In Warsaw, there’s a mural that pays tribute to Kora, a legendary Polish musician and cultural icon.
Created by artist Bruno Althamer, the mural spans the side of a large building, depicting the four seasons with dynamic colors and thoughtful details. One standout feature is how Kora’s hair changes with each season, blending beautifully into the surrounding artwork.
Honoring Kora’s Legacy
Kora was admired for her trailblazing music and unmistakable voice. She passed away in 2018, but her influence remains strong. This mural is both a tribute and a reminder of her lasting contributions, inviting viewers to celebrate her enduring impact on Polish culture.
The Four Seasons Concept
Bruno Althamer’s design uses the seasons to represent life’s cycles—growth, change, and renewal. Djoels: A few months ago, I enrolled in a sort of selection round to be able to do a mural in the Basque Country. Out of the (more than) 400 applications, 2 artists were chosen: one artist from Gran Canaria and Djoels. We were given a 13-meter-high by 8-meter-wide wall to work on. For 5 days, we were given a tour, information, and the opportunity to get to know the town. It’s a harbor town surrounded by mountains, slightly bigger than Egem but with a similar mentality. Everyone knows everyone, and stories spread quickly. People take care of each other, and history is kept alive.
Gabriel, my model, a retired kind man with a characterful gaze, stood out to me the most. He spent his life at sea, months away from home catching fish. I heard thrilling stories, including those of women and children who stayed on the mainland, fearing whether their father would return safely. Now he makes miniature boats. A true artist!
Every day, I ate fish, learned how to clean and prepare fresh fish. I walked in the harbor and then in the mountains. I tasted the food they made on the boats when they were away from home for months, sometimes with only 3 ingredients. And yet, it was delicious!
For two weeks, I lived like most people here, adopting a sort of integrated intermittent fasting, taking siestas, and enjoying pintxos (local tapas). I quickly adapted to the lifestyle here, but I still miss my home, my dog, and my loved one immensely!
I think after reading this, the work speaks for itself. Now, I just need to enjoy Bilbao a little longer, and then I’ll head back home on Saturday, towards my steak with fries and the West Flemish language.

In the bustling city of Campo Grande, Brazil, an abandoned bus stop has been revived and reimagined by DUUDOOR, an innovative artist collective consisting of father and son duo, Ernando Jacques Sanches and Eduardo Fernando Savala Sanches.
The pair had been on a hiatus from art, seeking inspiration and motivation to return to creating. When some friends showed them a project where a local artist had infused new life into a bus stop with Simpsons-themed art in Porto Murtinho, they knew they had found their muse.
Excited by the idea of not only creating art but also revitalizing neglected urban spaces, DUUDOOR set to work on their own bus stop project. What emerged was not just an aesthetic transformation of an ordinary space, but a demonstration of the power of art to spark joy and community engagement.

After completion, they reflected on the gratifying experience of witnessing the impact of their art. It was a reminder of art’s power to transform and inspire. Rejuvenating forgotten corners of the city with art, DUUDOOR’s project is a testament to the transformative power of creativity. Yip Yew Chong: “While visitors are having fun posing for photos, I also hope they will get up close to the mural to study the details. This mural at 30 Temple Street is now probably the most intricate outdoor mural in Singapore! I tried making the details authentic, balanced with aestheticism and fair representation of the 1970s-80s Chinatown Street Market.
Many visitors who saw me paint it realized I didn’t plan every detail in advance. I had a broad idea in my mind, and then along the way, I googled images of say, different veggies, fish etc and decided on the spot which to add onto the trays. As for the stall selling monitor lizards, frogs, turtles and pythons, I intentionally put it the background and painted in a blurry, indicative manner.
I was afraid some visitors may feel scared by the sight. During the painting, I polled a few visitors, especially children. They all said the scene is not scary, and they can tell they are snakes and lizards, phew! While adding the blood, someone commented, “it’s enough”! I really enjoyed the painting process of having visitors on the spot contribute to the creation of the mural!”

BIO: LOONEY is a contemporary graffiti artist active in the art scene since 1995. Co-founder of the first tri-city graffiti artist collaborative (DSC). In 2008 he graduated from the Graphic Design and Painting Faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. His work predominantly consists of murals and canvas paintings. Native to street art, his technique is a combination of spray paint, stencils and brush paint. His work has been showcased in individual and collective exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Often when I’m out walking I pick up fragments of metal that have been thrown away. Sometimes fly-tipped or washed up on beaches, I patiently reassemble these pieces into monuments to the natural world around me: a habitat that is becoming increasingly fragmented. I find that my own process of reversing this fragmentation is, for me, a calming antidote to the madness of endless consumption.”

This question lies at the heart of UNICEF China’s 2008 campaign, which sheds light on the often-overlooked issue of child poverty in China. Through a series of striking photographs by Kevin Lee, Haohui Zhou, and Bin Liu, homeless children in Beijing were painted to blend seamlessly into their surroundings, making their presence almost invisible within the urban landscape.
One of the most unforgettable images shows a boy sitting on a set of stone steps, his body painted so intricately that he nearly disappears into the background. Beside him, a sign reads, “不要忽略我” (“Don’t ignore me”), with smaller text below revealing the heartbreaking reality: over 1.5 million underprivileged children in China need help. The message calls for awareness and action, urging viewers to recognize the unseen struggles these children face every day.
‘The Invisibility Of Poverty’
The campaign, led by Kevin Lee in Beijing in 2008, achieved a remarkable impact by raising $30,000 USD within just five days, providing vital assistance to children in need. Over a decade later, these visuals remain as powerful and relevant as ever, continuing to inspire empathy and action in the fight against child poverty.
In today’s fast-paced world, this campaign reminds us to slow down and truly see those who are often overlooked.
