*I guess it depends on how long have you been to a certain Friendica server, not sure if posts are displayed if you moved your account to a different server for less than a year before. I'm also not sure if this depends on a certain plugin, or if it's a baked-in functionality.

Astronomer Vera Rubin was born #OTD in 1928.

Her work on galactic rotation curves became one of the main pieces of evidence for the existence of dark matter, and she deserved a Nobel Prize for it.

Black and white photo of a young Vera Rubin – likely in her teens or twenties – looking through the eyepiece of a long telescope. She wears a blouse or dress with short sleeves and a grid print. Her wavy hair is shoulder length, and there is a wall behind her composed of two-by-fours and wood boards. Her right hand touches the eyepiece, and her left hand is turning a small adjustment knob on the side of the telescope.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the last time humans went to the Moon.

Color photo of the lunar lander returning to the orbiter above the Moon's surface. A color photo of the Apollo 17 lunar rover. The sun is just outside the frame, causing long shadows and substantial optical artifacts. An astronaut in the distance is seen in profile. The rover has a large radio dish mounted on the back.
One of the Apollo 17 astronauts standing with the rose. Their visor is a reflective gold color, while copper-colored foil wraps many of the components of the rover. A large, umbrella-like radio dish is mounted on the from of the rover. A large gray hill rises in the background. A color photo of Earth taken by the Apollo 17 astronauts. The arc of the planet cuts down the middle of the photo, with part of Earth occupying the left-hand side of the frame. There is a great deal of swirling white cloud cover over blue oceans and brown land masses. Madagascar is visible, as well as parts of Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

#art/#history: there's always a great woman behind a great man & this proves true for betty davis (born #otd in 1945). she introduced miles davis to psychedelia (& hendrix!), but she also wrote & recorded 3 of the ballsiest funk fusion LPs you'll ever hear - if you can find 'em.
life with miles wasn't easy (he accused betty of having an affair with jimi hendrix, which really pissed her off. it was a lie & betty found it astoundingly disrespectful to both her & to jimi); so their union, though creative, didn't last.
enigmatic to the end (ms davis laid low between 1975 & 2009), betty was the subject of a documentary ('they say i'm different', 2017). she died a bit of a human puzzle just this past february.

‘kiss me & you will see how important i am.’

sylvia plath (born #otd in 1932) was the first one to teach me that it’s quite okay not to be okay - & i’m not alone under her pedagogy.
since my first prepubescent brush with ‘the bell jar’, i’ve lived by its imparted wisdom - most especially: ‘if you expect nothing from somebody, you are never disappointed' - a credo for life that's much more optimistic than it first appears to be.
