Sammlerstücke verkaufen sich meistens besser, wenn die Originalverpackung noch dabei ist. #justsaying 🤪

So Microsoft finally has guts to end support for Internet Explorer (on June 15, 2022).

Most people probably wonder who still uses IE. In fact a lot of corporate software still does. Even though almost all products now support mainstream browsers well you can still find occasional "IE only" admin interface or older version which is still in use. You can probably even find some "IE only" parts on some older websites.

All this happened because of unprecedented dominance #IE had on browser market many years ago. It was the most popular browser, all websites optimized for it, software relied on IE to work, there was a lot of IE specific scripting... Many other web browsers were in fact same IE, just wrapped in different skin and with extra bells. Then it started to fade away and left us (mainly tech support and admins) in the mess and countless computers vulnerable. It literally took almost decade to get rid of it after it became a failure.

This is exactly what happens with #Chrome now.

For quite some time I was suspicious about the idea of patriotism and now I pretty much despise it.

Main problem with patriotism is that by itself it offers no guidelines or safeguards. It is just about blind support of "what's ours" and "us versus them".

Your vision of your nation core values might be fine but for society in general this can change over time. It is not like Hitler always ruled Germany but at some point it became patriotic to follow him and those who resisted (or even questioned) became traitors.

Patriots were in KKK and they were in Soviet NKVD. Nazis of all breeds are patriots. All wars are fought by patriots of their respective sides. Patriots made 9/11 happen. Almost every act of terror or atrocity is seen as patriotic by someone.

This is why I would rather reject patriotism outright and stand for specific values and ideals, not abstract "serving the nation".

Smartphone innovation idea: distance sensors and collusion warning system.

Additional cameras and depth sensors are placed on top edges to detect if smartphone owner is about to walk into an obstacle while watching Instagram or texting. Then the user is alerted by screen flashing and vibrate.

iPhones and fancy Android devices could also utilize computer vision to detect danger (like road crossings) and show little popup view instructing the user which way to go to avoid collisions without having to stop looking at the screen.

I mean if they keep adding extra cameras they should do something useful with them. No one really needs fake portrait blur but I keep seeing people walking into closed doors and lamp posts.

I honestly don't know, Mattew. It puzzles me for years now. I mean there isn't much dissent even, let alone industry resistance. Some don't care, some think it won't touch them, some are all about "this too shall pass".

The peak of resistance was when they dropped PlayStation network by mistake while trying to block Telegram and teenagers joined the protest. It was good while it lasted and it had some results but it tells us something when you see kids coming out while adults (including professionals who literally depend on this sector) are sitting with dicks in their mouths.

Classic liberalism:
- Everyone should be nice to each other because all of us are in this together.
- I disagree.
- It is okay, you'll get it later.

Modern liberalism:
- Everyone has to be nice to each other because all of us are in this together.
- I disagree.
- DIE!!!

Protest: calls to resolve injustice by obeying existing laws and/or protecting accepted rights and freedoms.

Public disorder: substantial interference with the public peace as to constitute a significant threat to the health and safety of the people or a significant threat to public or private property.

Revolution: forced change of established government/regime/laws.

And no, actions of few individuals don't define the nature of whole event.

Disturbances in Belorus and Russia are protests. Most of BLM events are peaceful protests. Capitol riot was protest.

Why people insist on making things look something they aren't?

I kind of envy the US for being able to have both BLM protests and Capitol riot the way they went.

One can approve or disapprove them but they are manifestations of political process being alive. Maybe ugly ones yet still.

In many places of the world such events would be either unthinkable or end in bloodbath.
