Yep! So #Soapbox was originally a fork of #Gab which was a fork of #Mastodon. It eventually was rebuilt by forking #Pleroma and retaining the existing #Soapbox frontend, and now the #rebased backend and #Soapbox (the frontend) have been split apart, with (IIRC) the intention of #Soapbox being a multipurpose frontend that can be used with different #Fediverse software, and #rebased being a lightweight #Fediverse backend software.

You can visit fe.soapbox.pub to check out #Soapbox and try the software with your instance! It works quite well with #Mastodon and #Pleroma especially, I can't remember if it supports #Misskey at all.

A small victory: An hour after we sent a cease & desist letter to #Gab's legal team on Oct 21 regarding their failure to publish up-to-date source code in compliance with Mastodon's AGPLv3 license, they have uploaded a new version.

That is not all that we demanded in the letter, but it is nevertheless a victory in upholding the AGPLv3 license of our project, and a signal to those who doubt that we are willing to show teeth to those who ignore it.

Hi all: this account is in hybernation after #Gab functionally left the #fediverse, but wanted to wake it from slumber to note that all your work got noticed in a new ISD Report.

"There is precedent for open source communities to push back against those who seek to use their tools to promote hate speech. One such case is Mastodon, an open source social media community which has waged a long-running war of attrition against an influx of far-right users from Gab – a war which, as of December 2020, they appear to have won."

I always thought #Soapbox was a fork of #Gab 2.0 (I think they must be on like 3.0 or 4.0 by now lol), which was a fork of #Mastodon
