New episode of Nimbus & Campanule on MakerTube!

I can't believe this series is from 2022.
It seems like a century ago with so many things happening both in my life and *gesture vaguely at everything*.

And you get to see me before my coming out, cross-dressing for the 1st time.
But "it's just because it's funnier with a male character."
Sure.

"A Field Guide to Decent Humans", by artist and author Charles van Sandwyk (2018)

The image features a bespectacled crow wearing a red scarf, sitting in a nest alongside miniature books.

hey, i’m #newhere. i’m interested in #art, #cinema, #fic, #music, #radio and #writing, as well as just generally divesting myself of algorithms and overuse of genAI. looking for some recs for honestly anything, films, books, albums, gardening tools,,,

coming over from tumblr (well. using in conjunction bc theyve locked the doors and wont let me out) so hopefully shouldnt be too slack on the tagging system but nettiquette differs so if any veterans have a pet peeve they wished new users knew lmk!

The Knight's Favorite

A wildcard for a medieval-themed tarot (that might or might not happen in the near future) where I had complete artistic freedom for the subject! ✨
So I went with "what if courtly love at the tournament, but make it gay?" 💜

Client: 78 Tarot

Scene at a tournament in the 1300s: A knight in full armor on his horse (only without the helmet, which a page is carrying) rides up to a richly decorated stand of spectators. Subverting the expectation that he'd ask for a "lady's favor", he instead receives said favor from another, younger man who is tying a ribbon around the knight's jousting lance. Ladies look on surprised/shocked/delighted.

I keep seeing a lot of writers and youtubers still using #AI images to illustrate #solarpunk - even Aeon in their latest article did so.

Could I ask you to help spread https://storyseedlibrary.org/ around?

If you know a #sustainability / #climate creator who might want to talk about the movement, could you share the Library with them?

All SSL #art is human-made, Creative Commons (some even for commercial use) and translated to multiple languages!

A good argument when pro-LLM accuse anti-LLM to be against technology is that anti-AI are, by definition, more tech savvy than pro-LLM.

It's like AI "artists" telling people who use oil paint, acrylic, pastels, charcoal, wax, gouache, watercolors, graphite, silver point, digital etc. they're against "artistic techniques".

I’m working on a new pottery surface design technique. New to me, at least: they have been doing this for many hundreds of years in Asia:

Carving a clay stamp, firing it, then using it o stamp the clay while it’s still a little bit soft. It reminds me of the thought process when printmaking.

I’m going to use a celadon style glaze to bring out the texture and beauty of the porcelain clay.

Star Trails over El Capitan
* Image Credit & Copyright: Michael Bolte (UCSC)

Explanation:
Towering 3,000 feet from base to summit, the famous granite face of El Capitan in Earth's Yosemite National Park just hides the planet's north celestial pole in this skyscape. Of course, the north celestial pole is at the center of all the star trails. Their short arcs reflecting the planet's daily rotation on its axis are traced in a digital stack of 36 sequential exposures. Linear trails of passing airplane navigation lights and a flare from car lights along the road below are also captured in the sequential stack. But the punctuated trail of light seen against the sheer El Capitan itself follows a climbing team on the night of November 8, 2013. The team is ascending toward the summit along The Nose, a historic rock climbing route.

Rio at Night
* Image Credit & Copyright: Babak Tafreshi (TWAN)

Explanation:
In this night skyscape setting stars trail above the western horizon over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a venue for the 2014 World Cup. Gentle arcs from the bright, colorful stars of Orion are near the center of the frame, while the starfield itself straddles planet Earth's celestial equator during the long exposure. Of course, trails from more local lights seem to create the strident paths through the scene. Air traffic smears an intense glow over an airport at the far right, while helicopters fly above the city and boats cruise near the coast. Striping the waterfront are tantalizing reflections of bright lights along Rio's central beaches, Botafogo and Flamengo. Near the horizon, the brightest fixed light is the famous Cristo statue overlooking Rio at night.
