I’ve never been that much of a collector before I started restoring #LEGO sets from bulk bins, and I can see why. Most of a collector’s time is spent sifting through tons of ordinary stuff in search of a rare find, I’m now realizing.

@sigridellis Here you go! I restore #LEGO sets from second-hand bins and I recently sold a couple Harry Potter sets I randomly found. I feel a little icky making any sort of money out of this franchise so I've been donating the proceeds to trans charities like this one.

In the last #LEGO bin I sorted, there were a few Harry Potter sets that I've restored and put for sale. I've been feeling icky making any kind of money out of them so I've started donating the proceeds to transgender charities. It isn't that much (US$90 total if all the sets sell) but it is something. After the first sale I've also started indicating this intent in the lot description on my online store fronts, hopefully it will deter bigots.

I've been eyeing some of the #LEGO sets geared toward adults (like the floral arrangements or the modular buildings), but have managed to hold off because I don't have anywhere in my home to display them, and don't need more Stuff.

But then, when I was talking to a coworker yesterday, I noticed he had two of the LEGO succulent sets on his windowsill, and I realized: I'm a therapist. I have an office that could use some tasteful decor.

That might be the crack in the dike...

As part of my #LEGO business, I've had to deal with AFO/FPO addresses. These special addresses are meant to obscure the actual location of overseas members of the US military while still affording them to receive mail and packages. However, one of the storefront I use reported the user placed the order using an IP address located in Germany. 🫣

So much for secrecy!

Earlier this year, I bought a fairly large #LEGO bin from a single mom for $50. I recently sold a train set that was part of the bin that I completed for a few tens of dollars for a whopping $122. I felt bad about originally paying so little for the bin, so I contacted her again and sent her $100.

This came about shortly after I picked up another bin last week in a Tribeca penthouse for $200. I thought it wasn't fair that rich people would be able to better price their lots while poor people would be taken advantage of wanting to make a quick buck for their belongings.

Absolute boss move from #LEGO back in 2006 to start producing actual minifigure-sized planes that barely fit in any regular-sized bedroom. This one is from 2013, and the most recent large plane set was released in 2020.

For me, the newly-released Thor's Hammer set is everything that can go wrong with #LEGO :

  • Brown and grey,
  • Repetitive build,
  • Design limited by a 3rd party license.


I don't need to have seen any Ninjago, Legends of Chima or even Monkey Kid media to enjoy the sets that came out of these themes. But who would be interested by this set without having read/watched Marvel's Thor in action?

LEGO clogging
A short update on my #LEGO activity. I’ve finally built most sets of the last prolific bin, and I’m completely running out of shelf or storage space. I was hoping to sell more sets to offset the arrival of new builds, but it’s been disappointing.

I have been busy though. I’ve received a flurry of orders since the start of the year, but mostly for minifigures, loose parts and lately instructions that I finally inventoried and put for sale.

This is a disappointing setback, I went on a buying spree in January and I still have 4 bins stashed under my bed. With this storage clogging I feel like I’ll be sleeping on them for longer than I expected.

On the hand, my kid has been enjoying the widest selection of sets to play with since I started this, so not everything is bleak!

We've had several unsorted #LEGO bins in the house for a couple months after our November Craigslist spree, so my partner moved them to under-bed storage bags to make space. This means we're now literally sleeping over piles of bricks like treasure-hoarding dragons.

I've got my most expensive order in my #LEGO store ever: $225 of bricks! It's a nice payday, but it also required a lot of work over more than three days to part out the three sets, clean all the parts, check the inventory and bag them. Still glad I'm not doing this for a living.
