“RAME” by RICE and Flow Creacions for the outdoors arts festival Temps de Flors in Girona, Spain.

Temps de Flors is a temporary outdoors exhibition held in may. For a couple of weeks art and flowers fill the squares and streets of the city of Girona. This exhibition is held since 1954.

RICE: This piece was made by the patients from the Mental Health Rehabilitation Center from Girona, for the outdoors arts festival Girona Temps de Flors. I taught some stencil lessons to them so they could make the piece by themselves, and the final result was great!

Ramé is a word from Balinese origin, and it means “something chaotic and beautiful at the same time”, just like life. Ramé is something which shakes you and wakes you up, it’s the kind of push you get when you open your wings and dare to fly, to live.

Flow Creacions: From the very beginning, I thought it was a beautiful project, a very good idea for the Blog SRC del Gironès-PlaEstany organization, they only needed the floral part and the technique of how to apply it. It has been a pleasure and a great satisfaction to have been able to take part in the “Rame” project.

Vhils does not paint over a surface so much as excavate it. The portrait and branch-like textures feel embedded in the building’s own history, as if the wall had been carrying this image the whole time.

💡 Urban Nerd Fact: Vhils’ whole method comes from seeing city walls as archives. On his official bio, he explains that growing up around Lisbon’s rapid redevelopment made him notice how walls absorb social and historical change, which is why he removes layers instead of adding them: he treats the surface like urban memory.

This is such a smart little reality hack. (fos) takes an ordinary lamp and exaggerates its glow into a bold geometric beam, making the entire storefront look like it has been switched from normal life into a graphic novel.

💡 Design Nerd Fact: “(fos)” was both the collective’s name and the title of its first installation, and the word itself means “light” in Greek and “melted” in Catalan. Even better, the Madrid piece was temporary — the facade only stayed “lit” for four days and nights.

⚪ Circle and Series of Shards — By Felice Varini in Vercorin, Switzerland 🇨🇭

Felice Varini is one of the great magicians of perspective. From the right viewpoint the village clicks into a perfect graphic composition, and from almost anywhere else it falls apart into fragments again.

💡 Process Nerd Fact: Varini often maps these works by projecting the geometry onto the site at night with a powerful projector and tracing it with his team. Muraleslian: For centuries, the women of Ondarroa managed the most important activities of village life. This mural is a tribute to many of those women.

The weaver, methodical and austere is an archetype that refuses to submit, she is living memory. When she weaves, she weaves something more than what we see with the naked eye.

The net’s creation is individual and collective identity… and we already know that collective identity is impossible without memory, it must be maintained by memory. To remember is to make visible, to claim, to repair. And as a weaver in Ondarroa said not long ago: “you have to fix things, you have to dignify them”.

The nets she and many others weave are networks that hold and maintain the community together. In between the threads arise woven tales through which lived stories are narrated.

Sometimes the practice of a trade leads to introspection, silence and remembrance, and other times it leads to words, solidarity and the search for solutions to common problems. When the activity is publicly exposed (when it is practised outdoors), the ability to transmit, the desire to share experience and the importance of the processes are made public.

This mural is also, in part, a legacy in the practice of sharing. Its anchored in this town, in this neighbourhood – as a contribution to the exercise of memory: meticulous hands of women, hands of woman past and present, THE HANDS OF MANY IN THIS TOWN, creating reality and at the same time eroding old archetypes based on oblivion and invisibilization.

It is an invitation to continue threading the true legacy of all those who have not ceased to weave/create/concoct, that is: let us continue to weave together!…

2. “SANTA ÁGUEDA” by Albert Bonet at Plaça Mercat, Spain.

Presenting a remarkable mural by artist Albert Bonet, who takes pride in creating this masterpiece in the town where he grew up, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Ajuntament de Riba-roja d’Ebre gave Albert complete artistic freedom and trusting with this project.

Weeks after winning the #TokyoTowerArtFair, Albert Bonet painted this mural in the streets of Riba-rojà (Spain), the town that witnessed his birth and growth as an artist.

The mural is inspired by Francisco de Goya’s “La Maja Desnuda” but contextualized with the face of actress Asia Ortega and infused with Pop-Art touches. Bonet dedicates the mural to their patron saint, Santa Agda, creating a captivating fusion of classical inspiration and contemporary flair.

3. Street art by La rouille in Pavilly, France.

“Cours et ne te retourne pas…” (Run and don’t look back…) in Pavilly (France) for Festival d’art dans le paysage.

La Rouille, which translates to “The Rust” in English, is a French street artist known for his distinctive style. Rexenera Fest: Alba Fabre tends to construct poetic narratives from an open and inconclusive point of view. His work, located on Avenida da Milagrosa, introduces us to the intimacy of an anonymous couple, in a moment of union in which different ideas are whispered in a veiled way, deconstructing certain roles of classical art and bringing them to our contemporaneity.

Male fragility, vulnerability, and sensitivity contrast with the strength and wholeness of the female figure, while their bodies merge to form a delicate, powerful image under a quick, precise brushstroke.

A Mother’s Love

Titled, “A Mother’s Love” and part of a project called Deconstruction in Torrelavega, Spain.

The local culture group Asociación Cultural Octubre de Torrelavega set this up as part of a larger art installation in order to raise awareness about the importance of gender equality.

On of my favorite anecdote : a kid was inside the blockhaus where I have painted a big elephant (7 meter high) and then his father was calling him and he answer “wait dad, I’m inside the elephant, I’m coming !”. Well, it is very rewarding to provoke that kind of poetry, to help kids or people to reconnected themselves with little small thing that make souls and desires happy or filled. – näutil

Djoels: A few months ago, I enrolled in a sort of selection round to be able to do a mural in the Basque Country. Out of the (more than) 400 applications, 2 artists were chosen: one artist from Gran Canaria and Djoels. We were given a 13-meter-high by 8-meter-wide wall to work on. For 5 days, we were given a tour, information, and the opportunity to get to know the town. It’s a harbor town surrounded by mountains, slightly bigger than Egem but with a similar mentality. Everyone knows everyone, and stories spread quickly. People take care of each other, and history is kept alive.

Gabriel, my model, a retired kind man with a characterful gaze, stood out to me the most. He spent his life at sea, months away from home catching fish. I heard thrilling stories, including those of women and children who stayed on the mainland, fearing whether their father would return safely. Now he makes miniature boats. A true artist!

Every day, I ate fish, learned how to clean and prepare fresh fish. I walked in the harbor and then in the mountains. I tasted the food they made on the boats when they were away from home for months, sometimes with only 3 ingredients. And yet, it was delicious!

For two weeks, I lived like most people here, adopting a sort of integrated intermittent fasting, taking siestas, and enjoying pintxos (local tapas). I quickly adapted to the lifestyle here, but I still miss my home, my dog, and my loved one immensely!

I think after reading this, the work speaks for itself. Now, I just need to enjoy Bilbao a little longer, and then I’ll head back home on Saturday, towards my steak with fries and the West Flemish language.

Art collective (fos)

(fos) is the name of the first temporary installation of the interdisciplinary team (fos). It means light in Greek and melted in Catalan. This project is represented by a skin that covers both vertical and horizontal surfaces. The protected facade of the vegan restaurant Rayen on Lope de Vega Street in Madrid was lit for 4 days and nights by more than 250 lm of yellow tape, painted decorative items, pineapple and … a lamp. A visual play between perspective and colored volumes.

Case Maclaim: I believe the actual beauty of fairy tales is that it is up to our imagination how the character looks and moves and that version is not really up to debate, as it is just like a fingerprint, very unique and personal. With this mural in the old, historical city center of Madrid I wanted to try a different approach. So I gave the viewer a new character of a yet unknown fairy tale. I have high hopes that it will encourage specially the young audience to come up with their very own story, in which the lead is a confident, black child in a golden wheelchair and in a self-made mermaid costume.

5 years of work to complete this masterpiece

Marcoguoli: This property called “The guitar of trees” is located in the extreme south of the province of Córdoba, 20 km north of General Levalle. The idea of ​​creating this drawing visible from the air was conceived by Graciela Yraizoz. But due to her premature death, it was her husband Pedro Ureta who carried out the work in the late ’70s. The park is 25 hectares, 2,500 meters long and 400 meters wide. It is made up of pine, California cypress, pineapple cypress and medicinal eucalyptus.

It took Pedro Ureta and his employees 5 years of work to complete this masterpiece, starting from little plants between 15 and 25 cm 🌿. Pedro passed away on September 19, 2019, when he was 79 years old. The ranch is still under the care of his children Ignacio, María Julia, Soledad and Ezequiel.

The characteristic form of the stay can be appreciated only from the air, but by contacting the official blog estancialaguitarra.blogspot.com you may be able to book a visit within the premises.

Isaac Cordal is a sculpture artist from Galicia. His sculptures take the form of little people sculpted from concrete in ‘real’ situations. Cordal manages to capture a lot of emotion in his vignettes, in spite oftheir lack of detail or colour. He is sympathetic toward his little people and we empathise with their situations, their leisure time, their waiting for buses and their more tragic moments such as accidental death, suicide or family funerals.

His sculptures can be found in gutters, on top of buildings, on top of bus shelters – in many unusual and unlikely places in the capital.
