There are a bunch of accounts on mastodon.social that are sending spammy Blockchain DMs to people around the fediverse, including on my home instance at #CoSocialCa.
We don't impose a captcha on remote DMs. It would be interesting to design a mechanism for that, though.
And yes, I used my own account as a test to move over all followers.
Ping #CoSocialTechOps if you see something out of place.
We've got a moderators volunteer meeting tomorrow (Wed 15 Feb) for people who want to get involved.

The joy of #opensource culture is a can-do vibe: Dive in and make stuff happen. Contribute where you can.
NGOs & politicos pay more attention to process. Who's in the room matters. Start too fast, and you crowd out key voices. Agenda-setting (who starts the conversation) shapes outcomes.
These are tough to reconcile. But crucial for #Fediverse to be dynamic AND inclusive.
I need to talk to more people in Montreal and Quebec. We can't have a pan-Canadian organisation that doesn't meet the needs of francophones. Any suggestions for who would be interested? #cosocialca
The #Twitter #migration creates a sense of urgency. But that rush is at odds with creating safety, a broad leadership team, real accountability structures...all the things that might actually make for a healthy community.
We've seen plenty of fast-start sites. It's hard but powerful to slow down & create conditions for lasting success & inclusion.

#CosocialCa is a project I'm part of to create a member-owned co-operative for Mastodon servers in Canada
I'm used to technological solutions to social problems, so I started out planning to file incorporation papers by EOD Friday and have a big server up by midnight.
Then everyone who needed to would sign up, and it would all work out, right?
Fortunately, cooler heads among the interested group prevailed.
The typical remediation for centralization is regulated public utilities is breaking up a monopoly into a cartel of 3-5 local monopolies.
Also not great.
We are participating here at a very rare occurrence of decentralisation.
For everyone who thinks this is important for our lives and for the world, it is incumbent on all of us to build structures now that hold this ground as the federation grows.

and we've got 38M Canadians,
then we're going to need 400 to 4000 Canadian servers.
Let's start building them.
