OK, I'll bite. How does playing with chatbots destroy the planet?
I suggest that if you want to know anything, go to a good library and do some research..
The electricity to run these gadgets are astronomical

I've read that AI web searches consume 10xmore than classic Google algorithms. I have no source, but you can guess it is within this kind of range.
Google just acquired "mini" nuclear reactors...

AI could be used to tackle useful tasks for humanity, but we use it to amuse ourselves, cheat at school, don't forget military use of course, replace workers, etc etc.

Generally speaking, useless internet gadgets, especially online video are a disaster in terms of energy, and water ressources to cool down the machines.

AI seems to accelerate the tragedy

Not more of a disaster than crypto miners. In contrast to that crap the AI bots are at least kind of useful…
Pascal has covered the main argument already. Once a large language model has been trained, you can indeed run it locally with little power consumption, but the largest environmental impact is indeed its training. As Pascal said, there could be uses for these models (although I cannot think of one that is really, really needed) but in general people are just playing with them.
