pensante.Blog) should be my primary platform.
Best, Robert
Gab auch eine Diskussion dazu auf Gitlab oder -hub, da hatten sich viele beschwert, aber der Entwickler wollte es lieber so

This is because most Fediverse servers don't "backfill" new profiles, i.e. if no one followed them at the time a post was made then their post will not be visible from other servers, even if people follow them later. Followers of new users will only see posts made after they follow them, and the oldest posts will remain invisible.
You can see all of a profile's public posts by clicking on the profile's avatar to open it on its home server.
You can also force any post to become visible from your server too by copying the post's public URL and pasting it into the search box on your server.
(If you think this is crazy, and you'd like Mastodon to automatically backfill posts when people follow an account, please give a thumbs up to the issue at https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/34 so that the developers realise you want this.)

Here are their answers:
"share funny memes, interact with (most) who interact with you, be gay, and you too can become a niche micro internet celebrity"
"Hate computer, post funnies, simple as"
"post cock pics. No, post ball pics"
"post memes"
"Meta, post meta."
"Hmmmm It think that by having presence.
Like certainty of your personality
Like no one can be
[REDACTED]Or no one else could be or post like
[REDACTED]People that are memorable are the people that get most follows"
"Cumposting"
And what do these all have in common? The word POST. That's right the best and ultimate way to get the most out of the fediverse is to post and post lots.
The more you post the more likely people will find you and engage with you. So goodluck and get your e-clout

The goal of #Mastodon was, appeal to old ex #Twitter users. Success.
#Pleroma, appeal to nerds. Success.
#Soapbox, appeal to new ex #Twitter users. Success.
Of course all the software is still approaching their goals at varying speeds, but they're honestly largely complete. If you left the software alone for five years it'd all probably be fine.
For the time being don't install #mastodon at all! Regardless of who sends the link. Avoid any sites or guides telling you how to setup a mastodon instance.Tell your friend to avoid mastodon and look at non-compromised #fediverse alternatives. #FediTips

If a website ever leads you to a #github, #gitlab, or #gitea repository immediately close your browser and run your anti-virus.
Git is a malware that makes a copy of your files and code and lists them on these repositories without your consent!! Named and created after the infamous hacking group GitYourCode.
If you want a legitimate copy of #mastodon you can find installation instructions on the official site here: https://joinmastodon.org/

Remote-follow stopped working
I normally can like/repeat comments from #Mastodon but now I get a blank page on my Friendica instance. So this is what I did:
1) I normally follow a user on Mastodon, but currently I don't see any of his posts or comments (maybe related?).
2) So my "backup" method is that I go to the comment's URL, e.g. https://social.snopyta.org/@kromonos/108483904376408153 and click "Favorite" there
3) Then I enter my id
roland@f.haeder.net and normally that comment is being transferred to my instance4) But now I get a blank page, e.g. https://f.haeder.net/follow?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsocial.snopyta.org%2Fusers%2Fkromonos%2Fstatuses%2F108483904376408153
Any quick ideas? Or should I better on an issue?
You can mute that particular conversation thread so that you don't get any more notifications about it.
On the Mastodon web interface, go to one of your posts in the conversation and click "...", then select "Mute Conversation".
(You can cancel this by doing the same thing again and picking "Unmute Conversation")

If I use the bbc element "abstract", I can simulate the content warning for Mastodon. But this only works for text. If it is a post with an image, the image is not hidden. With Mastodon the image is hidden for CW posts and marked with a NSFW warning. Is there any way I can simulate this on Friendica?

Das habe ich auch noch nicht gefunden und würde mich auch interessieren.
Ich glaube bei #mastodon funktioniert sowas auch nicht und man kann nur Nutzer in Listen "stecken" ähnlich wie hier Gruppieren
