Hi guys,
I just experienced a wierd issue with image federation to #Mastodon.
This post contains 50Mpix image that never federates from #Friendica to Mastodon. Snac and Pleroma does not try to cache the image, so #federation to them works.
Shouldn't be thumbnail federated instead of full size image? Is this bug of Friendica or Mastodon?
I'm on 2024.12 so far, Yuno did not updated packages yet.

Just noticed the new friendica version has been released 😀. See https://github.com/friendica/friendica/releases/tag/2026.01
For u3a.social I'll be doing an upgrade on a test instance as soon as I can and then plan for the live upgrade (I'll also want to switch to native rather than docker database).
The nice thing about test upgrades is you get to test your backups !

@Wilhelm thanks... somehow I kept missing things on Pleroma. The reason I switched to Pleroma originally was to play around, but then when my Friendica @utzer@social.yl.ms burned I was stuck on #Pleroma... also looked at Mastodon, but it just isn't checking all requirements I have. So I am back to Friendica and now Docker. I need to improve the setup, but I think it works quite fine like it is for now.
I love the "stay local" function, don't know why that is not a thing on Pleroma and the really reliable search for post URLs is such an underrated feature. Pleroma has this as well, but often it just doesn't work. Same is the search for users by handle, love #Friendica there too.
So far, the #Friendica update has a noticeable impact! Not perfect, but it cuts many load times in half. Going from 30-60 seconds to 15-30 is quite the progress.

#Friendica just dropped an important update that pre-generates the content of channels - considering that the home feed is itself a channel (and can easily take over a minute to load sometimes) this might well make Friendica finally becomes properly usable in #SelfHosting hardware. Time to test!

Wie genau funktioniert das mit den Content Warnings eigentlich genau in Friendica? Ich weiß das Mastodon lange das Abstract dafür missbraucht hat, gibt es da inzwischen eine bessere Lösung? Hintergrund ist das ich zwar den NSFW Hashtag nutzen könnte, aber der eben alles verbirgt und nicht erlaubt dem User Informationen zu geben was da verborgen wird.

ich habe den Bluesky Connector auf meiner Instanz aktiviert. Von Zeit zu Zeit passiert es, das einer meiner Bluesky Beiträge geteilt wird. Davon bekomme ich wieder und wieder eine Benachrichtigung. Wenn ich die Benachrichtigung als "gelesen" markiere, bekomme ich kurz darauf wieder die gleiche Benachrichtigung. Die einzige Möglichkeit das zu unterbinden besteht darin, den Beitrag auf Bluesky zu löschen.

on Masto & Sharkey instances, if the Admins are willing, it is technically possible to add FOSS emojis to the servers. consequently, on many of my instances i've been able to include these in various posts when applicable:

Das ist für mich deswegen interessant, weil ich gerne Beiträge von den Usern anschaue, bevor ich die Kontaktanfragen genehmige. I am the admin of my #friendica instance,I registered an additional account . But when I go to switch to my secondary account, it automatically switches back to the primary account .
A few months ago everything was working fine, then suddenly I had this problem, I thought it was an account issue and deleted it. But it always happens to me

Odpowiedź brzmi - to zależy. Od tego z jakiego oprogramowania (a nawet jego wersji) korzysta twój serwer. Z tego co mi wiadomo, mastodon.com.pl powinien już umieć w cytowanie czyiś postów, ale nie wiem czy fragment też można tak zacytować. Tu jest chyba więcej na ten temat: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/quote-posts/ . Ja pisze w serwera #friendica, który pozwala na bardziej rozbudowane formatowanie tekstu, natomiast czy i jak to formatowanie pokaże serwer odbiorcy to też inna sprawa.
Ich hab heute mal für #Friendica ein #Ansible Playbook gebaut, das sollte alles bereitstellen um eine lauffähige Friendica Instanz zu bekommen.

Mastodon character limit is such a weird concept and useless and pointless I can't believe is still there. People who want to say more than a paragraph need to split it into "threads"...insane!

If you have no character limit, guess what, you can still make short posts. But not vice-versa.
It is beyond me why this is still a thing in 2025. Artificial limitations.
Man I LOVE Friendica! A proper way to make posts and interact with people. And yet not many are aware of Friendica and how awesome it is.
@Meredith Whittaker you should either move to a Mastodon instance without character limitation or try Friendca. You can even use our node https://social.trom.tf - and that's for anyone else who is bothered by this artificial limitation of Mastodon.

Ich denke, es ist mal wieder so weit, sich eine Runde auf #Diaspora umzusehen. Ich bin nicht #neuHier in dem Sinne. Früher war ich mal auf geraspora.de unterwegs …
Eigentlich bin ich zurzeit bei #Friendica zu Hause, in letzter Zeit aber mehr und mehr inaktiv. Ich glaube, das ist mir dort zurzeit zu viel: zu viele Beiträge, zu viele Leute, denen man folgen will, zu wenig Zeit, sich alles durchzulesen oder zu kommentieren, was man will. Deswegen bin ich wieder hier. Ich möchte ein bisschen mehr #Ruhe, mehr #Zeit.
Ich werde mich hier also erst einmal einrichten und schauen, dass sich mein Stream ein wenig füllt. Macht’s gut.
