A member of Street Art Utopia on Facebook wrote three year ago this nice piece about the future:

– My son, do you want to hear something strange?
– Yes! What?
– You know the new tree painting we did on the garage last week.. Up until around the year 2050 people generally did not have paintings on houses!
– What? Were they grey?
– Well, yes, many were. Often they would paint villas in One colour, like blue or yellow, but very rarely in more than one or two colours and almost never any pictures. Most apartment houses and government buildings and so on were grey. Artists sometimes went and painted on tunnels, grey municipal buildings and so on, but the pictures were washed away! By the government!
– Was art forbidden?
– Well no, but it had to be in special buildings only. Some people felt that houses was not to be painted on, except in one pale colour all over.
– Wow.. How dull.
– Yes, my son. Now lets get our jackets and go pick some fruit.

Tom Wild Sketch in French: Un mur que nous avions préparé il y a un bon moment avec Limpassequi avait pour volonté d implanter l’art urbain au sein de sa ville. En grapillant des espaces autour de l’impasse noel verlaque depuis des années, le regard des riverains change sur la peinture, de la crainte à l appropriation, la rue devient une étape touristique de la ville. Puis la situation se débloque avec cette nouvelle initiative de festival et de plus grandes surfaces s’offrent à nous mais le tetal était parti vivre de l autre côté de la planète entre temps. Nous avons pour habitude de créer des univers fantastiques donc pour la seyne sur mer nous avions choisi de mêler marine et aviation dans un port/chantier naval au milieu des nuages ou se croisent embarcations de tout âges et de toutes cultures. Merci et bravo La Seyne-sur-Mer Officiel et madame la maire d’avoir concrétisé cette édition 2022 et un grand câlin à tous les riverains qui nous ont manifesté ce bon vieux sentiment d’amour.

Bitter is a lost taste, even though bitterness is delicious and cures

Mona Caron: Gentiana Lutea – studding the landscape here in the highs of the Jura mountains, standing tall in the rolling meadows like little flagpoles marking the spots where you can dig for its magic and prized bitter root, a key ingredient of many vermouths, liqueurs, firewaters, syrups and tinctures, here in the homeland of Absinthe.

Bitter is a lost taste, even though bitterness is delicious and cures. Addiction to the sweet has narrowed the spectrum of pleasures that palates can enjoy, keeping many from healthy habits.

So I offer this bitter-rooted wildflower, a field weed as metaphor of resilience through the strength we gain by daring something feared, perhaps uncomfortably new but actually ancient, unearthing both medicine and pleasure which nature has been beckoning us towards all along. Follow the golden-flowered beacon.

They was like enormous rock virgin and at my 14 years old, we started, me and friends, to graff on it, to be proud or ashamed if it was not enough inventive or nice, well it’s like someone who started to learn walking among other who are too, it was fun, interesting, challenging and poetical too. – näutil

On of my favorite anecdote : a kid was inside the blockhaus where I have painted a big elephant (7 meter high) and then his father was calling him and he answer “wait dad, I’m inside the elephant, I’m coming !”. Well, it is very rewarding to provoke that kind of poetry, to help kids or people to reconnected themselves with little small thing that make souls and desires happy or filled. – näutil

In their first art intervention in the city of Barcelona,PichiAvohas painted a mural in the facade of the student residence Livensa Living Diagonal Alto of Temprano Capital Partners, designed by the Portuguese architect José Quintela da Fonseca. The artistic duo has designed a mural that shows a very particular version of Pallas Athena’s sculpture in the Austrian Parliament, in Vienna.

About Fin DAC: Hailing from Cork (Eire), Fin DAC has lived the majority of his life in London (England). He is self-taught with influences ranging from dark graphic novels to Francis Bacon.

In a relatively short urban art career he has ploughed a singular path in defining an atypical paint/stencil style that ignores the accepted visual language of street art almost completely. He prefers the term ‘urban aesthetic’ to ‘street artist’.

Djoels: A few months ago, I enrolled in a sort of selection round to be able to do a mural in the Basque Country. Out of the (more than) 400 applications, 2 artists were chosen: one artist from Gran Canaria and Djoels. We were given a 13-meter-high by 8-meter-wide wall to work on. For 5 days, we were given a tour, information, and the opportunity to get to know the town. It’s a harbor town surrounded by mountains, slightly bigger than Egem but with a similar mentality. Everyone knows everyone, and stories spread quickly. People take care of each other, and history is kept alive.

Gabriel, my model, a retired kind man with a characterful gaze, stood out to me the most. He spent his life at sea, months away from home catching fish. I heard thrilling stories, including those of women and children who stayed on the mainland, fearing whether their father would return safely. Now he makes miniature boats. A true artist!

Every day, I ate fish, learned how to clean and prepare fresh fish. I walked in the harbor and then in the mountains. I tasted the food they made on the boats when they were away from home for months, sometimes with only 3 ingredients. And yet, it was delicious!

For two weeks, I lived like most people here, adopting a sort of integrated intermittent fasting, taking siestas, and enjoying pintxos (local tapas). I quickly adapted to the lifestyle here, but I still miss my home, my dog, and my loved one immensely!

I think after reading this, the work speaks for itself. Now, I just need to enjoy Bilbao a little longer, and then I’ll head back home on Saturday, towards my steak with fries and the West Flemish language.

(fos) is the name of the first temporary installation of the interdisciplinary team (fos). It means light in Greek and melted in Catalan. This project is represented by a skin that covers both vertical and horizontal surfaces. The protected facade of the vegan restaurant Rayen on Lope de Vega Street in Madrid was lit for 4 days and nights by more than 250 lm of yellow tape, painted decorative items, pineapple and … a lamp. A visual play between perspective and colored volumes.

Muralist Alegria del Prado

White Siberian Tiger Mural by Alegria del Prado with the help of Octavio Alegria in Balashikha, Russia for International Mural Festival.

Alegria del Prado: My work is based on the use of animals and plants as symbols. This time, I researched the fauna that can be found in Russia and chose the Siberian tiger, which, to my taste, may somehow represent the Russian people because of its strength and beauty. It doesn’t really have a literal explanation of the elements that might appear in the image, I think the animals themselves are already expressing emotions and ideas to those who contemplate them.

International Mural Festival: This is a collaboration of two artists – Octavio Alegria from Mexico and Esther del Prado from Spain. They have been working together since 2010. In their work, they mainly create dream worlds, calling for harmony between nature and the modern world. Interestingly, to create this mural, Octavio did not use any projector or markup. How did he do it, let’s keep it a secret.

Ali Zakir: “It was on Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan. We decided to make something pleasant for the residents of the city. Previously, children were always drawn, as they are our future. Here they wanted to show the sun and a boy in a blue T-shirt – the colors of our flag, which mean a bright future.”

“Originally, we were into graffiti, and we were always interested in doing something big. Somewhere in 2010, we started painting murals for our own money. Then they started calling us to different cities. To date, we have already created about 30 paintings: in Almaty, Nur-Sultan, Kostanay, Karaganda, Taldykorgan, Atyrau and Aktau.”

Näutil: I am forwarding a project that I’ve released these days, made with paint and graffiti bomb on 3D pattern, the basic idea was to revitalize an abandoned place full of history: a world war 2 blockhaus, collapsed, almost lying on its side. At first it was about to humanize this place with some poetry: before, the eye of the soldiers were watching the dead coming from the sea, and now there is this big blue eye, looking at the life and moves coming from waves movements, talks and answers, interactions of two creations coming from man and nature… And then also I’ve wanted to point out the damage that may make human at some sites (into the pupil, the silhouette of the nuclear power plant from La Hague).

Case Maclaim: I believe the actual beauty of fairy tales is that it is up to our imagination how the character looks and moves and that version is not really up to debate, as it is just like a fingerprint, very unique and personal. With this mural in the old, historical city center of Madrid I wanted to try a different approach. So I gave the viewer a new character of a yet unknown fairy tale. I have high hopes that it will encourage specially the young audience to come up with their very own story, in which the lead is a confident, black child in a golden wheelchair and in a self-made mermaid costume.

BIO: LOONEY is a contemporary graffiti artist active in the art scene since 1995. Co-founder of the first tri-city graffiti artist collaborative (DSC). In 2008 he graduated from the Graphic Design and Painting Faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. His work predominantly consists of murals and canvas paintings. Native to street art, his technique is a combination of spray paint, stencils and brush paint. His work has been showcased in individual and collective exhibitions in Poland and abroad. A selection of his work has been published in many art magazines, among others : “Dos Dedos”, “Concrete Magazine”, “Ślizg”, “Brain Damage”. An active participant in many local events, graffiti and street art festivals.

About Fin DAC: Hailing from Cork (Eire), Fin DAC has lived the majority of his life in London (England). He is self-taught with influences ranging from dark graphic novels to Francis Bacon.
