UN calls for return of Russia-abducted Ukrainian children in US-backed vote

The #US supported the resolution, while #Russia , #Belarus and #Iran have voted against it. Fifty-seven countries, including #China, #India and #Brazil, #abstained from voting.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, #Ukraine has identified over 19,500 #children who were illegally transferred to Russia, Belarus, or Russian-occupied territories. Fewer than 1,300 have been brought back.

"There will be no just #peace in Ukraine without the unconditional return of #UkrainianChildren. This resolution is not about politics. It is about humanity," Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa said at the U.N. General Assembly debate.

Russia declares #HumanRightsWatch an 'undesirable organization'

“Our work hasn’t changed, but what’s changed, dramatically, is the [Russian] government’s full-throttled embrace of #dictatorial policies, its staggering rise in #repression, and the scope of the #WarCrimes its forces are committing in #Ukraine,” said Philippe Bolopion, executive director at Human Rights Watch.

The designation under #Russia's controversial "undesirable organizations" law prohibits groups from operating within Russia and makes it a criminal offense for individuals to participate in their activities. The law has been widely criticized by #HumanRights advocates.

The “humanitarian city” Israel’s defence minister has proposed building on the ruins of #Rafah would be a concentration camp, and forcing #Palestinians inside would be #ethnic #cleansing, Israel’s former prime minister - Ehud #Olmert has told the Guardian.

#Israel was already committing #WarCrimes in #Gaza and the #WestBank, Olmert said, and construction of the camp would mark an escalation.

“It is a #ConcentrationCamp. I am sorry,” he said, when asked about the plans laid out by Israel Katz last week. Once inside, Palestinians would not be allowed to leave, except to go to other countries, Katz said.
