@steve mookie kong Counterpoint: Allowing the network to turn into islands of instances (which it already is) is a core feature of decentralization. Unlike in centralized networks, nobody is entitled to the attention of the whole #Fediverse, and it’s better this way.

The important part is that this fragmentation should be transparent, with each instance publishing the list of instances they are defederated from, which is the case at least for Mastodon and Friendica.

Can we please stop throwing around the threat of defederation?

Defederation shouldn't happen unless an instance is a cesspool full of terrible behavior with an admin unwilling to deal with it.

Annoyances like spam can be dealt with by admins without scorching the Earth and going nuclear.

Lets not turn the #Fediverse, where instances are supposed to be part of a larger collection, into islands of instances that have cut themselves off from others because of annoyances.

The coolest thing about #Fediverse & #Mastodon user numbers (a topic of much discussion in the tech media) is that for those of us here, if we're enjoying the interactions (I know I am) and feeling like it's a 'better place', it will continue to attract others to join in.

Jak widzę produkujesz różne formy: dłuższe słowo pisane, słowo mówione, video - wszystkie one mają swoje federacyjne narzędzia publikacji. Jednej nawet już używasz 😀 -strona #wordpress po dodaniu jednego prostego plugina staje się pełnoprawną częścią federacji czyli (m.in.) pozwala subskrybować , podawać dalej wpisy na innych platformach, w tym mastodona. You know from websites, if there is a link or an embedded element that guides you to another website, there is a note telling you that you load external stuff or you are led to another website.

I think it would be a good addon or feature, if all projects in the #fediverse #friendica #mastodon #pleroma #hubzilla #misskey would start to mark such links especially to facebook, instagram, tiktok, twitter, google and so on with a warn sign, that your data will be collected and you will be definitely tracked.

I am writing this because there is an increasing number of people posting on such networks and spamming the fediverse with links and urls teasing the contents on those networks that you only can see on those networks.

How do you think about that?

Dear @Gargron,

Please reevaluate your decision to incentivise centralisation on mastodon.social in the official app.

This is the sort of design a VC-funded startup would implement, not a non-profit acting in the interests of a healthy commons.

I’m sure you don’t want mastodon.social to become mini-Twitter and you don’t want to become mini-Musk.

That’s not how we win this.

More instances, not larger instances is the key.
