Since 2006, OAKOAK has had streets, walls, sidewalks and roads as its playground. Originally from Saint Etienne, he sticks his drawings in each of the places he crosses in order to create a smile in the pedestrian at the bend of a street where he does not expect it.

His approach consists of diverting urban elements, playing with flaws that at first glance seem of no particular interest, such as cracks in a wall. He thus adds his own vision, his own references which often relate to the geek universe. A way of imagining the urban space in a more poetic way.

From playful interactions with crosswalks to whimsical depictions of beloved cartoon characters like Homer Simpson and Obelix, Oakoak’s work brings a fresh perspective to the streets.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of our soldiers, army, volunteers and all the Ukrainians who have united, we are holding back the enemy so that he cannot tear apart our homeland 🇺🇦

True Hope

Sasha Korban: It is the fourth year of war in my country. There are thousands of broken hearts and lost beloved ones, ruined families, injured bodies and souls. Sasha Korban Ukrainian street artist, best known for his huge murals that have captured the attention of art enthusiasts around the world.

Born in 1987 in Kirovskoye, a small town in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, Korban began his artistic journey by doing graffiti in his hometown during the early 2000s. Korban’s artistry truly blossomed when he moved to Kyiv, where he started to develop his unique style by blending elements of realism, symbolism, and abstraction.

Sasha Korban: ‘’სიყვარულით” which translates to “with love” in Georgian. In Georgia, this mural is referred to as “ბებოს” meaning “grandma”. However, this mural represents the very essence of love. The love that saturates our everyday lives, manifesting through the small acts of kindness from our loved ones or even their mere presence. Unfortunately, we often take this love for granted, assuming it to be the natural order of things, and we sometimes overlook the beauty of life’s simpler moments.

The image of a girl gently hugging her shoulders refers to a psychological method used in therapy for women who have experienced domestic violence. This simple action helps you to feel safe and regain contact with your body.

The mural has created with support of UNFPA Ukraine as a part of an information campaign “Break the Circle” in collaboration with Sky Art Foundation. Its creation is timed to the worldwide campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence”. Embrace yourself and your loved ones. And remember, that you deserve to be respected and to be happy simply because you exist.

True Hope

Sasha Korban: It is the fourth year of war in my country. There are thousands of broken hearts and lost beloved ones, ruined families, injured bodies and souls. Milana is a six-year-old girl who faced the war three years ago. But she was stronger than any war. Her little and yet brave heart conquered everything. I have dedicated my piece to Milana as I do believe she is a real symbol of the true hope.

Sculptor Huang Yong Ping

“Serpent d’océan” by Huang Yong Ping is a 130 meter aluminum sea serpent skeleton sculpture in Saint Brevin near Nantes, France. Kids walk on it when the sea is back (ebb). And when the sea is up (flow), the snake looks as if it is alive and rising out of the water.

WIKI: Serpent d’océan is a monumental sculpture made of aluminum, 130 m long in total. It represents the skeleton of an immense imaginary sea serpent, whose vertebrae undulate to end in an open mouth. The work is installed at the tip of the Nez-de-Chien, in Mindin, in the territory of the commune of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins in the French département of Loire-Atlantique, at the limit where the Loire estuary joins the Atlantic Ocean. It spreads out over the foreshore area: the serpent’s tail is located at the low tide limit, its head at the high tide limit. The sculpture is therefore covered and uncovered at each tide: at low tide it is possible to walk around it, but only the head and the top of the vertebrae stick out at high tide. It is intended to be gradually invaded by vegetation and marine fauna.

‘Radium’ by street artist SHOK-1

Mural by SHOK-1 at Rue des Envers 63 in Le Locle (Switzerland), the birthplace of Swiss watchmaking. Curated by Exomusée.

SHOK-1: This piece is about the tragic story of the Radium Girls, who suffered horribly with radiation poisoning from painting watch faces back in the 20s. I think we can still learn from it today as a narrative about the misuse of science by commerce, and of profit over people. I rendered it in the colour of radium watch lume, as if it were the dial glowing in the dark.

From Stadt Wand Kunst: With rock music in his ears, a mixture of chocolate smell and Montana Can’s varnish in his nose, and sweat on his skin, the 38-year-old and his long-time friend David Leitner spent three days feverishly at work. From day one, the rather quiet Neckarvorlandstrasse in the industrial area was transformed into a place of pilgrimage for street art enthusiasts, attracted by the ease with which NYCHOS created its own universe on a 15 meter high wall. The speed and the intoxication brought NYCHOS to graffiti and spray cans as a teenager – and have not let go since today. Canvas or facade – his answer is clear. Especially the big walls can keep up with his pace and his ideas. “I can only work as fast as my head thinks with the spray can.” Read it all here.

Blending themes of morbid corporeality with the colorful, hyper-loony aesthetic descended from comics and cartoons, Nychos has developed a unique style that performs with powerhouse effect whether on the street or in the gallery.

Raised in a traditional Viennese hunting family, death and dissection were daily business for Nychos. The proximity to animal viscera had a profound effect on him psychologically and visually – he now explores the theme of dissection in his art, pushing it to playful extremes. In Nychos’ world, SpongeBob has a skeleton, people live inside rabbits and there is always something wicked underneath. Pumped up on the visual adrenaline of comics, heavy metal and graffiti, Nychos’ work reflects the immense energy and technical focus necessary to produce work on the massive scale he has reached on the streets.

Colliding style and subject matter, Nychos slices up animals and innocent childhood characters with unflinching graphic precision. His work confronts the viewer with wicked insistence, using the shock of cartoon violence as a vehicle for exploring subtler themes of mortality and temporality. Nychos pays homage to these deathless cartoon heroes by peeling them open and giving them human substance. His artwork reflects the psychology of an art scene in which creations are sometimes swept away as soon as created. Nychos also uses subtle imagery such as plastic in an orca’s belly, weaving political commentary seamlessly into his pieces.

Using delicious color-scapes and wild, fuming lines to create his characters – whether with paintbrush or spray can – Nychos works with unmatched dynamism. His command over his tools indicates a work ethic that promises only more staggering output from this artist. Nychos’ paintings and drawings have been exhibited in galleries worldwide, including six solo exhibitions (Turino, Detroit, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, Paris) in the past two years alone. These pieces serve as unique compliments to his massive public works that give character to cities all over the world.

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) was a renowned Mexican painter known for her deeply personal and vivid self-portraits, which often explored themes of identity, pain, and the human body. Born in Coyoacán, Mexico, Kahlo’s life was marked by physical suffering, stemming from a bus accident that left her with severe injuries. As a result, she underwent numerous surgeries and spent extended periods of time bedridden. During these times, she turned to painting as a means of self-expression and coping with her pain.

The mural at La Lupita Cantina in Guadalajara, Mexico, created by artist Emmanuel Cuevas Visual, is a tribute to Frida Kahlo’s life and work. The portrait depicts Kahlo opening up to reveal her skeleton, which may be an artistic representation of her personal struggles and physical pain. By incorporating Kahlo’s skeleton, the mural alludes to her enduring strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Adele Renault: Pigeons always fly home. This one is perched up on a hill next to a 100 year old beech, visible from the old rail road and the road below. Practically in my old high school’s backyard and a 2 miles flight to my parents home. Had to be a pigeon when I first saw the wall. Thanks to the Cultural center of Stavelot for making this happen.

Adele Renault: Often when I paint a pigeon mural in the US, people say “oh look she’s painting an eagle.” And now when painting a pigeon in Belgium several people stopped by and said “oh is she painting the Belgian flag?”. Why are people so obsessed with patriotism? Hopefully it can just be art or just a pigeon to brighten someone’s day.

Although this mural is three years ‘late’, but everything is the best arrangement. Otherwise I wouldn’t have had the chance to meet some of my new best friends. After three years, sixty emails and various lockdowns the Chinese artist Satr has made her way to Mannheim – and rewarded the long waiting with a truly unique and stunning mural! “Whisper” is the title of the 35th mural of our Open Urban Art Museum and can be found at Alsenweg 64 in Mannheim. Satr: My draft concept is; A lot of things have happened in the past year, and each thing will have different answers in different positions. I drew a mountain lion. The flame is its consciousness. It ignites in front of it and surrounds it in a circle. I hope that anyone who sees this work will find a peaceful mood. Face these things calmly.

About SATR: She works and lives in Guangzhou (China) and has been doing street art since 2013. Her original spray painting atomization shape method makes her animals very dynamic, taking fog as the shape.

This is different from the realistic shaping of western oil painting, and deeply studies the permeability of graffiti spray paint, so that her works still have the charm of ink in addition to peeling off traditional Chinese painting tools.

SATR’s works can see the profound exuberance of western graffiti and the soft “XieYi “(traditional Chinese painting style in vivid expression and bold outline) brushwork of oriental painting, which runs through her works all the time. The signature of the ancient seal cutting style is the oriental imprint that she conveys to the outside world.
