Feedback on WIP?

Mit dem #Frio #Theme und den Erscheinungsbild #Bookface werden Links und Hashtags erst blau wenn ich auf den Beitrag tippe. Ist das normal?

Redundant Engagement Counts?

Diagram of redundant and mismatched engagement counts

How would people feel about a future version of Bookface removing the engagement counts from the Action Button? Now that the response info is reduced to an icon and a number the count on the Action Button with the same icon is redundant and makes the UI unnecessarily cluttered.

I know since the beginning of Bookface some people have found the engagement counts on the buttons too "busy" or "distracting" but before I remove them I thought I'd ask how people feel about that?

I don't know if anyone else has noticed it, but sometimes the engagement counts and responses don't agree. I *think* this is because the engagement counts are subtracting your own interactions? So in the screenshot above it's not counting my 2 comments and not counting my "Like" on the buttons, but is counting them in the response totals. Getting rid of the counts on the buttons would eliminate this inconsistency.

Thoughts?

Bookface User Styles?

Out of curiosity, how many people are actually still using the Bookface user styles version? That's where your Friendica server does not have the Bookface scheme installed so you either load it in a userContent.css or using a browser add-on/extension.

While it's how this whole Bookface project got started, the server-side version has been pretty widely adopted so if nobody is using the user styles anymore I'd really like to stop updating them. They're kind of a pain because by necessity they have to be different from the server-side styles to override everything, and it takes quite a while to test and tweak them so they render with the same appearance as the light and dark server-side versions. Or as close as I can get, since they rely on the underlying "frio" scheme setting.

Again, I'm not talking about the server-side stylesheets, I'm talking about the user content stylesheets.

Hello Again!

I'm the dev that created the "Bookface" schemes for the Friendica "Frio" theme. I know I've been taking a long time to answer some people's questions and feedback. That's because for weeks I've only occasionally been able to log into my main account on friendica.world. Today it seems that server has become completely inaccessible. 😭

As that server is down I couldn't just migrate my account, so I've set up a new account here at dillyofapickle.com. If you were friended to me over there you'll need to send me a request here. But I also moved here because @Kevin has embraced my projects for his server and is running newer versions than most other servers I could find. And I kind of need to see it in action for real, not just on my dev server.

I guess for the foreseeable future updates to my Friendica projects will be posted from this account.

Proposed Restyling of Verified Checkmarks

!Friendica Support

The verified checkmark on Friendica is literally just a Unicode checkmark after the homepage URL. These should be restyled to be more prominent. Here are my proposals:

Proposed restyling of Verified Checkmarks on Friendica

Round Style is like how they look on Bluesky.

Sharp Seal Style is similar to Facebook.

Rounded Seal Style is similar to Twitter/X

I'm also showing each of them with three different checkmark styles:

A. Existing Unicode checkmark

B. Alternate Unicode checkmark

C. Icon Font checkmark

There is also an Issue on the GitLab project for this:

I'm considering changing the engagement details below posts and comments now that Bookface shows icons for them. The current appearance is a vertical list, which can leave a lot of unused space to the right of it, plus all the explanatory text feels redundant and visually cluttering to me:

Current Bookface engagement counts in vertical list with descriptions.

So I'm considering eliminating the explanatory text and going with a horizontal list of just names (for single interactions) and counts (that trigger the pop-over list) like this:

Proposed engagement list with mix of names and counts in horizontal list.

But that got me to an option with just icons and counts, which is similar to how Facebook and Misskey/Sharkey show reactions/engagements:

Proposed engagement with icons and counts in horizontal list

Which is what I'd prefer as it looks the cleanest and most consistent.

Thoughts on this proposed change? (I really wish Friendica had polls for this sort of thing!)

Bookface Version 1.7 Release

Postbox Add-Ons for Friendica

#Friendica people! I think #Bookface is getting close to another release. So let me know if there is anything you've noticed that should be tweaked or fixed for the next major version. If I can, of course. Bookface is just CSS and I can only style what's already there in the "Frio" theme.

I’ve been playing with #Friendica, running in web mobile mode with #Bookface UI.

If this app ever gets a dedicated mobile client, it’s likely to become the next breakout #SocialWeb platform. It really does offer most of what you want in a #Facebook-like service.

Events? It has that. Groups? It has that too. The only thing that’s actually missing is a marketplace feature. However, someone could probably build that too.

However, once a mobile app is made, I have no doubt we’ll see lots of adoption.

!Friendica Support the #bookface effort is continuing to evolve nicely. Version 1.3 has been released: https://gitlab.com/randompenguin/bookface/-/releases/1.3

All work done by @Kristi H. so big thanks 🙏 🚀
