I joined mastodon today because the CEO of #tumblr had a complete meltdown recently when people called him out for deleting a trans woman's blog because she posted a transition timeline. The vibes were definitely off, just doesn't feel like a safe place right now. I'd love to follow more #trans and #queer folks on here! This is my second social media account (third if you count myspace. omg should I go back to myspace??) so I need all the help I can get with navigating this place.

I wish more people would fight for #Podcasting the same way people are fighting for the #Fediverse.

#Meta, #Tumblr, et al, are saying that they're joining the Fediverse (I'll believe it when I see it) and everyone is trying to figure out how best to deal with that.

Meanwhile, #Spotify and #YouTube have already #EEE #Podcasts by adding music podcasts that don't sync to #RSS feeds and not providing #VideoPodcasts with RSS feeds at all. No one is batting an eyelash about that!

!Friendica Support Is it a known issue that contacts coming from #pixelfed or #tumblr can't be added to groups? I am pretty sure it worked before at least for pixelfed which essentially also ist "just activitypub"?😶

!Friendica Support If I quote-share a post coming from #Tumblr or #Diaspora on Friendica, I learnt that some platforms (Mastodon, Misskey, ...) aren't able to display this as expected. In Friendica, I see a preview image of the post, which is what I would expect:

Looking at this from Mastodon, it looks slightly less usable but at least there's still something:

On Misskey, as has been reported (can't reproduce as I don't have or want an account there), it seems the post is empty.

Hubzilla is where it looks best:

This is kind of a mess. It seems similar for Diaspoar posts. What can be done, or who's responsible to handle that right, from a standards perspective? Is there any way to be reasonably sure posts look at least usable on all federated platforms?

"Tumblr will add support for ActivityPub, the open, decentralized social networking protocol that today is powering social networking software like Twitter alternative Mastodon, the Instagram-like Pixelfed, video streaming service PeerTube, and others."

#disapora* and #tumblr come up in my mind as alternatives, in a world without AP or statusnet.

My team at work just launched new research on the #TwitterMigration: We analyze which platforms are growing - especially #Mastodon, #Tumblr & #Post.

We look at which sites users are adding to their Twitter bios, posting to their friends about & downloading apps for.

Please do boost this, and love to hear any comments or feedback on it!

The flow of Twitter Users Stating New Accounts on Emerging Social Networks

Big rumblings in the expansion of the #Fediverse have been happening recently.

#Tumblr has already promised to implement #ActivityPub (the protocol Mastodon uses), which will mean you can follow Tumblr accounts from here and vice versa. And today we a learning that #Flickr is also considering it!

This will be a massive expansion, which obviously carries some uncertainties, but I, for one, welcome our new federation partners.

This is the way the internet is supposed to work.
