Calling out #ReclaimTheNet for #hypocrisy. They claim to “defend free speech and individual liberty” from a Tor-hostile website that proxies through #Cloudflare (the oppressor who we need to reclaim the net *from*!)

Please, tell your friends to stop relying on CloudFlare.

Why?

1) It's an intercepting proxy. All traffic is logged and shared (sold) to third parties - mainly the feds,

2) CF can inject a malicious payload,

3) CF adds unnecessary captcha to, inc but not limited to, privacy-aware visitors (VPN, TOR), or block them completely,

4) the internet is basically unusable with CF blocking browser addons,

5) If CF goes down, your website will go down, too. And yes, it does happen.

#fuck #cloudflare

So we are being sent to a #Cloudflare site to get coached on #privacy. #W3C only demonstrates need for being schooled on privacy themselves.

Anyone behind a #PrivacyMatters #EthicalWeb advocacy only demonstrates #hypocrisy or ignorance by simultaneously using a Cloudflare site that is configured to block the Tor community.

You get bonus hypocrisy points for telling privacy proponents to “get involved” by using MS #github.

Did a web search on GDPR lawyers in a given city. Only one apparently relevant result led to a law office specializing in #GDPR. And that website was a tor-blocking #Cloudflare site.

Then I searched for a #humanRights lawyer.

1st hit: tor-hostile website

2nd hit: tor-reachable website but lawyer’s email address resolves to #Google.

I’m not joking… can’t make this stuff up. Society is drowning in #hypocrisy but no one sees it because most people don’t know how to look for it.

Perhaps we need tools to make it easy for normies to be more informed. Tools exist but they are for advanced users.

If you’re concerned about username & password being shared, you should certainly avoid both #Fosstodon & #LemmyWorld. They are both centralized in #Cloudflare so your acct creds are exposed to Cloudflare Inc. every time you login, along with all your traffic.

Most common websites have one of:

- "We care your #privacy"
- No mention of Cloudflare in privacy policy
- Saying "we do not log"
- Endorsing other Cloudflare site as #ethical product

yet they still use #Cloudflare , completely contradicting their statement.

Don't be like them,. Don't fool or lie to your visitor.
Start hosting your #website properly.

The original #internet is not designed for #centralization.

@admin :heart_cyber:
"Our actual, live servers are encrypted, in that the hard drives are encrypted at rest."

And do you inform people that you use #cloudflare proxy ?
Because if effectively some corpo can read all the decrypted data on the way between the browser and the server, then the encryption of the server's drives doesn't matter at all and people's privacy is de facto given over to #cloudflare.
If anyone does not know what cloudflare is, it is a must read: https://notabug.org/dCF/deCloudflare/src/master/readme/en.md

@Notes from Poland
You can add on your profile "We do not guarantee that our website will be available to you - decisions are made by #cloudflare ". Shame on you ...

@Thomas Voland 🇹🇭🇵🇱 Dziekuję, ale już dzisiaj przekroczyłem limit cierpliwości na #captcha od #cloudflare na stronach które otwieram... Życzę dalszych sukcesów w centralizacji internetu.

How can you call yourself “@PrivacyDigest” if you’re going to put your account in the privacy-abusing walled-garden of #Cloudflare? #hypocrisy

Let me be as blunt as I can. #CloudFlare wants to own the entire Internet. Everything they do, however cool and good it may seem, is in service of that goal.

They're well on their way, seeing as they're being used by more than 20% of the entire web already.

All of this is legal and "Good Capitalism™".

What can you do?

1/2

Ah yes. Typical @dsfgs type rhetoric. “Everything is bad” they type using technology that DEFINITELY wasn’t made using slave labor, to post on a DEFINITELY carbon-neutral internet, while wearing clothes that were DEFINITELY made in a sweat shop with DEFINITELY ethically sourced materials, before eating a meal that DEFINITELY wasn’t created using exploitative labor or includes harmful ingredients.

Seeing y’all pretend to be better than everyone else because you don’t use #Cloudflare is richer than #BillGates.

The #Soapbox website also suggests #Namecheap to users, which is a CF’d registrar who shares your identity & domains with #Cloudflare even if you /buy/ whois privacy (indeed you have to pay extra for whois privacy & then they leak the info anyway). Then to top it all off, the s/w repo is jailed on another Cloudflare site: #Gitlab. WTF.

#Soapbox is a #Cloudflare site that asks for money “to support our mission to make decentralized social media the new standard and protect users from the abuses of Big Tech.” Yikes. Cloudflare sites are the opposite of decentralized & they surreptitiously feed you (& your private DMs) to “Big Tech”. Thus @soapbox@gleasonator.com is not “sexy”. #hypocrisy

@switchingsoftware A project with a privacy mission that tries to get people to use a #Cloudflare service has an inherent integrity & trust problem.
