• Mastodon started in 2016. By that time, Friendica was already 6 years old and the original creator had already left the project 4 years before to work on RedMatrix/Hubzilla.
  
• Mastodon does one thing (micro-blogging) and does it well, Friendica does many things but often very confusingly. The real shining point is the wide protocol support, but this is a niche feature not many users really need.
  
• Mastodon benefitted from wide mainstream media coverage from at least 2017, although the tone has been mixed. Initially praised as the "new hot thing" by The Verge, it's also been criticized, often unfairly, but even bad publicity is publicity. In comparison, Friendica is virtually unknown and we are currently making no efforts to change this.

If i click on the Link to original post i can see the post but with a weird address line: Montag via Montag

Advanced #Friendica settings

...can be found in /static/defaults.config.php. Some of them are really useful, e.g. 'local_search' => true, blocks access to search for anonymous users so crawlers don't thrash your server. To apply them you need to copy the settings with values you want into your /config/local.config.php.

This is more for those using #Friendica, but I welcome any input.

What is your mobile app of choice to use with Friendica, that offers the best user experience, in your opinion? I am looking primarily at Android clients.

I feel as if I have downloaded them all, but I have not fully settled on one yet.

Perhaps @Hypolite Petovan would offer us his insight on this, too. . .

I want to move all attachments and phots ot the database, but it doesn't work.

I do:

bin/console storage move

And then I just get a fault:

Database storage failed to insert data

What is wrong, how can I find out?

On friendica.utzer.de I got 4000 items in the queue, some of them date back to 16th Feb.

How can I check why these items are still in the queue and not processed? I had briefly upgraded to PHP8, maybe this is the reason, but how can I check what is going on?

I tried to move some stuff from filesystem to database with:

bin/console storage move -n 50

[Error] Der Datenbankspeicher konnte keine Daten einfügen

and in the log I see only this:

Anyone got any idea what this means? #Friendica current stable version.

I deleted about 90 users, which gave me 180000 tasks in the queue. Didn't think about that before, but that will take a few hours now.

Just to report back. Since the update to 2021.01 I don't have to restart php constantly any more. #Friendica is faster and makes more fun than ever.

Houston we have a problem!

Today I created a test user to try if my Twitter connector is working (fun thing, it is working on the second attempt to connect, on the first it was read only).

Now after the test was finished I deleted the user via the /remove me function, I entered the password and pressed the button there. Now the user is still shown in /admin/users and it can't be deleted by me (the admin).

However the user shows up in /admin/users/deleted and it says will be deleted. So it seems it is only a cosmetic thing. Also I have the option (trash can button) to delete other users.

I don't care in that particular case, but it seems something there is b0rken.

Can the #Friendica nickname be changed?

In /help I see:

Nickname

A nickname is used to generate web addresses for many of your personal pages, and is also treated like an email address when establishing communications with others. Due to the way that the nickname is used, it has some limitations. It must contain only US-ASCII text characters and numbers, and must also start with a text character. It also must be unique on this system. This is used in many places to identify your account, and once set it cannot be changed.

So this is still correct, right?

Strange preview in one of my posts.

After I saw the preview I edited the post, on one hand to see if the post really contained a link to the previewed page, on the other hand because it contained a misspelled word.

After editing I saw this:

The square is an empty iframe it seems:

Also something seems wrong with the cookies we use, so soon it seems these cookies will be blocked, then staying logged in will not be possible anymore... maybe...
